How the fuck can you forget Batman: Gotham Nights #7? The story where you see flashbacks of a young Batman facing Killer Moth in his prime. Every trick that Killer Moth used to escape or best Batman during every fight only influenced Batman more. Moth became his inspiration. Years later, Batman runs into him again trying to flee. Eventually Moth is caught, but he shows respect to his foe. He even says (to the now-older Moth which he caught, trying to pull of one last crime before retirement) that Killer Moth's costume is awesome.

The costume's awesome." Killer Moth has also been having a pretty big role recently in *"The Joker: The Man who Stopped Laughing"* , we're 11 issues in and he makes a pretty funny duo with the Joker.

Killer Moth was apparently created as a vigilante counterpart to Batman a vigilante who helps villains instead of the cops which would be used multiple times in the future with characters like Wraith or Prometheus. I love Killer Moth's character design so much, It's such a cool outfit and I hate when they try to make him dorky to the point where it's impossible to take him seriously or try to "modernise" him in a way that takes away from his character. He's perfectly capable, in his first appearance he nearly bested Batman & Robin and then proceeded to seemingly die after nearly being caught, but he's also this dorky fan of Batman in a bright purple costume that drives a car with his face on it.

Not exactly a 100% my idea but I want Killer Moth to get The Spot treatment from ATSV. Having him start off as the laughable villain that no one takes seriously and slowly transform into the dread of Gotham could be an awesome thing to experience as an audience. One idea that is mine though is that in this scenario, as Killer Moth becomes more deadly, he would eventually become/adopt the persona of Prometheus. The transformation of "the moth to the flame" to the bringer of fire itself could be a cool element that would add to his transition into the more sinister and powerful.

After the Joker War, Bats decided he needed all the help he could get, enlisting Harley Quinn, Ghostmaker, Clownhunter, etc.. You’d think he’d offer Killer Moth a chance at something different, see if he’s good at being good, even if it wouldn’t last. Speaking of KM, I think my first exposure to him was also Lego Batman or 2004’s The Batman TV show. Remember that?

@@camerondodge2070 - Oof, sorry I'm one month late to answer your question, but I wasn't notified for some reason! I'd say give it a shot if you enjoyed the 2021/2022 "The Joker" miniseries (15 issues long by James Tynion IV), since *The Man who Stopped Laughing* is a direct sequel. If you're intrigued by the whole "3 Jokers" subplot, then it's the kind of title that you'll enjoy, and since it bled out into the main *"Batman"* title it's one of those miniseries that are important if you're a completionist. Although, if we're talking pure quality, and if we don't care about official main DC canon, there is a _DC Black Label_ Joker-oriented title that was ,IMHO, much better and published at the same time called *Batman & the Joker: Deadly Duo* (7 issues long by Marc Silvestri).

YOOOOO KILLER MOTH SQUAD LETS FREAKING GOOOOOOO in all seriousness, I think Killer Moth is the best version of the "Batman but eeEEEeevil" gimmick that has been done to death (Hush, Prometheus, Wrath, etc.) The concept of him being "the guardian of Gotham's criminal world" is pretty underexplored and really cool in a Moriarty kinda way. His mere existence pathologizes the villains of Gotham in a way that makes them worthy of *needing* a protector, even if he's totally inept at his job.

My introduction to the character was in The Batman 2003 where he got introduced as one of the guys Penguin recruited to his squad of villains to pull off a heist (though it's openly established that the others don't take him seriously). During the heist, Killer Moth gets exposed to chemicals that mutate him into a giant moth creature which ironically makes him the most powerful villain in the group (which is saying something as Killer Croc was in the group as well). The episode ended with them all getting arrested and (from what I remember) this was his one and only appearance in the entire series. 😥

I like the idea of Killer Moth being motivated by the fact everyone treats him as a loser. I think he'd be perfect for Matt Reeves' Batman sequel, as he could be shown to be treated as a joke, but goes much further and potentially get abilities like controlling bugs or something, and gets to the point where he becomes a threat, all because nobody respected him and that's all he wanted in life. To be remembered.

Okay, so Killer Moth technically never did turn back into a human. At the end of Underworld Unleashed, all of Neron's deals were supposed to be reversed as he was defeated, but for some reason they left Killer Moth as Charaxes. Eventually he was killed, along with many others, by Superboy Prime in Infinite Crisis. He was impersonated by Booster Gold for a bit, but only came back due to the New 52, where he got it real rough. At one point the Atom shrank down, went into Killer Moth's head, and grew inside his head just to torture the dude. It doesn't go away either, because he later shouts at Red Robin about the Atom and not wanting to be tortured again. It's awful. Edit: Misremembered my timeline, the torture happened pre-New 52 during Cry For Justice. I still hate that series.

@@ulyssesveracruz8343 Okay, so I misremembered my issues, the torture was pre-New 52. It was in Cry For Justice, Prometheus had hired Killer Moth to kidnap someone close to one of Atom's allies, so both Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi went after Moth. Palmer then did the shrink and grow torture to get info about Prometheus out of Killer Moth.

I remember post-crisis there was an issue of Detective Comics (I think 566) where Batman briefs Jason Todd on all of the biggest threats in his rogues gallery. I was stunned seeing Killer Moth on the list. In 1986, Killer Moth was a significant Batman villain, when nowadays he’s barely mentioned.

Killer Moth needs a redemption arc. Imagine how great it would be if he kept on sucking at being a villain and decided to try being a superhero instead. At first he'd be motivated for the wrong reasons like gaining popularity and feeling self-righteous, but as the story goes on he'd learn to become a hero for the right reasons. As he becomes more selfless and motivated to save people, he actually starts training seriously and becomes more competent. I don't think he should become a martial arts prodigy that can rival Batman or even Robin, but someone who could beat the average person in a fight. I think it would be really cool to see him going from fighting petty crooks to more serious villains and him getting in over his head. He could either continue training and become more competent at becoming a hero OR he could realize that there are other ways of helping people that don't involve masking up and fighting crime. Maybe he realizes that he's not cut out for fighting and realizes he's best suited for protecting and saving civilians in situations where heroes and villains are fighting and there is a lot of collateral damage. I think that would be a really cool way to innovate the character

The Killer Moth version from Teen Titans animated show (not Teen Titans Go!) is actually pretty good and I would dare to say is the greatest version of Killer Moth of all. While he is still funny, he IS a real menace and a very powerful villain; he created his own army of giant mutant moths which are terrifying and he also wields an electric whip. Awesome! Additionally, in the comic book "Batman: My Own Worst Enemy" where Batman has to scold Two-Face to another city, they are attacked by the combined efforts of Firefly and Killer Moth. Although their fight was brief, it was so great to see both insect-themed villains working together. Also, their costumes on that comic where excellent.
