Killer whales attack yacht off the coast of Morocco

A vengeful killer whale called Gladis is leading gangs of orcas into battle with yachts around Gibraltar and has already sunk three boats in Europe.
It may read like something out of Moby Dick, but in this case the truth is stranger than Herman Melville’s fictional tale of the white whale.
Researchers believe that a female orca called White Gladis has been hell-bent on revenge after being traumatised by a collision with a boat or being trapped in illegal fishing nets.
Gladis’s attacks are now being copied by the rest of the killer whale population, which have learnt how to ram vessels from their ringleader.

If only this was true. Then the planet might stand a chance. Though it could also easily make other humans even more evil. But if the Orcas and all wild life were actually working this hard to teach humans a lesson and we eventually learned a lot more to take note of them, then the planet might have a chance. But that’s like asking for world peace. Never gonna happen no matter how optimistic we could all hope for. Humans are WAY too selfish and messed up to the point of making us the most ignorant species on the planet especially considering how smart our brains should be. We should all do what we can to help them but we also need to learn what is realistically happening with them if we want them to survive. Videos like this go completely against the reality of what’s happening and instead makes people believe the BS so they can excuse themselves for their ignorance. If Orcas go then it would be obvious there would be very little time left for this planet. They’ve been teaching us the circle of life for a very long time now and it’s one of the few things we’ve gotten right. Yet very few care enough, once we become adults, to ever do much or anything about it and instead many more humans ignorantly do what’s bad for nature instead like in this video and so so much more.

Apparently they're only attacking boats under sail with or without engine running, going between 5-8 knots, 2-8km from the coast. Not sure if they have attacked a catamaran yet which might be why we were left alone. Also they seem to go for black anti fouling paint more. I don't think there is any evidence suggesting it's about fishing as they have not attacked fishing vessels. Also it's really the coast of Spain, although Morocco is very close across the straights of Gibraltar.

At this time of year orcas are infesting tha waters near the straight of Giblartar, which links the Atantic Ocean and the enclosed Mediterranean sea. The reason is that migrating tuna fish are coming from the southern hemisphere to the warm waters of the Mediterranean sea. Orcas have a festive season as they feed on tuna fish.

I've been diving with Orcas off the coast of Norway (not seeking them out in any way, they approached me, I was just doing my own scuba thing). The adults were all very gentle, but the teens did leave me with some bruises. It was scary when it happened, of course, but I think it was basically playfulness. And I lived just fine to tell about it. What's going on in the Med now I can't explain at all. Seems to me to be a bit above playfulness, in my very humble opinion. I just know we have a different stock of Orcas here up North, possibly with a different - I dunno - upbringing or whatever, and even though they have not been spared from human activitity either, we seem to coexist. Probably not a very scientific explanation.

I believe that is not the issue. They see the boats as competition for food. Often prey will take shelter on or near boats when being chased or hunted by orcas. Some boat owners will actively try to defend their prey when they are hunting. So they have adapted and devised a way to try and make their hunts more successful by eliminating boats from their hunting grounds.
