King Alfreds Way - The Gravel Movie

Спорт

The King Alfred's Way is a 350km circular off-road trail ideal for a gravel bike. It starts and ends in the town of Winchester. You’ll feel like you’ve escaped the modern day world as the route picks it's way though some truly wonderful scenic trails. Although you'll never be too far from help if you ever need it.
Inspired by king Alfred the Great, of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex. The trail starts and ends at King Alfred’s statue in Winchester, where he is buried.
Using parts of the Ridgeway and South Downs Way, the trail is ideal for gravel bikes and can be ridden over a few days as a bikepacking trip. It also connects with the Thames Path and the North Downs Way riders’ route, so you can combine multiple routes into a longer escape.
King Alfred’s Way forms a crucial part of Cycling UK’s goal to create a network of long-distance off-road routes across the length and breadth of Great Britain, through fascinating places and inspiring landscapes.

    Was June when I made this trip. Been raining for weeks but we booked the stops. Kept raining. Mud and puddles and wet chalk and huge ruts and ridges. Accompanied a runner for a time when he found ridgeway too slippery and deep to run. Quite memorable.

    This is great. Thankyou. We just did the Salisbury to Reading this weekend. The Rain hit us all day 1 but sun day 2 and the beautiful Ridgeway. For me I say hardtail MTB all the way unless its dry dry dry. Even then the ruts make it v tricky for Gravel bikes. I say MTB unless you're trying to break a record or have the power like these guys

  • @wiggle

    @wiggle

    Thanks! It's an epic route isn't it. Lucky we had all that sun...would have been mega savage in the wet! Almost like you need a hardtail for 50% and a gravel setup for the other 50%... nothing will make those ruts any easier tho 😆
