gon literally does have empathy and expresses it on many occasions throughout the entire story. idk why some people in this fandom are obsessed with the idea of him being a psychopath, when that's 100% factually incorrect and non-canon.

@@MonAhgasInsomniAroELF I mean, it's still strange considering he starts as a 12 year old and by the time the anime ends he should be around 14. That's still a kid don't take me wrong, but a 12yo kid is already in the early years of the latest stage of brain development which means that, sure, they still have a lot to learn, but they already have a good grasp of the world and reality, concepts like death, danger or the fact that every person has their own perspective (and aren't npcs) are things that kids at that age are fully aware of, and typically they already are developing abstract thinking and deductive reasoning at a very fast pace. All of which makes Gons particular form of empathy and selfishness (and by extension his skewed morality) very strange, and a huge reason of why his characterization is so interesting.

The polar opposite contrast in Gon and Killua's parenting style is illustrated here. Gon's dad leaves Gon free to find his own way in life while Killua's parents smother him to the point of feeling trapped.

they're showing that they BOTH have shitty parenting styles lmao, it's not one good and the other bad. they're on opposite ends of the spectrum like you said, but they're both undeniably bad! one abandoned his kid and wouldn't have cared if he never saw him again, the others were overbearing and controlling to the point of smothering.

I'm Japanese and I like the part he is singing the OP. at the beginning He sings very well, but towards the end, it's amusing how he can no longer hit the high notes. The way he sings is absolutely adorable.

Love Gon's reaction when Killua's talking about collecting the bounty for his family - you can see him in the background laughing with delight. His friend is happy, so he is happy. I think you can see already that whatever else he may be, Gon is not indifferent to his friends. He went back into danger to save Leorio from Hisoka. He threw himself off the boat without thinking twice to rescue that sailor who'd been knocked overboard. He does seem to have a pretty casual attitude to the death of the contestants around him, but then, so do Leorio and Kurapika (Killua too, of course). Kurapika is intent on murder (a revenge killing of a group of criminals, but murder nevertheless). And all these people have gone into the exam eyes wide open, prepared to risk death, so it's not like seeing some innocent civilian murdered on the street. So I don't know why people hone in particularly on Gon. So far, he's been the most respectful of life of any of them!

I mean i can totally see why people pick specifically in Gon. For what we know until this point Gon only lived in a isolated Island. Kurapika, Leorio and Killua all had seen death before, but Gon it doesn't said if he ever saw a human being being murder or dying, so it's a little reasonable that people would find strange

exactly!! the universe of hunters just means you gotta be kinda "whatever" about death, it doesn't necessarily mean someone's a bad person. that is the reality of that life path. it's kind of like paramedics. they see so many awful things, that they kind of become apathetic to seeing horrific deaths, if they didn't they'd lose their minds considering they're surrounded by it. they can't let every single horrible/sad thing get to them or else they can't do their job. i'd imagine being a hunter is pretty similar to that. gon _IS_ empathetic and kind, especially to his friends, but sometimes also to strangers, and even villains. gon has his flaws because he's a wonderfully written character, but he's NOT a bad person, and he's not a psychopath incapable of empathy. this fandom gets so weird about him sometimes.

@@alfasvirtuosos1981 sometimes people who live in nature like gon grew up around have that kind of blase attitude. i knew people irl who were a little socially isolated, grew up on a ranch that was thousands of acres. they hunted deer & elk, butchered cows, had to put down horses at times. they experienced a lot of death around them, but it was just a part of life. they always handled things like that a lot easier than most city kids i knew, who would cry if they saw a calf get roped at a rodeo 🙄 meanwhile my ranch friends participated in branding and neutering calves lmao. long story short, i see gon kind of like those kids. sometimes, living in nature a little socially isolated can "harden" you to things like death. doesn't make you unempathetic necessarily, just realistic. i do think gon suffers from the social aspect of that isolation though, growing up without a friend until meeting killua, kurapika, and leorio. it's why he has some issues with being selfish at times.

Yeah, despite Killua being raised by assassins, having no issue with murdering people without second thought and having the whole cool and kinda evil aesthetic... He's still somehow less edgy than Kurapika, the genuinely nice guy who wants to honor his family and is all about morals.

Is so nice that Lindsay pick up on that Gon behavior that honestly he doesn't care that much about people that don't mean anything to him like streangers

hwat you talked about until 0:50 is what togashi discovered a tthe beginning of the show about Gon. Togashi said thqat Gon should have been the child everyone wants. But he discovered that gon is different than how he immagined, and that his morality is a bit different. That's waht a great author does, creates a character and let him grow by himslef and not force him to do stuff that maybe are out of character

Killua is nothing like Sasuke personality wise. He is way more layered character.

Gon is like the failed main character, start like a cliché MC, but at some point he failed to learn from his mistake, he failed his expected devellopment but in parallele, Kirua is not expected to be the MC, he's only following Gon for the most part, but somehow, he's the one who receive the successfull devellopment, he's the one who overpass his flaw and become a better person, he have the expected devellopment of an MC and since Goon fell into darkness, Kirua stole the light, his whole relation with Gon is so amazing, that alone put them ahead

If anything, Sasuke was inspired by both Kurapika and Killua. Hunter x Hunter is older than Naruto.

It's time for Hisoka, the king of sus. Also, Killua thinking he can kill Netero lol. Oh, you silly child

Netero saw the most interesting quality of a hunter in Gon which is to have fun like Ging and Pariston that's why he tells the pilot to take a detour and changes some rules for the next exam which is the restriction of killing their opponents just to see how the participants face it specially,Gon
