Kids Going "Off the Derech": Reasons, Reactions, and Responses, with Rabbi Y.Y. Jacobson
Just as many young people who are not religious become Orthodox, so do many young Orthodox Jews leave Orthodox practice behind. Colloquially, this is often called being “off the derech” - that is, off “the” way of traditional Torah practice.
The phenomenon of Orthodox Jews becoming less classically religious is real, and it’s important to think about why it happens. Is it simply a question of disbelief or doubt regarding dogma? Are there other reasons that we, as parents and educators, should take into account? In what ways are our educational methods to blame, how can we work to reform those problems, and can we fix the well-meaning but mistaken messages that may have been imparted to our children? What can we learn from those who leave Orthodoxy, and do we have a responsibility to try to convince them to come back? How can parents of children who are not shomrei Shabbat avoid the sense of failure, or a belief that their kids have rejected them and everything that they believe? On the other hand, if children seem well-rooted in an Orthodox belief system, is there any reason for concern when they attend secular college or the Israeli army?

I'm glad that you Mr. Jacobson gave us your true negative feelings about תפילין ...
That definition could also include children choosing more stringent paths than their parents. (One of my children claimed to be simply following in my footsteps but in the opposite direction😮) My own feeling is it isn't really anyone's "fault" but the journey their neshama needs.
I always marveled at the phonetic similarity between the Hebrew word תרומה and the English word trauma The Hebrew word translated to English is to separate a tithe. However, the word refinance means separation or aloofness. Rabbi YY said the greatest response to trauma is connection which is alluded to in the verse which says ויקחו לי תרומה that someone suffering trauma should grab a hold of God.
Every new parent needs to hear this. Such smart words. But it's never too late to bring your children back.

No, it's not the parents fault. Chazal tell us that when tragedy hits our people it is because of corrupt leadership, i.e., rabbis, dayanim, etc. It's not: Oh the parents just have to try and be more understanding..... if only they could forgive.... NO. Chazal could not be more specific. It's our leaders causing these calamities, but you'll never hear them admit that it is they who are responsible. It's the parents, or society, or shady friends, or the internet; never them.

ALways interesting to see how pidgnised Arabic hebrew is. Derech for example is clearly the creole form of T-R-Y-Q. However hebrew has undergone so many phonemic mergers, everything sounds gibberishy
What about children raised in mixed marriages whose mothers realize their mistake left the nonjewish husband only to find the children also seek nonjewish partners

Its not easy to be a jew you have to live GODs Torah and commit your selves to be good every day.To be a christian is very easy believe in Jesus and you are saved? from what?
What if the derech wasnt that paved to begin with?
