Mark knopfler on the guitar is the 8th wonder of the world , 🥺
That is what I call giving your child a great education.
I think this is Mark at the very pinnacle of his technical and artistic mastery... his restraint and control is transcendent
This song gets better with age. As you grow older, you get to understand the meaning of the lyrics, combined with the restrained but powerful music. A genuine and timeless classic.

I understood them when they came out.Youve gotta be simple if youre an adult and it takes you years to understand.Bloody Hell,we really do have to worry if it takes decades for morons to understand a simple song.
If this song isn’t a 10/10, what is? This is the gold standard right here-and it’s good to see the next generation being introduced to proper music.
I don't know what speaks louder Mark or his guitar either way we are fools to make war and in my opinion this is in the top five greatest songs ever made.
As a massive Queen fan, I love and admire Dire Straits. Especially this song, chills all over the place ❤️ Mark Knopfler an amazing guitarist, such a distinctive sound and voice. Keep up the good work guys!

One of my all time favourite bands. Glad to say I saw them live a few times during the 80's. Dire Straits are a band that sound best live & Mark K is one of the best guitarists there is. No auto tune back in those days, just fantastic musicians.

Thank you so much! We really enjoy this and have the best time doing these videos together. Very proud dad here! ☺️
I'm a huge fan of Dire Straits, as was my late Dad. I grew up listening to them and I remember watching this performance on video (I was 6/7 at the time, so my Dad recorded it). I didn't understand the significance of it at the time, just thought it was a brilliant performance of a brilliant song, but to do that on stage at a Nelson Mandela tribute concert while he was incarcerated purely for the colour of his skin (for 27 years!), just WOW. I have tears in my eyes when I listen to it on the album, so you can imagine my reaction to watching this performance. It isn't possible to score it high enough for me. Also love the Falkland Islands version of the video to this song - you guys should do a reaction to that. I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and I've subscribed purely on the basis of this video. You guys seem to have a very similar relationship to the one I had with my Dad, and you're both very engaging and likeable. Keep up the great work.

This is my favorite version of this song. Mark lets it fly. And watching his technique is so amazing. This video shows it so good. He doesn't just pick he uses his thumb to stop strings. This song gets to me all the time. It was on an episode of Miami Vice you can see on KZread.

It was the first time I have seen this video, and apart from the extremely inept photography, (took about 8 min to even see Knopflers brilliant left hand) it is so heart-warming to see just how much this song means to Mark (Knopfler). Excellent song and sentiments..

Mark Knopfler wrote this about the Falklands war, its a dying soldier talking to the soldiers around him, his brothers in arms. The words are heartbreaking, if you listen again. The OFFICIAL VIDEO has graphics even more heartbreaking, I think Mr Knopfler should be very proud of this song. Mark Knopfler is a genius, I've come to realise that at the age of a young 74, they were at their best in the 1980's I loved them then and still do, Mark will be around the same age as me now. Very well done 👏👏👏👏👏

Hahahaha these "pretty good" comments need to be addressed 🤣
Since the Ukraine war, I've watched a number of reaction videos to this fundamental truth - you see it arising within people within the first three measures of Knopfler's guitar. Usually it ends in tears - unlike any song ever written, it touches us all. He has captured the pure essence of our fundamental failure, and the pain of his guitar escapes no one. This video is particularly fascinating, because the young man's innocence has yet to meet some of our harsher realities, as compared to his father. So he reacts to his father's reaction. But sadly and perhaps inescapably, the tears of the father become the tears of the son. And tho' we long to shield them, we cannot . . .

You should have showed him the "graphic version"! For a kidd way more interesting. Nice reaction vid anyway!
This song was inspired by the Falklands War, which was going on when Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler wrote the song. The Falklands War was a conflict between Argentina and the UK over islands off the coast of Argentina that each country claimed rights to. The islands are British territories, but in 1982 Argentina tried to reclaim one of the islands. Britain reclaimed their territories, but lost 258 soldiers in the conflict.

I remember the stories about the Falklands. I was Born in 82 so when I looked up my year of birth there were lots of storing about that sad time. The song is a very emotional one, that anybody will feel just listening to it. Mark Knopfler really shows his true genius here 🙂

Strange that whilst I was at Newcastle Uni in the late 70's when Dire Straits were starting off at the time they didn't "do anything for me". Newcastle is their hometown so they were getting a lot of radio exposure and Sultans of Swing was all the rage, but until Brothers in Arms came out and the title track specifically I wasn't interested in them. I felt that they were ruined by the fame trip and that is certainly the vibe that (Mark) Knopfler has given out. Great reaction, this is up there with High Hopes as a track that can bring a tear to my eye too.

Of course he has tears. The people killing one another have more in common with each other than the ones at the top waging these wars. We went into Quwait but we ignored Rwanda. No people were threatened, just oil wells and supply chains and pipelines. Meanwhile, 500,000, many women and children were being slaughtered in Rwanda. We might as well of had an Exxon insignia on our arms rather than the American flag. Look at all the brave who were killed and for what? When will we stop killing our brothers?
