I have seen so many parents protect their kids from anyone who doesn’t look like a J Crew model. I used to work with a mixed disability residence. We had one guy who had Down syndrome. He was fairly non verbal until an older man adopted him as a brother. One person having faith and this 30 year old guy who also lived there started talking & reading within ONE month. That’s when I finally understood the old adage, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” 8

I absolutely love this series - it’s so important for kids to know that those with so called disabilities are just normal people too like them 💛
@punky19761
5 жыл бұрын
Science with Katie it’s not “so called.” We’re disabled. It’s a fine thing to say. 😉 Also “normal” is subjective and not that important.
@SciencewithKatie
5 жыл бұрын
Lisa TheCatDude Ah, I have a friend who has Down’s syndrome who is always offended by the thought of being considered disabled, I wouldn’t want to offend anyone else by saying it is a disability. By normal I just meant like everyone else in terms of having the same thoughts, hopes, and dreams. I didn’t mean anything bad at all by using the word “normal”, I was just trying to say that everyone is “normal”.
@punky19761
5 жыл бұрын
Science with Katie Most of The Disabled community are perfectly fine with the words disabled and disability. It’s the words that we have claimed for ourselves, as apposed to the many other words probably made up by able bodied people. There are a few disabled people who don’t like the word Disabled , but then you should just use their preferred words for them, and revert back to disabled and disability most other times. If you refer to some people (able bodied people) as normal, and by default Disabled people not normal, a lot of disabled people aren’t going to like that very much.

@cancerisfunny9699

I disagree, I am autistic, it impacts me socially, therefore it is a disability and is not normal, the normal is just the most common. I would not consider myself normal or no-one should consider me to be normal. Yes you shouldn’t judge people based on a disability but you should know it’s there.
They are both so charming, that little girl knows how to guide a hell of an interesting conversation. She asks all the right questions and makes all the right jokes lol. EDIT: That child is too smart! Her view on the world trumps that of my own in regards to maturity level!

If you changed somethimg about your past then there is the 'butterfly effect' concept you'd have to deal with. Ultimately that is worst case scenario being death/not here. I myself can't wish for my wife to have survived pancreatic cancer as I know that I have a healthy 24yr old son nine & half years later no matter how shitty that sounds.
She’s accomplished so much and she hasn’t let her disability get the better of her we need more people like her
That was one of my favourite interviews. Michela is a smart girl with questions that maybe an adult couldn't make. Devon is smart educated girl. Well done to both of them. Btw Michela's giggle is so cute...

omg michela and crystal are my favorites, they’re so smart and open minded. being raised super well!

This is such an important conversation for children to have as there is a huge stigma against those living with down syndrome. Well done HiHo 💛
Good to see that there’s some smart understanding kids around 👍
“I think my dad tried to look for him.” Well sweet heart I would have gone with your dad to look for him too LOL. What a smart kind woman. 💜 And the little girl is so sweet too.
3:46 while the lady off-screen is talking. The editor made the guest a tiny bit smaller. Then she pops back into normal size. You can tell because the chair shadows are distorted while the off-screen voice talks. Kinda threw me off there for a second.

Kids meet a KZreadr. I think that would be really interesting since so many kids want to be KZreadrs when they grow up and are so interested in it as a job. They’d probably have a lot of great questions and it would be interesting to discuss some of the challenges of that being your full time job/life.

Cường Lê Đức I have Spina Bifida, so a different disability, and sometimes I can tell when another person has Spina Bifida. But also sometimes Spina Bifida doesn’t look like my form of Spina Bifida at all. sometimes a person with Cerebral Palsy and a few other disabilities look like someone with Spina Bifida. But sometimes disabled folk have specific, Spina Bifida-like qualities. I don’t personally find that offensive, as long as you believe me when I tell you things from my personal point of view.
