Kia Sportage 2015 review - Car Keys

Read our full written review here: www.carkeys.co...
The Kia Sportage is one of the most popular crossover SUVs on sale, and is statistically Kia’s bestselling model in the UK.
Competing against the likes of the Nissan Qashqai however is not easy, so Kia will have to keep its Sportage fresh and up to date.
But has its 2014 facelift given it enough clout to pip the Qashqai? We take the Sportage out on the road to put it to the test.
Can the Sportage really tackle models like the Nissan Qashqai? Watch our video review above to find out, or skip to bits of key information using the links below:

That is actually MY car in the video! I bought it just under1 year old from EMG in 2015. We use it to tow a 1500kg 17m caravan which it does with aplomb. No problems with it at all other than usual wear and tear, tyres etc. The average fuel over the year isn't particularly good at 34 but that includes ~2500m towing. Whilst the auto tow limit is 400kg lower than the manual, it doesn't struggle at all. We toured the Scottish isles with it - no problem at all on Mull's single track roads and having the 4WD helps negotiate muddy fields. I would certainly recommend auto for towing. The weight of steering straight ahead makes it a very relaxing towcar. I continue to love the car, it always cleans up like a new-'un. I don't know what I would get when it comes to replacing as I don't particularly like the styling of the newer Spotrages. I find the drive & ride preferable to my mate's Tiguan, even with its plethora of gizmos!. One thing that did pee me off was you have to pay the dealer (~£30) to update the satnav - you can't do it yourself. But all in all - I love it!

I bought a 2015 plate Sportage 2ltr 16v diesel mode and can honestly say that I'm very impressed. I have been a Mercedes owner for the past 15 year's and got sick of paying merc service charges. I do around 70 miles daily travelling to and from work and I find the Sportage a pleasure to drive. glad I made the cross over..

My Sportage 1.7 diesel is about to turn 1 year old this month and I'm still loving it. I totally disagree with this guy about body lean. It has a little but nothing like he seems to imply. My Sportage thunders along the country lanes where I live. I feel it handles the corners better than the 61 plate Qashqai that was previously owned. The Sportage also doesn't feel as compact as the Qashqai. Both Nissan Qashqai and Juke have been replaced with Sportage neither Sportage has had any problems where as the Qashqai and Juke both had their problems.

I got mine last week.. what an amazing car! It's not the most fuel efficient around and the wheel doesn't give much feedback, but its very pleasant to use (heavy at the center and light on big turns), its a comfy car, huge from the inside, stacked with kit and still a true head turner. I don't agree on a body roll though - its quite stiff and believe it or not, it rolls less than my Mondeo.

Hi there, thanks for your comment. I think the Sportage definitely has the edge over the Hyundai ix35. I didn't think so at first, but after a few days the Sportage won me over.

@@neneyounge It was awesome and then it got stolen 2years ago. If you have a keyless entry, you HAVE TO add some additional security. Regardless of the brand. It was gone in 3mins. ..i bought myself new CX5 immediately (2019) and its great as well. Cx5 has better interior quality, sound proofing and even better cornering, but I do miss the magnificent panoramic roof from Sportage :)

I commented on the Kia 2 years ago. Winter 2018 in England was bad by our standards, doing my 75 mile round commute to and from work was a joy as got to try AWD and 4X4 driving. I have the same seats in mine and must say after 10 miles they become painful... but still a great car. The only thing that disappoints me is KIa's after sales as my experience is shocking to say the least. Based on my after sales experience Its very doubtful that I would buy a new one. Sorry Kia you have to get this one sorted

Okay! I bought my Kia 1.7 Nearly 6 years ago and what an amazing car not a blip or a problem other than brakes pads, tyres and a battery that gave up the ghost. My car has been amazing and that would understate the car it has been bloody amazing. It still looks really smart and the body is a good as the day I bought it. Interior the same wears really well no broken switches or bits falling off. Well done KIA it's the only car that I have bought new but am reluctant to part with. I am not on my own I have a friend who has the same car and will not part with it. I bought it in France and have a mileage reading today of 115000 Kilometres. I have it serviced on a regular basis but I don't have it serviced at a KIA garage too expensive I use Leclerc auto great service work guaranteed and a full service over a third of the main dealer price. Oh! I do visit the main dealer for the body check to keep the 7 year warranty. Should you get one too bloody damn right.

I have had a KX-3 for the last year and contrary to the video, all 2.0 diesel models come with all wheel drive, not just the 181bhp version. The car has it's good points and bad points. For a one year old car there are too many squeaks and rattles in the car. It flexes a lot and this causes the trim to squeak. I don't think the chassis is very high tech - there is even plywood in the roof (you can see it if you open the sunroof and look in from the top). Because Kia want it to have some off road ability without a low range box, first gear is very low and a big gap to second. You always have to rev fairly highly going up from 1-2nd. This has the same problem going down, what is too slow for second gear is often too fast for first and the gearbox simply will not go in without double-clutching or slowing right down. This car is not pleasant to drive in slow traffic if the speed is right in-between 1st and 2nd. The hill start system only works on steep inclines, so you can still roll backwards if you don't use the handbrake. Room for rear seat passengers is also not as generous as the video shows if the driver is a six footer and while the stated economy is 47mpg it actually averages 36mpg for mixed town and country driving. There are quite a lot of good points though - it handles well, I don't notice much body roll and it's very stable and comfortable on the motorways. Performance off the line isn't anything to write home about, but the more important 3-6th through the gears is good. The AWD system also works well, you will never spin the front wheels and through the winter the handling felt very safe indeed. The SatNav also works well and the infinity stereo system sounds great. Do not go for the optional DAB radio - it doesn't integrate with the main stereo properly and reception is poor. Overall it's a pretty good car but it has it's faults (squeaks & gearbox) I will not be buying another.

In Britain, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries this Kia is called Sportage, as in Sport ah ge and has been for years. Just as this pronunciation sounds odd to you, the American, Sport age, sound very strange to our ears. There are all sort of variations, Hyundai and Mazda come to mind, both pronounced differently in various countries. Take Hyundai. The original Korean pronunciation is closest to HYUN-day (-hy as in Hugh, -u as in bun, -ay as in day, stressed syllables shown in upper case). Hyundai UK, including its adverts, has a different way of saying it: high-UUN-digh (-igh as in high, -uu as in book, British anglicisation). Hyundai UK press officer Laura King says this is the traditional British way to say it. But you'll hear two different versions used in the UK HQ, she adds. Those dealing with the domestic market will use the anglicised sound. But employees dealing with the global business will use the Korean version. Hyundai's US operation, true to the Superbowl advert, uses the pronunciation HUN-day (-h as in hot, -u as in bun, -ay as in day, US anglicisation). But in a Californian dealership's Spanish language advert there's another version, sounding something like Han-die. Or Mazda. Mazda is a Japanese company, right? So what we really want to know is how Mazda is pronounced in the Japanese language. You might be surprised to learn that Mazda pronounced in Japanese comes out to “matsuda.” If you know your Mazda history, however, it really isn’t too surprising. Though that pronunciation doesn’t make as much sense to those who speak English, it makes perfect sense if you understand Mazda’s beginnings. See, a long time ago in 1920, Mazda was founded by Jujiro Matsuda. Notice that the spelling of his name is the same as the Japanese pronunciation for Mazda, so it should be no surprise to hear it pronounced “Matsuda” instead of “Mahz-duh” or some other variation. The Mazda name also derives from Ahura Mazda, which is a god from early civilizations in western Asia Ultimately car names in English speaking countries become anglicised and even this will vary by country.
