It gets me thinking as well, over the past few days, that she has set up these restrictions & platforms of power for the sheer pleasure of exposing Man's virtues & faults. And that by setting herself as the absolute authority of the order, she has drawn Ryuko, her opposite, to decide on what rights & wrongs are to be maintained or discarded. Satsuki Kiryuin is truly an interesting character; to be the prosecutor of all mankind & challenge them, so that the best will arise to challenge her, she seeks a new world one way or another.

The further you watch into the series, this quote-worthy statement returns in vindictive context. In other words, it makes further sense & travels up the ranks of awesomeness in a blitz of glorious badassery.

I hate that I had to watch a commercial to see a commercial (I mean, darn you KZread), but I like this incredibly creative spin on the Magical Girl genre. It's kind of crazy hilarious (because of the genius) as they turned it into Shounen while keeping every element of a Magical Girl series!

It's taking itself pretty seriously in manners of plot, characters, etc etc. Everything, from the fanservice to the action to the hilarity is all fluent and doesn't seem like it's poking fun at anything else. You could argue about the part where the teacher reveals himself to Ryuko, but even then it just comes across as more natural hilarity than complete satire.

it's called First Impression. It can make or break any upcoming show, series, movie, or cartoon.

BELIEVE IN THE ME THAT BELIEVES IN YOU! First trailer of this I've actually seen. Now that I know it's by the guys that made Gurren Lagann, it's time to BUST OUT THE HYPE!

I love how this show literally takes everything you thought you knew about fan service and FLIPS IT THE FUCK INSIDE OUT. It's a show that is truly about female empowerment, the main narrative is that neither Ryuko or Satsuki will let the public opinion of such clothing shame them out of wearing it. In fact, Satsuki's own words were: "This is the form in which this outfit grants me the most strength. I will use this strength to further my own goals, and I will not sacrifice my ambitions for anything, even if it means baring my breasts for the world." And that's literally only scratching the surface of the plot going on here. This is Imaishi at his finest (he's always at his finest, I swear everything that guy touches is GOLD), he's creating powerful story-driven antics with excellent female characters and batshit-insane fight sequences (this trailer doesn't do it an ounce of justice). I am on edge to see what happens next, my god.

They mentioned they wanted to create an old school battle manga, so it seems the desaturated/rough colors/outlines is to help create that effect. I think I liked TTGL's bright, solid colors and crisp lines more, but you can't say for sure until you find out what the show is really like

I was waiting for you to say that. It's pretty much like if Ryuuko was a descendent of Utena and Anthy (or Akio but not likely bc Anthy can change gender and become 'Mamiya' but shudder anyway) flung into the far future and she ended up in a Gurren Lagann-type universe where 1984 met Sukeban Deka. Which sounds fucking brilliant and like it could appeal to both young and old generations. Her outfit and power up actually reminds me of Re: Cutie Honey, and Imaishi worked on that show too.

It's like I see an epic trailer for an anime and it looks super amazing and then there's a slightly distracting outfit. Well I mainly wonder what's the point of making it fanservicy if its not needed for the plot. I watched the first episode and I liked it so I'm excited for the next.

then i'm guessing you also can't take Panty and Stocking, FLCL, or Gurren Lagann seriously with their animation ;) not everything is supposed to be 100% dark and serious all the time. If you're not watching Kill La Kill, you're missing out though. It's quite entertaining.

I didn't ignore him, it was just irrelevant to my argument at the time. But, now that you mention it, that just proves my point that this series has a good amount of fanservice in it: both for males and females.

I don't why people continue to get so overly sensitive about the fan service, especially when GOOD animes come around. FLCL and Gurren Lagann pretty much almost has this same amount of fanservice, so we all should be over this by now.

And before you say anything else, just know that fanservice involving fictional women is typically aimed at males while fanservice involving fictional men is typically aimed at females. This isn't just my "opinion"; this is fact, not only supported by a plethora of series' and works, but as well as people that tend to be directors, voice actors, mangaka, etc in the Anime Industry.
