    Kim was THE player I hate when I was a kid and watching those games, just because he's so good and we might lose. Now I just appreciate and miss his legendary penhold skills. Hope the penhold don't get obsolete.

    It was the best time also because various playing styles could compete on the international stage - two-wing loopers, close-to-table hitter, JPen attacker, chopper, pips etc. These days only close-to-table hitter such as Harimoto could raise to the top.

    Honestly I don't find it entertaining it seems like they can't finish the point so easly even thought they have huge adventage opponent just keep lobing and you can't do anything about that it's annoying to watch. I like modern tt better because it's more dynamic and you don't have to watch boring rallies like those above.

    +Top 8 TT Thank you for another precious tribute. This one is simply unbelievable and, as always, it's an Act of Love. Since I've recently discovered your channel, I've seen only fabulous and exciting compilations from you, period. Your good taste and discernment are top tier and I can't express how I am appreciative of your lovely and generous "Artistic Service" to all of us, TT lovers. This one about Kim Taek Soo surely deserves a Part 2; actually many of your tributes indeed deserve it, as I'm sure you got much more material than what was shown on their final edition. So, please, don't hesitate to make them longer, as there's no time wasted when it comes to such Quality and Beauty. One suggestion: you might want to add their opponents' names (or events/dates) to the Description. It's always nice to help us to situate the context of those game's history. Anyway, thank you very MAGIC! May Life bless you forever!

    Kim Taek Soo's main achievements 1989 Euro-Asian Tournament Champion (He was then 19 year old) 1989 Dortmund WTTC - He reached Quarter Final. He beat Chen Longchan by 3-0 at the 3rd round. 1990 Beijing Asian Game - he won Men's Team Gold Medal. - In the Final he beat all 3 North Korean players such as Kim Songhui, Lee Gunsang, and Choi Kyungsub. So S. Korea beat Norh by 5 - 4. It is the best and most unforgetable match in my life. Then Koreans called the victory as a diamond medal. - The North team defeated China composed of Chen Longchan and Ma Wenge by 5 - 1 in the semi final. Another dark age for Chinese team. 1991 Chiba WTTC - he reached semi final. 1992 Barcelona Olympic - he reached semi final 1995 Tienjin WTTC - He was controvertially disqualified after beating Wang Tao by 3 - 0 at Quarter final. 1998 Bangkok Asian Game - he won Men's single Gold Medal by beating both Kong Linghui and Liu Gualiang.

    Kim Taek-soo was not as detailed as Yoo Nam-kyu and Ahn Jae-hyung in terms of speed-saving plays, especially forward or target plays. It seems that the brain fight was also weak. Instead, he had a strong forehand top spin from the middle class like European shakehand players, and the backhand was also very high among penholder players. It wasn't a backhand equivalent to a shake hand, but the technical level of backhand blocks and backhand smashing was very high, and sometimes it showed a performance that didn't lag behind in a backhand fight with a shakehand player. However, due to the nature of the single-sided pen holder, there was a limitation that it was difficult to make a mid- to continuous fore-back hand top-spin like a shakehand player, and he overcame it with his footwork. As a result, it is thought that he had a footwork close to perfect in the history of table tennis. The classical style of overpowering opponents with heavy top spin from middle location to single-sided pen holders by saving footwork was enough to shock viewers. However, he didn't have any reason to play ping-pong with a pen holder, but I think it's a disappointing case of holding a pen holder. If he played table tennis with his shake hands, I'm sure he would have won the top of the Olympics or world championships with a higher achievement than Yoo Seung Min Yu Nam-kyu. In table tennis, Asian Games gold medals are as difficult as Olympic gold medals, but Asian Games gold medals are too bad for his level of play. Kim Taek-soo, the King of no-crown

    But even Europeans had excellent close to the table game in the 90's.Waldner and Gatien played very close to the table.KTS wasn't good enough in the serve/receive game. And I don't think his footwork was transferable to the shakehand style cause he wasn't that tall.The mid distance players of the 90's where exceptional serve receivers Primorac and Persson come to mind.

    Which is quite exhausting, and makes a player vulnerable to injuries. Also, aging is their main opponent since at old age, one can't be as quick and agile than when they're younger. Idk about He Zhi Wen, he's old, has bad footwork, but he kicks ass lol. Again it's only my observation, I could be wrong. :D

  • @uchihadayne6506

    @uchihadayne6506

    5 жыл бұрын

    Maultasche123 45 it is mostly the equipment change. The backhand flick wouldn’t be possible with a 38mm ball because spin was much more of a factor before. Now you can basically loop or flip anything. That ball was also traveling a lot faster, I’m not sure you could tell in these videos but you just had to react so much faster with that small ball.

  • @linus1973

    @linus1973

    2 жыл бұрын

    We really have to admire the players' reaction back then, the ball was much faster. I think the opening backhand flip was started by Zhang Jike and Wang Hao, back in 2011 during the 40mm celluloid ball era. As a result, the players are no longer as forehand dominant as before. Because once you do the backhand flip, you would naturally move more to the centre of the table, and use more backhand in the subsequent shots. The rallies in this video were very interesting as the players were trying to play more forehand, which resulted in more away from table rallies. Backhand play by nature is much closer to table, as it is based more on speed, and less on power or spin. In terms of mechanics, the forehand can produce a stronger projectile and a wider range of angles, which results in both parties moving back.

    One thing to note the players back then had much better footwork than the current generation, they were able to cover very wide ranges while returning with high quality
