@@DanTheMan3 A good cover isn't a replacement, but a reinvention. This is a good cover. IMO, they're both great. If I were to see one live, though, it would be this one (but only because I saw Dio live at least 10 times)

I love how campy and goofy this video is. They really leaned into the cliche "heroic knight" folklore concept and put out a fun, well done song. 10/10 🤘

The best part is that the original Dio video is not only just as cheesy, but also plotless and even cheaper. Like it had 1K budget, it didn't have any final fight, and most of the budget spent for booze and cokes.

Okay don't get me wrong, Jesse Leach is a great singer too and I know that he was the original lead singer of Killswitch Engage. But there's just something about Howard that made the band sound unique and different from most typical rock bands and he's the reason I've recently got into this band in the first. The man is a beast with those powerful vocals and the fact that he did a cover of a Dio song of all things and absolutely nailed it proves it.

Yeah, plus, Jesse is a phenomenal vocalist as well, he's just a different style. Where Howard sings operatically and screams like a panther, Jesse sings with a rock voice and roars like a lion. Both are fantastic for this band and Howard's new band, Light the Torch, goes along with KSE so well.

i appreciate that killswitch kept vivian campbell's guitar solo exactly how it was on the original because it is perfection. a thousand listens and it still gives me goosebumps. love both versions and i love how much fun they clearly had making the video.

They didn't keep the solo the same at all, but they made callbacks to it. The opening lick is probably the most recognizable callback, but you can hear the two solos go in completely different directions after that lick.

Last summer me and my friend met Howard (very very quickly) I wouldn’t even really call it meeting him. But after his gig with Light The Torch, We ran outside to the tour bus to see if we could say hello, and sure enough there was Howard. We said a couple quick words and said it was an amazing show! And he acknowledged us and said thanks for coming out to the show! Then he jumped on his bus, and took off. It probably didn’t mean anything to him, but to us it meant the world. Being life long fans of his work, it was a very special moment. He’s the best!

Possibly the greatest cover of ANY SONG, EVER.

A timeless cover of a timeless classic. One of the best covers ever produced.

Wow, agreed. The entire BlacK Sabbath Heaven & Hell album/CD is a tour de force of top notch heavy rock, don't avoid it or thumb your nose at it just cuz its 'old'. And Dio's 'The Last in Line' is a crazy superior song and performance than Diver, trust me (us if the OP agrees!). That's not "The Guy". That's just a "hooded evil spirit". It lacks the pecks and the chains and the smiley-teethy-face. It's probably just fantasy-related.

Glad they did their own thing with this. Let Dio have his song, show him tribute by giving him your version of it. How it should be done for all covers / tributes in my opinion. 10/10

I can never stop watching this video. I love comedy of it along with the bad ass music and vocals!!!

This song has definitely stood the test of time holy shit. I think I found more to appreciate 10yrs later. Legendary cover forever. 14yrs later. God damn I’m getting old soon

I was hoping to hear this yesterday at the concert but even though they didn’t do this song I absolutely loved the show! This man is fucking amazing live

The best part about this cover is that it's a perfect sidegrade to the original. It's not strictly better or worse, and transitions this to metal from rock while still keeping the feel of the original

@FlyfromtheJar right, Dio is the one that made the Devil's Horns \m/ popular. It was his aunt or mom who used it to dispel evil etc, a folk belief. If anything, Dio is one of the founders of metal

This cover and the ending alone shows that Howard is one of the best vocalists, ever! 🤘🏻I’ve been listening to this and “The End of Heartache” nonstop the last month!

I love how this video is almost the same as dio's version it even has the same characters like the bladesmith and black hood. A perfect homage.

I love Killswitch. they got me back into metal again.

I have no words to express how gorgeous this cover! The best performance ever!

Not usually a fan of covers but this is AWESOME! Singer has a great voice!
