The King and Queen hosted the first day of the State Visit for the Emperor and Empress of Japan at Buckingham Palace.
The King and Queen were joined by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Lord Cameron, the foreign secretary, and James Cleverly, the home secretary, at Horse Guards Parade to receive the Emperor and Empress.
The King and the Emperor inspected the Guard of Honour after exchanging warm greetings
The pair travelled along the Mall to Buckingham Palace in a procession and waved to crowds
After lunch at Buckingham Palace, the King and Emperor perused royal artefacts - including the Emperor’s university thesis.
Neither the Princess of Wales, who is still having preventative chemotherapy, nor the Princess Royal, who is recovering from a concussion after an accident involving her horse, were able to attend the State Visit.
A State Banquet was held in the Buckingham Palace Ballroom, with the Emperor and Empress as guests of honour King Charles and Emperor Naruhito made speeches and toasts at the banquet before the guests dined.

Very nice vist. The Royal couple of Japan are so gracious and respectful. I'm sure this visit brightened up the king day and they will be good friends forever. Love the hats and fashion choices. I hope they enjoyed there trip and will have fond memories and the Emperor and empress will be good friends with William when his time comes.

According to the royal ranks, the Emperor and Empress are the higher than the King and Queen, Charles and Camilla should bow to the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and why did they walk side by side? The King and Queen should go to the back.

I have a deep respect for the Japanese and their culture. But is it really appropriate for the Japanese Emperor to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier given that .... the Japanese may have actually been the onese to kill the unknown soldier? (in case anyone doesn't know their history - Japan fought and sucessfully took out the British from the Pacific islands). . Again - I have been to Japan and I nothing bu respect for the Japanese people.
