"Kimia"

“Of the beauty? Or the svelte body you don’t have? Tell me, what are you so proud of?” That was a message I saw on her cellphone, which was probably sent by a prank caller.
I thought to myself that maybe it’s because of all these words that Kimia has grown to be extremely kind and adaptable. She lives in a world created for her by others where she has no right to quarrel or make a choice; maybe these are the words that have driven her to say she doesn’t want to get married and prefers to be alone; because her mother tells her that she looks beautiful and others mostly recall her as a gracious person. She has the feeling that she’s got no other feature to find a place of her own in other people’s hearts with but graciousness.
As I was trying to act as if I hadn’t seen that message, Kimia got back to the table. I asked her to describe the daughter she never had and she curiously replied, “My daughter? Oh, she’s proud and beautiful. She’s a ballerina.”
“There’s a little girl living in Kimia,” I repeat to myself, “who is tense at times and loves to dance; who’s also proud when she finds the right time.” Why? All because she has every right to be proud.
