Oh yes, 1981. I was 13 and just figuring out the girl next door was actually the best friend I had, ever had, or ever will have. I still remember my dads little talk. I thought it was going to be the birds and bees talk. He looked at me all serious and said "Son don't screw this up cause she's the best you'll ever get" There was never anybody else. Four kids and 11 grandchildren later and life is good. God Bless to you all.

After the 80s, Gen X took over the music. It got real sad and depressing. Then, auto-tune, technopop, mumble rap and 9/11 introduced the post-American Century to the world. It just gets uglier and more dystopian every year.

I definitely miss the 80’s! The best music and fun times! I was 11 when this came out and I was watching shows like Solid Gold, American Bandstand, and MTV!

Growing up in the 70's and 80's was a glorious phenomenon. Those were our years and I greatly miss them. Everything was simply magical!

This song catches the summer of 1981 like nothing else. Being a little kid in the late 1970's/early 80's was just simply magical. The music from 1977-1981 had a lot to do with it. What I'd do to have a one-way ticket in a time machine to that time period and just stay there.

I heard this on my then Walkman on an English train which would take me to York. I was raining, I was shy and frightened as I was much younger than the others. Plus the first time I left my family. The gentle magic in this song did its wonders. I felt brothe energised and relaxed. 30 years on, I still listen to it in awe.

This really takes me back. I've been playing all the oldies tonight. I'm not felling well but this is helping me and lifting my spirits, music is like that. Have a good evening everyone.

The combination of the catchy, provocative lyrics, Carnes' sultry voice belting out the long notes, and a not-so-subtle mix of 80s synth for good measure! This song was a masterpiece, a song that to me defines the 80s (like Toto's Africa, or A-ha's Take On Me.) We're approaching 40 years since this song came out, and it's a classic, one of the best! We may not be getting any younger but we had great songs in our youth!

I love this extended version the best because the other version is too short! Can't get enough of the song

As an 80s teen, this played so many times on the radio. Memories come flooding in. Notably of an ice rink, skating with my brother, I must have been 7.... So many wrong turns. Life can be terribly hard. I was never prepared. Parents never tell you the truth. They just bring you into the world. Miss the 80s and mum though....

Just compare this classic to any song here in 2020, 80s songs were more like timeless anthems with a irresistible beat interrupted by a bass line and synthesizers to create atmosphere, lyrically poetic with a mystical feel that stands the test of time.

An old movie came on TV with Bette Davis the other day. Mom came in the living room and started singing this. I was born a couple years after this came out. Mom asked if I knew this song. Of course!

The only songs from any given past decade that we remember now are the good ones like this. There was a *lot* of dross produced in the 80s, just like any other decade. Despite some really good exceptions, though, and for my money, the 80s wasn't a good decade for music overall. Music became gutless and pretentious. The typical 80s band relied on members in glammed up outfits, ludicrous hairstyles and make-up, who were devoid of any skill in singing or playing their instruments, pressing buttons on synthesizers and drum machines now and then.
