Some people will say, "forget the past and iive in the present" But if we forget the past, we forget who we are.

Not only will you forget who you are or where you came from, but forgetting the past makes us repeat it.
Thank you for sharing. I did not know my family, I was adopted out into a white family when I was 3 days old. My Grandmother and Great Grandmother went to boarding schools. They, along with my birth Mother have all passed now, I never got to meet any of them once I finally found them. I pray for your family, and all like us whose family members were taken from their homes, and raised to be "white" not Indian.
No words come to me now, just great sadness
I teared up. There is so much hurt in the past that people (on both sides) try to just look over.
Over 10,000 views. Thank you for spreading the word and learning a small piece of unspoken history. Kahts "Thanks" :)
Beautiful.....and heart wrenching. Couldn't make it through the entire video without crying. My mother's older siblings all did time in a Residential school in Ontario.....A life-scarring ordeal.

Stay strong beautiful one and never forget!
Keep educating those who do not know about this. Make restitution.
I have heard horrible stories from relatives, and I still wonder why the boarding school still exists when all it stands for to me, is rape, murder and injustice to our native ancestors. I keep praying that they demolish the school and let the community heal.
These are very painful words. I remember hearing my great grandmother telling of having soap put into her mouth from speaking in her native Cheyenne tongue. Creator's Blessings upon you, sister! Nea'ese
Excellent poem and insightful visuals. Very effective and educational. Thank you.

@@Fyyt I don't think they thought it was wrong.
I am also a student at Fort Lewis. I have a similar family history connected with the boarding schools. I appreciate your poem and I grieve on a regular basis for the pain it caused them a the wedge it placed between siblings and the generations. I also have a presentation on Boarding School Blues and I have cited this video, Thank you for sharing.
goose bumps. very amazing
@frybreadqueen2008 Very, very moving. Thank you for sharing.
Your Story lives on...
This is such a nightmare. I pray all the time for people might open their hearts. I hope they will...
@doughboi505 so did you ever finish the poem??
Dave777 the idea of" moving on" is the worst form of repression! The very attempt to assimilate European values, culture and religion is evil enough! But to attempt to change a people's psychology is no worse than murder!

dam, things need to be told like that
Generations of these descendants, like the descendants of slaves suffer Post tramatic stress because of these attrocities. How sad.
@AlohaSiempre Your words are true and let us hope that the hearts of the oppressors feel the pain that we feel in our hearts. :{ jmg
thank you for sharing,
Where can I find the transcription of this sad story?
What is the name of the documentary that lead to you to write your poem?
Thanks..
Thank you Annie Smith.
@jasmoonbutterfly it still happens because that is what they teach their kids first
I really think you should write a book about this. Your poem would be a powerful beginning to telling the story of the wrongs of the indian boarding schools. Here is a super example of a 13 year old girl, Annica Benning, wanted to share her interest in Arizona Native American art and culture with other young people. The governor of Arizona gave every fourth grader in the state her book in 2010. Benning, A. (2009). Arizona: nations and art. U.S.A: Walnut Canyon Press.
Hey! Can I Include your work in a Film I'm working on?
That's a nice poem
Message to Badwolf73. I am in the same boat as you, My mother was NDN but she was ashamed of it....when I was very young she would speak of good things but as I got older and older...she became less and less NDN until it was all gone. She even bleached her dark brown hair because well, blonds have more fun....I am now doing what I can to discover my Algonquin heritage..but there is little. I am around a few Lakota and a few Wiyot. Those are the ones I am learning from..and all I can find online.
@payuck23 thanks lil Neph :)
@hatebeinghopeless I wrote this poem.
@Sirhansome hopefully with all the wisdom of their ancestors they'll will set examples for a better world. Stop the hate. Well done frybreadqueen!
I don't remember, it's been bugging me too, sorry. :(
Thanks for your story Read the book on Indian bording Schools in high school cried for days sad
Long time ago best we forget the genocide best we not go there it only makes the suffering longer and those that languish in it that much harder to overcome it. many cannot learn to love because they are not strong enough many cannot forgive for they are too weak to forgive.They turn to self destruction and that is why this story is best forgotten. For the self destruction of the Native Indians of North America is an epidemic and these stories only serve to destroy more minds.
@Sirhansome look up historical trauma.
This is what happens when religion gets put into our society
“The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.” -Marx 1848 I would like to believe that more people are learning that history really is written by the ruling class, the conqueror, and the poor and conquered are always enslaved in some way. Slavery = conformity. We are all killers, lovers, or even rulers if the circle requires it and the cycle of nature goes on and on. Marx only said what most of us now know to be the truth.

Translate this completely to all languages of the world so that everyone knows what has happened in the American continents since Christopher. The gun culture and weaponisation of Europe since Nepolean times spread to every part of the world threatening peace on the. When did exact date the natives of United States of America accorded equal citizenship rights, voting rights and protective rights. The natives should have pushed them back to Europe and then the world would have been in peace now.
Continued: Native Americans were treated horribly and their situation was basically hopeless. Any chance of survival would have only been possible by accepting Christianity and offering themselves as basically "peasant laborers". Sounds unfair? Yep, but who in the hell ever told you the world was "fair"? Talk to Africans, Asians and Pacific Islanders and ask them how it went when a superior culture planted the various flags of Europe on THEIR land. Same sad story with only minor variations.

@ImoJam I visited your channel. You have recently commented on the Dine prayer of several others. I find it curious that you can seem to appreciate the Dine prayer, yet insult me without an explanation. Perhaps you are White and found offence in my words & questions. Perhaps you missunderstood. Perhaps you must reflect. Stop the hate :{ jmg
The government could stop it but can't because Jesus is in my soul so they use COVID as response and for an excuse on how to leave the Lord Jesus a homeless man
@selenadelos - You seem so filled with hate that it's a wonder you can function. I am NOT a hater, but I am a studier of history. Why you would hate ME personnaly baffles me. You need help man! If you are a believer you should pray. I mean it; no one should be so hateful, it's not healthy. Good luck...
The American Natives got screwed really bad. However, you can NOT put 20th century standards on the expanding Empires of the 15th century. When the Europeans "discovered" the Americas they found people that were extremely primitive. Few, if any used any type of written language or for that matter even used the wheel! Basically stone age man faced a culture that had already entered well beyond the iron age. Native Americans were treated more like raccoons or other "less than human" species.
