@@gabriellinney It's the international Cannes director contender(Drive My Car, Triangle Of Sadness,Parasite) and it has a 99 on metacritic,I think it's getting nominated

TZOI and Past Lives can both be big contenders I think

The overdue first win vs second win could technically also apply to someone like Jack Nicholson. Jack was considered wildly overdue when he won his first for ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (it was his 5th nomination in a span of 6 years), and that movie won Best Picture. Jack's 2nd win was for another Best Picture winner (TERMS OF ENDEARMENT) (he also later won a 3rd for AS GOOD AS IT GETS).

Joker also owns a lot of its success to the backlash against mainstream media

Lily Gladstone's only competition is Color purple girls and that film looks weak based in the trailer

I still think Brooks and Henson are legit competition. The movie looked pretty good, the cinematography was the only let down for me

May December will now be netflix's big contenders since apparently maestro is not great

After TAR , its gonna be hard for any Maestro focused film to really wow critics.

Zone of Interest is too artsy to be a big contender

I never quite understood all the excitement over A24. They are a good studio but nothing special. I would say that Searchlight is more deserving of praise.

The Reader(2008) over performed with the academy. The movie portrays 1) very graphic underage relationship 2) arguably tries to paint a camp guard in a sympathetic light now that was a different era(weinstein era who probably had huge sway over noms) but that movie was messy in concept and executipn.
