Kigali: What to know before you go
Coming out of the shadows of the 1994 Genocide, Rwanda has risen like a Phoenix, strong and powerful. There is so much more to Rwanda than Gorillas. It is one of the most incredible Countries I have visited, with amazing people, breathtaking nature, culture, and hospitality. This is what should do and not do when they visit Rwanda. From respecting their ranking as one of the cleanest Countries in Africa and the world to trying to be a blessing are some important tourist do' and don'ts before you visit Rwanda.

About the Alleegies most african countries don,t know about those allergies so they eat everything and they are rarely affected i think its because of adoptation and they start when they are young so it,s heard to tell which or what allergies one have. @adventurousmidlifer

In no way am I encouraging. But we act as though this is not the culture around the world. Why is it that people don't spend the same energy to complain about the fact that to enter a national park, museum etc..in most African Countries as well as other Countries ie: China etc.. Nyungwe National Park charges locals 5,000 RWF and Foreign nonresidents $90, do you think that's unfair, we pay it as a tourist (I personally think its a bit excessive) yet we will haggle over .50 cent or a dollar🤔 I'm just saying make it make sense. You go to the airport and you pay 5 times the cost for a bottle of water, and lots of tourists do, but complain about .50 or $1... We walk around accepting that there are extortion-level price markups in a fancy restaurant where we pay 3x the cost for a bottle of water, but we pay it. I could go on and on... yet we draw the line in the sand for the hardworking moto drivers, waiters, hotel staff etc... The ones who need it most I just don't get it, respectfully. Just help me make it make sense. I was taught "There but for the grace of god goes I"

I agree... but some tourist be like "oh he gave me a moto ride let me ask" :(😥

@adventurousmidlifer 90% of rwanda people are hutu So no need to ask Due to the genocide in 94 that decimated 70 % of the tutsis!! It is better to downplay the ethnicities People still know who they are But they would rather focus On development that u witness
@Benedir

@adventurousmidlifer 90% of moto drivers are hutus maybe 95 Bigogwe with the cows u were among tutsis Banana wine u were with hutus Certain jobs tutsis would rarely do If u stay there 6 months U will know our physical differences Which the government is working hard To downplay by telling people To be quiet and encouraging foreigners to move in
It's ok you can ask me about my tribe I will tell you who I am that is not a problem,the fact that I am Rwandan does not take away my tribe,but again you gotta have a reason why you want to know that,i think the fact that you know i am Rwandan that's enough for a foreigner because when I go to another african country i do not go around asking for their tribe though i know they have it,i feel like knowing the tribe you are should only stay withing the natives of that country,but again i do not care if you ask me my tribe i will tell you,i know in our country some had made it a taboo mainly because a bunch are not proud of their tribe because of the innocent blood they shed of the other tribe and they do not want people to view them in that mirror calling them killers so they push so hard the narrative of the government that tribes do not exist and get very offended if they hear anyone mentioning their own tribe because that would cancel out the narrative of the non existence of tribes thus would reveal their tribe they do not want others to know but that's their problem,nothing can make me deny my tribe just because someone else is not proud of theirs or just because the government has pushed the false narrative that tribes don't exist,anyone pushing that narrative has an agenda and a bad one for that,there is nothing good comes out of denying who you are,anyways at homes we all say who we are,it is just in public that's where people do not say it but as a foreigner when you befriend someone here and ask them they would tell you especially if they do not belong to the one that shed innocent blood.
@adventurousmidlifer
Ай бұрын
I agree with you 100%. There are things unsaid that will tell you if a person is a tribesman/woman lol. I think when foreigners ask this question it is because we heard or read something, not for any genuine reason other than we are genuinely nosey lol

Nothing to be of proud my dear i knew my tribe when i was 17 yrs but it was a mess, seeing everyone i meet with and then classify mn that's shit but a good advice don't be too proud to even encourage your children to get deep in it cz nothing positive inside. at home we didn't have a conversation like that. I'm from innocent tribe but what I'm proud of ndumunyarwanda we are Rwandans that's the generation we want in the future

Rwanda is an apartheid where tutsi have all and hutu and twa have nothing,that's why the tutsi elite do not want to see how the tutsi are a minority that dominate all areas of economic and social aspects. People knows who they are and remember we still have tutsi genocide survivors
No way_ don't tell your friends to allow over ,costing because they are foreigners. If you tell them to stop bargaining then you are breeding bad manners. If the hotel alerts you about the tarrifs; why allow them to be over charged? If you want them to have blessings let them donate to orphages

Thank you for visiting my country and share your experience to the world. Something you missed about Rwandan quietness and reservedness is due to the oppressive nature of their government. Rwanda has the most repressive government in africa, people are killed or disappear for just commenting on gov policy or president. They are quiet and reserve to save their lives. For more info about its dictatorship nature check reports of most respected international human rights organisations reports. For your life sake please, please don’t ask anything about local politics. Be blessed
@duhuguraneshow4033

You're just lying! quiet and reserved nature of Rwandans is cultural and natural, it has a linkage with Rwandan values! In Rwanda, speaking loudly or putting out all our emotions is not good! People are raised like that, and being talkative is not culturally encouraged. Rwandans have been like that since the existence of the country. We are naturally introverts, but at the same time, we are very welcoming people. In Kinyarwanda, we even have a proverb saying that 'A guest can make you eat the seed! Fortunately, with the rise of technology, we are being open little by little. So please, do not mislead people with your hate against the current government. Do better rwose.
