1951 my grandpa Kelly was working on that road we drove up with my parents in the car and I laid on the floor in the backseat I was so scared of those roads I thought we were going to go over cliff what a time to remember we stayed there for three days in a tent thank you for your show really enjoyed it brought back lots of memories

It is a nice piece of work. travelled it a few times. Ninety percent of the funding came from the federal government so thank Canada for that

Nice to hear about dangerous road improvement. Especially the one I have been on quite many times - such as Park bridge.

Thanks for this video, my grandson is there now working on site, he's a seismic driller (jan. 2022) and I had never been through that pass so was very interesting to watch .

They'd been planning to properly upgrade that section from way back in the 70s when I lived in the area. Finally, 4+ decades later....

Well, they're scrapped the sheds and tunnels for Phase 4; went with numerous bridges and bypasses instead.

I think a radikal new way are a Option : A long Tunnel under the Mountain. The switzerland have boring a 50~km Tunnel under the Alps. A Tunnel : No problems with weather No problems with Animals No problems with rolling stones or snow from the Mountain No problems with breaking from Trucks, etc The cost and construktion Time are not longer as this Projekt?!? A Tunnel construction have not so weather risk....

@@redrocket176 Your tax dollars at work. :-) This is one of the few times I agree the money spent is worth it. I've been over that road since before they started the work and the upgrades were overdue IMHO. There's still stretches of the Trans-Canada Hwy. (TCH) where it's two lane highway and a jack-knifed rig can shut the TCH down for hours, four-lane won't stop closures but it does make the road safer so there's less human caused incidents, especially winter.

@@TheDrew2022 ...Highways and railways ARE so necessary in the modern world. SO much “stuff” is transported by truck and train!!! WAC Bennet knew that in the ‘40’s and was voted in for decades running on that platform! I was just a kid then, and understood the concept. Still makes sense!
