This is my attempt to take a low resolution video game screenshot (320x240) and turn it into something much more detailed (8000x6000).
The arcade game Killer Instinct was displayed at an amazingly low resolution of 320x240 which was a common resolution of the time. Played on today's TVs, the game looks like a blurry mess. Rare made the game using mostly computer generated imagery which at the time looked amazing. By today's standards, not quite so much.
By using Photoshop I was able to remake a screenshot from the game the way my brain wanted to remember it.
I chose Sabrewulf because I thought it would be a good challenge to work with something that has lots of hair. I was planning on the 2nd character being Fulgore, but settled for Spinal since I couldn't find a Fulgore sprite. I think it turned out better with these two as it matches the theme better to have a skeleton instead of a robot in a setting like this.
The songs in this video are 'Tooth & Claw' and 'Ya Ha Haa' from the Killer Instinct Soundtrack called "Killer Cuts".
Each frame in this video represents 20 seconds of work. The image spans across 3 PSD files with 597 layers at a resolution of 8000x6000 pixels. The project took 36 hours to complete over the course of 2 weeks.
This is my first successful attempt at remastering the look of a classic game, but have plans in the future to do more projects like this for other classic games.

They need to make a Killer Instinct remastered version. Same controls and moves, but make the game beautiful just like this. Awesome work.

Too bad they won't. They already made a newer version for the xbox one. But IMO it really sucks compared to KI Gold.

Sinan Kocak both are good But i prefer the older graphics than the gold one... idk why its just me But i have a little more fun in ki gold

With a huge pay too. I can imagine the amount of work, and dedication to get this masterpiece spot on.
Pardon me while I pick up my jaw from off the floor... this is truly the epitome of EPIC, especially when you used my favorite character Sabrewulf. I am both jealous and incredibly impressed. =)
You... are AMAZING. This is... The Spinal song in the beginning; adding to the urgency and style of how you presented the speed art. ANd the HD Quality building up. The HD environment comming to life as the song played. THe shadowing and the color- So amazing. ANd when you started to work on Count Sabrewulf himself; brought tears to my eyes. I've always been a werewolf fan and a fan of Sabrewulf as a kid; as a adult I am still a fan of both. And seeing Saber come to life slowly from his old Super Nintendo sprite you had there for reference; really hit home for me. Seeing the light of the fire reflect off his fur; and his more realistic appearance... It was beautiful. Subscribed and Liked. ANd thank you for sharing this with Sabrewulf fans.
Your Saber Wulf looks better than the official remade version...

I watched this when you first released this years ago and have revisited it because I remember that it was a masterpiece. We use similar techniques with our art - keep up the great work, I'm onto some killer instinct themed track art now after having to stagger a song release. Finally found a good 48 hour window off work (food poisoning sucks) so I can tackle this project. Thanks for the inspiration to aim for this level of detail once again. It's always worth the effort.

Good Job on this. My favorite stage from Killer Instinct 1. I actually get to enjoy killer instinct forever because I own both of the original Killer Instinct arcade machines. I also loved Sabrewulf's stage from KI2 also it would be awesome if you ever have the time to create it.
