I think he knew. If you notice, he was writing when he saw something and looked up at her while she was looking away. He must have seen her name, looked at her to confirm, then acted like nothing happened. It was perfect too, because she never noticed him starting at her.

plus he repeated her full name. her band name. and then gave a nice compliment to her band. most store clerks won't do that, they just take the payment and say thank you. he's a fan but not going to embarrass her with the typical fawning some fans do. kim said in an interview herself before that she doesn't go for overly fanboy gushing

You only have to look at 0:07 to see that he knows fine well who she is. He just didn't recognise her until he saw the name on the card because she very unassuming in her dress and manner, and if she had paid in cash he would never have known it was her.

Guy def knew it was her he nervously laughs every few secs. He dosen't recognize her til' he reads the check then he starts making Breeders questions.
