Killing algae with hydrogen peroxide

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Simple video video showing how I used hydrogen peroxide to kill algae on some of my live rock. Keep in mind that with this method I killed everything on the live rock to reset it. I had an explosive growth of red hair algae that I used the peroxide on. This method will kill red hair algae, green hair algae, and bubble algae. Im sure it works on many others but those are the three that I have personally used this on. It will also kill a lot of different pests. In the video you can see how it killed large fire worms. Do your research before using hydrogen peroxide with your aquarium. It can have many practical uses within the hobby.
Below is an affiliate link for the exact peroxide that I used in the video.

Been using H2O2 for several years with decent results. Never thought about aquarium tubing. Thanks.

I think algae survives with nutrients and type of lighting.... I believe you can control both of these.... For nutrient export is I use floss INSIDE THE TANK.. maybe you can try this and see if this make a difference...

Hello and thanks for the suggestions. I'll check that video out. I do not currently have an algae problem. I agree with you 100 percent. Algae is nutrient driven and as long as you keep the nutrients where they are suppose to be you shouldn't have any seriouse issues with algea.

By Soaking it for so long, you've rendered the live rock into the same category as the white dead rock. Years of coraline, sponge etc growths have been nullified. Other more natural methods such as sea urchins or flux RX would have been much better.

Yes I would usually agree but I wanted to reset the rock for this particuliar project. Usually I would agree and would want to preserve as much beneficial bacteria on the rock as possible. Side note: there were 3 red mushrooms on the rock that I missed and they survived surprisingly.
