I want to hug her for being so real and open. It's one of my favorite movies as well, even more than Vertigo, although I can't deny it's a good movie and I love Hitchcock but Bell Book and Candle has a sentimental value for me. She's so perfect in that role, with her soft coldness hiding a warm heart.

Beyond her looks (and, at 80 something, whatever procedures she may have had done look a helluva lot better than many younger actors who have gone under the scalpel) and any "loopiness" she may have displayed because of the reason she explains here, the Academy's treatment of Kim Novak on that telecast was shameful. She should have been given a grand entrance and build up, with, at the very least, a few seconds' worth of footage from Picnic, Vertigo, BB&C, etc., to introduce her. It was painfully clear that many of the upstarts in the audience had no idea who she was, when she should have been given a standing ovation (instead, they stood for every single crappy nominated song).

I wholeheartedly agree. Kim Novak's body of work includes some of the most iconic films of the 50s, including Hitchcock's Vertigo [ just voted number one in the Sight And Sound film critic's poll as best film above Welles' Citizen Kane ]; Logan's Picnic; Chayefsky's Middle Of The Night and Pal Joey with Sinatra and Hayworth. The Academy is now dismissive of the actors and actresses who were the foundation of the Industry, i.e. Bacall, whose career achievement Oscar was awarded in a separate ceremony before her death; Eli Wallach, who received the same award in a pre-Oscar ceremony, et al. When Olivier, O'Toole, Redford, Loren, Stewart, Grant, and Marx received their career Oscars, it was the highlight of the presentations.

I agree, Novak was in some famous or iconic films, but respectfully disagree that those films became iconic due to her being in them. Vertigo would've been so much better with almost any other actress in the role…but I'm sure we'll have to agree to disagree on that.

DDumbrille Yes, we sure will have to do that. Cannot imagine anyone else in that difficult role. She was supposed to play 'out of this world a little', no one did that better than her. Who would you think could have played that role? Just curious.

***** "Who do you think could have played that role?" That's funny. Really. As I said, almost anyone could've done it better than Novak, although I must admit she wasn't too bad in Bell, Book and Candle.

The press and the public were unkind about Novak's appearance. Yet I do wish she could quietly go somewhere and get some corrective plastic surgery. That face is not her own.. not any more she still sounds like the same sweet woman inside

I am so proud of her for her honesty. Yes, her appearance was so different than I remembered her, but I was more thrown by her seemingly being "out of it." And she explained that--and is totally different and endearing in this video. We all learned valuable lessons from this lady; and even she learned a lesson, too! I hope she gets another shot at showing them how impressive she is!

I applaud Kim for turning this situation around like this and calling these smack'd azzzholes out in the name of humor. It hasn't changed since we where all kids growing up in school, if you want the bullying to stop, you need to stand up to the biggest bully and call him out. Not with guns either kids...but with words and wit.

I'm so mad and angry that people would bully this legendary icon Hollywood gem, she was part of the most glamorous time in Hollywood, The golden era of Hollywood. This women is a Hollywood national treasure. Those people who bullied her are despicable people. They are anonymous, keyboard gangtas that very insecure and hide behide there phones, that are not happy themselves so they project that towards others...they are basically busted, basic looking folks who are insecure trolls. The anonymous pussies are the most unattractive and hideous people. Kim Novak is a legend and I love her she is a great actress and great lady and still beautiful to me damn it.
