This seemed to be a good concept in the 1940s when they did this with busses. I hope they worked out the kinks with the system I do think flywheels are a good application to store energy and this should be looked into more.

So that's just a stockish rear end limited slip differential with the flywheel attached to where the drive shaft would normally go, the engine/motor to spin the flywheel up on one hub where a wheel would normally go and the drive line in the rear presumably with another differential is attached where the other wheel would normally go?

That kinetic drive is an interesting concept, but also silly. For a burnout car it will probably do great for a minute or two. But as a drag car... It'll be a nightmare to get it to launch right, apply brake to go and it burns out, gently apply and you burn up the brake pads and rotor, modulate with a abs or similar system you'd have whiplash before the 1/8th. Beyond that initial power boost at launch, I see no benefits to this technology (pretty much reinvented the tractor just missing the hand clutch). Most modern electric motors will burn the tires off without this overly complicated system as will a regular gas engine. Most racing now days is not a power issue but a traction issue, atleast for launch. The only thing that might make this concept worthwhile would be if it is super efficient, but the maintenance and repair would likely wash out any savings. They might prove me wrong, but I doubt it without a thorough redesign.
