It's even more messed up in the book. Kat gets a sprained ankle or something, nothing serious at all but he can't walk. Paul offers to carry Kat back to the lines. On the way they talk about stuff and are very relaxed, except for one time when a shell or bomb lands near them. They are well away from the blast radius and Paul is not hurt at all. So he keeps walking and talking to Kat. Few hours later when they finally get back and he puts down Kat, Paul finds out that Kat is dead. A tiny piece of shrapnel from the exploding shell had hit Kat in the back of his head, killing him instantly. Paul unknowingly had carried his dead friend on his back all along.

All Quiet on the Western Front was such a damn well gripping and intense movie. Every second of it was outstanding and the raw and often raging emotions it made you feel (especially during the Saint-Chamond tanks scene) was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Not ashamed to say I cried at a lot of parts, feeling sorrow for these young men having to die for the glory of the old. Only complaint is that I wish the end of the movie followed the book more closely but apart from that it was done well. A definite watch and the book is a must read. Both I feel can be freely called masterpieces.

When going through hardship like they did, the simplest pleasures of life tend to be all the more greatly enjoyed. I remember the series "Band of Brothers". In one of the episode about the Siege of Bastogne, one of the former US paratroopers recalled to the camera that, as they had very little food supplies, he had once been served some creamy mint alcoholised liquor by one of the remaining Bastogne inhabitants. And the American soldier said that he had enjoyed this mint liquor so much in that moment that even some 60 years afterwards, he was greatly fond of it.

The thing that really sucks, the war was basically already over at this point, the peace treaty was signed and the war would officially be over in a number of hours, they were basically on their way home when they decided to come back to that farm to steal more livestock. But the worst part of all? The general overseeing the troops decided not to let the war end peacefully and sent the troops at gunpoint to trudge through no man’s land to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. There were mass casualties on both sides.

Substance abuse, poor discipline, and bad decisions destroyed everything. We now realize it was PDSD.

I just know he fought Nazis in Germany but I never talked to him about it and he came back a different person and basically destroyed is entire life and fortune. Left his children nothing when previously it was assumed they'd inheret a good deal of land. He also killed a man after he returned in a bar fight. I learned of all of this after his death and the the fact my family was rich just a week ago I'm almost 40. It still blows my mind and I didn't believe it. I did some research because I called cap. For those who do t know the movie is called All quiet on the western front It's about 4 friend who join the military at the age of 18 and fight in WW2. The main character (Paul) lost his friends to the bombing and was so sad so he foun a new friend named Kat. Kat and Paul were stealin eggs and chicken from the farm so they could survive, they did it a couple of times. The tactic was that Paul was standing outside while Kat was stealing, but one time they switched places and the kid of the farmer saw Paul. He followed them in to the forest and shot Kat in the liver. Paul took him to the medic but the bullet poisoned him and he sadly passed away.

It doesn't matter what war you fight in. If you are actually going on missions and in direct combat, it changes you forever. Being at war is the exact opposite of civilized life in every aspect. You can't successfully adjust to a war zone without re-wiring how your brains works. It's the same as lighting a match. It can never go back to what it was.

It's absolutely breath-stopping movie which shows the reality of war , and glimpses of horror of WW1, and also portrays that how war brings the destruction and terror. The last movie i saw on war was Saving private ryan aroubd more than 2 years ago. And now seen this movie. It's absolutely fantastic and thrilling. Every character specially Paul Baumer has played splendid role. Kudos to team of makers and all artists. 14/01/2024 Sunday 03:44 PM
