Diatomaceous earth is great to have on hand for pets. I’m a foster mom for a rescue and I get puppies (and an occasional kitten) from newborns on. Some come to us in sad shape, covered with fleas, ticks and not old enough, large enough or healthy enough to be treated with any commercial flea product. (Always check with your veterinarian, please.) I use only food grade de and don’t apply in such a way that the de becomes airborne. You do not want to have an animal inhale de. Also, de can harm some household vacuums. I clean up dead pests and de powder with a shop vacuum.

I just found out about de and it works well! I had roaches cause gross roommates........ put some in some penut butter works like a charm

Your plant gets silica from it. Silica is needed to strengthen The stalks and stems. It is very important. Once the ditenacious Earth is wet it will not kill insects the same way. It has to dry back out before it will do that.

How bad was the silicosis from the Silliness at the end? lol

I like to put some on the base of my stem and the spray it with a bit of azamax my theory is if the bugs can't climb past the clay like mix of diatomaceous earth and oily leftovers of azamax they will never get on my plant. im going with predator mites as well just in case.

No its harsh. I breathed it the other day when i applied it. My lungs felt choked and like a million splinters were stabbing them. Got a stuffed nose. My throat was burning as well. DO NOT INHALE. WEAR A MASK

Rauckz McCarron i have had it be effective with demodex on dogs. They would over populate again if i didnt apply it for a couple months. I believe the root cause is an immune system problem. Made all the hair grow back on dogs with bald patches.

this stuff sucks and does not work when wet. which is always always because even if you water from the bottom the soil gets damp and it wicks it right up and then it no longer works

Although I've never had a problem with bugs on the leaves but have fought fungus gnats and you don't have to reapply after watering. It will be rendered useless though until it drys back out but it does dry back out with the top soil, I only gave my soil a good sprinkle across the top and scratched a little into the soil. No need to put a heavy layer on top of your soil with how compact this stuff is and possibly lock the top of the soil up from any air.

It does not stop infestations though. Note that the powder only works when applied on to a dry surface, once wet, it is no longer effective.

Diatomaceous Earth...waste of money. Every time you water your plant it clumps up and get gummy. It does nothing and gets all over.

Please check info on breathing in diatomaceous earth. Its not good for you. So the end part of this vid is fairly misleading. It can also cause irritation to eyes as well.

Worms never come above the damp soil horizon as they need their body to stay moist in order to survive. (See any worm left on a sidewalk in summer.) Only time I know worms will “surface” is to escape predators, if the soil is too wet, and when electrocuted.

It will "cake" up heavily if the powder is not fully "tilled" into the medium. Cheers!

The diatomaceous earth does scratch through the waxy coat of insects, BUT doesn't cause suffocation. It causes dehydration of of the insect, given the waxy coat keeps moisture in the insect body. Effective, but the mode of action is different than mentioned in the video. Very true, I use this on my plants and the times where my fingers touched the DE powder, it gets SUPER dry and the dryness lasts for weeks (I have sensitive skin) :/

alvin young it works by insects crawling into it. When they touch it, it cuts them open. Best case would be if no water touches it.

Local feed stores carry it for really cheap. You can also just order online.(feed store as in farm store. Horses etc.)

I’m so confused, is sulfur good or bad, Why do we want unsulfered molasses in compost tea for our coacoa coir but sulfur is good for soil? There is sulfur in my dry amendments so what’s the point of unsulfered molasses

Sulfur is good, but it can be overdone. If it's in everything then you're likely to run into toxicity problems. As a nutrient you want very small amounts, but it can be fogged as a bug bomb. Two different uses.

Hey Asamusicdude, you're correct. Once it comes into contact with moisture it "cakes" up forming a layer of crust. I generally recommend that growers use this product in the surrounding areas, away from moisture. Thanks for stopping by!

Wrong. you don't even know what you are pushing! this stuff is harvested from the bottom of the ocean where it is wet. then its dry when u buy it. it "cakes up" when wet but it is still effective it will dry out. retards even spray it on their crops. by mixing it with water and applying it. when it dries it leaves a white coating. but if you do this u go to hell. trust me this shit is evil and intended to cause mass extinction on earth. u kill the bugs we need. no bug is a pest we need them ALL. you murder them ur an idiot. whatever u think is a "pest" that is just some other creatures lunch. u kill their lunch, they starve. u throw off the predator/prey balance in your neighbourhood then the whole world then we all die. thanks a lot.

this product ONLY works when the insect crawls thru the dirt. It scratches holes in their hard shell. It wont affect spider mites in any way shape or form. mites live their entire lives on the leaf, they NEVER pass thru the DE. But I use this product always.

i got rid of them with this product. But you should bleach first your growroom, cut all your plants. Then use this to prevent them from coming back. It won't necessarily kill them but it cuts them back big time.

@@voidremoved lol you sound extremely unhinged. it certainly doesn't "murder all life on earth". it will dry out soft bodied insects however. it's extremely useful for indoor gardens where rapidly reproducing insects can take over a space in a matter of days or weeks. it doesn't take much to figure out what will happen if a species is allowed to propagate unchecked without the presence of natural predators.
