I started driving around Houston around 12pm Monday July 8th the same day the storm hit. I have been driving around from the Galleria area, to the NE, to Spring to The Woodlands and back. I'm a multi-state All Lines Adjuster. I didn't see a single repair truck until WEDNESDAY and it has been far and in between since then until Friday when I started to see a few more on a somewhat regular basis. A few people need to get fired. Centerpoint along with a few other departments need to be fined, and it's time for a different system IMMEDIATELY!

Where are they getting these numbers of dispatched or actually energized areas/homes? I'm going on day 7 now and map said we'd be restored today the 13th and it's not true!! We are 45min away and it'll be the 14th. More communicative, you cannot even enroll in the "power alerts service" per the instructions! Further Observations: VP of CP says "for decades they've been burrying cables on new construction," but where, because my house was built in 2006 and none of the cables are burried. Where are the plans for newer tech and burried cable for other existing infrastructure? Love the convo about DCRF but feel there were lots of excuses and the legislation needs to allow resiliency programs! Lack of transparency is 100% happening on everything with CP! Also regardless, thank you linemen, electrical experts, and laborers on this. Sadly, a contract team stoodby ~4 hours awaiting "authorization" on day 4 outside of my residence from CP and couldn't get ahold of anyone for approval and then finally drove away. We are on day 6, going on day 7, with no power. Also there's an emergency center up the street which they advised in their plans would have power as priority but they don't and the sign says go to another facility. While I understand they're working on things, it's hard to witness this. I think there's an opportunity to bring in more smart grid, new technologies, hybrids, redundancy, and emergency response per the billions of dollars available in government funding under Justice 40 and disaster preparedness yet we're stuck with same old "bandaid" repairs and the outages get worse. C'mon y'all, we're Space City, let's act together and stop old behaviors and old money usage... time to step into the present and get more proactive than reactive because the means are there. Like Kennedy said, "we do these things not because they are easy but because they are hard." A little sacrifice of wise investment, hard work of capable people, and leveraging available funding will go a long way! Lastly, I see arguing and finger pointing on declaration of national disaster, yet nobody ate their portions of crow on either side, c'mon y'all, step up, show up, and let's focus on solutions before the next hurricane or derecho!!

Truth. And to add, I worked for a national company where HQ was split between BatonRouge & Houston. When Katrina hit, followed by Rita's threat to Houston, I was assigned to a newly-formed "Disaster Recovery Team", chaired by the CFO. As part of the IT dept, I detailed all the operations that were vulnerable down to the smallest detail [one employee used a stand-alone application that still used dial-up😯]. I interviewed companies who specialized in DR, categorizing their cost/benefit using Gold/Silver/Bronze model. The most expensive would have us running in 24hours [Gold], the cheapest, 1-2weeks [Bronze]. The CFO kept dragging his feet on making a decision. I came to realize that corporate bonuses were tied to the cost. The entire exercise was a lot of smoke & mirrors, get busy doing nothing. And as I sit in a local public library typing this because I'm DAY6 with NO POWER, the memory of that assignment & my current reality in 77004 is making me saltier than Lot's Wife.

We have the same issue up in NW Louisiana. Minor storms will put thousands of folks out for days and AEP refuses to cut trees and clean up pipelines. When a squirrel farts we are down for hours. It drove me to spend thousands on a NG standby generator just so I wouldn't have to suffer in 100 degree temps with no AC for days every year up here. These power companies spend nothing on maintenance and tree trimming. I called AEP 7 years ago about a line running through three huge pine trees behind a house I owned back then expecting them to come trim it since it was on their easement. I told the woman on the phone you couldn't even see the lines or the pole anymore for the thick tree limbs and every time the wind blew lights would flicker from the limbs on the lines....she basically told me if I was that concerned about it to hire an arborist myself and get it cut on my dime.... My jaw hit the floor....complete incompetence...

Beryl wasn't supposed to hit Houston it was supposed to veer off elsewhere, but it didn't, it actually had the nerve to come directly to the city. #2 it takes money honey. I was on island of st thomas and lived in downtown harbor area, it took almost a month, entirely, to get services back on. New Zealand was 1 year without electricity. And know, that although I am not an electrician engineer, or weather forecaster, more hurricanes are coming (soon) (season), and know to 1st world, capitalism, Will get electricity. How soon is a legitimate question, but won't solve a thing.

It will take until the end of July for several of these areas to get power back - if you're in the "Restoration Data Pending Review" category in Centerpoint's interactive map, then brace yourselves for a long wait (well past July 19th).
