My dad made bait with corn, cornflakes, strawberry jello. When I was about 3 or 4, he was fishing and apparently forgot to feed me breakfast. He turned around and I had eaten all of his bait. I totally remember doing this too & it tasted good.

This is hands down, one of the coolest ideas I've ever seen. I wish I hadn't bought a bag of walmart catfish bait pellet chunk things. This looks like it works soooooo much better! Definitely going to try this on the Missouri River below the dams.

i use strawberry koolaid with mine and garlic powder not only catfish like but caught a 7 lb bass on it last year i also use a circle hook tied on a leader usually cut my chunks into 1/3s but i bought a really small crocet hook and put it thru the hotdog then i can string it on the hook just hook the lead and pull it down on the hook and clip leader back on snap swvel i use the good snap swivels enjoy

i have tried this same recipie useing shrimp about the size of the hot dog chunks, but i let the shrimp ripen in the sun a bit first before making this bait, results were killer, the upper hudson river gave up a few blue cats that time. great vids, take care.

I remembered in 86 Bill Dance used this bait on the Mississippi river using a float 3 liter bottle and 40 inch line connected with hotdogs as bait...he smashed them. By just letting the bottles float freely, from his boat and gathered them an hour later.

I do this same exact thing but I have never used the pepper but I do also throw shrimp and cut bait in the same mixture in a small bucket and shake it up makes the fish hit everything harder

Pretty good combination, truly enjoyed the bait experience...

Cool vid dude. It works. I used cherry n garlic powder. No peppers tho.today was the 4th time i used it n finnaly hooked a big fat channel cat. Couldn't get him on the dock tho my line snapped as i tried to pull him up about 10ft over the railing. Gotta get me a net dangit. God vid tho bra

I've tried this bait and I can attest that its true. I caught 7 in less than 40min in a local pond. Catfish love this bait. Note, If you dont have jello on hand you could use kool aid or powder lemonade it works great.

The jello is made of collagen. Which is animal fat. Thats why we use jello

And then you got a snack to eat while you're waiting for the fish to bite!

I've got some deer summer sausage that's probably been in the freezer too long to be good. Might try this recipe with that and a larger treble hook to really go after the big ones. It's injected with cheddar too!

@@CBU2221990 I went to my local pond, it's a really small one, and pulled out a behemoth for that area. Probably 12 lbs, but i'm really bad at guessing wieght, 25 inches. Not my biggest catfish but like I said, it's a tiny pond, maybe like an acre, maybe even less

TackleBerry 101 stuff in black licorice

Add your hook to it before you put it in to chill in the refrigerator and then they will be hooked and just grab the hook, put it to swivel you got it whipped

Use garlic salt Instead they like the salt also can do the same thing with raw chicken too

Would like to see bait rigged up on your catfish rig.

How many times can u cast it out .. does it still stay on after u leave it sitting in water waiting for a bite

I only use circle hooks for cats, and as Chantz Archer says, put the shank of the hook through the hot dog before attaching it. I always use a leader or snap to attach the hook. That way, I can change bait or hooks in seconds...

There’s not many blues in my area but I have lots of subs send me their pics and a guy caught a 45lb blue cat off of it so lol I’ll take his word for it

Having them set in the fridge, is very important. I use smoked paprika with the Jello and garlic.

Yes sir, I'm planning a little trip to New Mexico not to far from where i'm at. I have a sub that says there's a nice big public pond with some monster's. Liver tofu is best catfish bait, it attract them like crazy. Buy pint chicken liver and a box soya (dried tofu) on Indian food shelf. Purée liver in blender ( room temperature for 8 hours so it can be runny) then soak it in soya for a hour to absorb liver purée.

Man I would like to see you fish with it. It seems really interesting.

at 3:19 if you’ve ever had spoiled fish, one of the warnings is a peppery tast when you didn’t put any on it. cats like rotten things sothe pepper makes sense!

Can you use garlic salt also??

If you take some canola oil and some buffalo wing powder mix with a little bit of water and whatever spices u want and put it in a sour cream container and u can put hotdog cuts in it so they marinate and then either use the hotdogs or take some chicken liver and before you cast it out, dip it in the oil u made and it works nice, the oilyness rlly attracts them

Used red pepper and black cherry jello, and dumped the leftover hot dog juice into the bag as well
