You are one bad ass dude Booker. I'm a B3 player & I'm pretty sure I played every song you ever recorded back in the day. I played with Gene Hughes & The Casinos ( Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye!!!) in the good ole '70's. You'll go down in history as one of the best.....

I saw this guy in Elgin, IL at the community college; he's not only awesome on the keys, but he and his boy are so great together and super nice.

I just love how he knows all the stops by heart, just goes "zip zip zip" and it's the exact sounds from the record. I guess after playing the song for 40 years, that would become second nature, changing them like that.

What a genius on that Hammond Organ!

This song came out when I was a boy. Loved it then, brings tears now. Much better times in 60s-70s

What a great unassuming genius this man is. What a perfect epitome of the word.

I played in a band with a keyboard player. Nice gear; no Leslie but the effect was on board. He knew BT & MGs but not all the tunes. I sent him the studio recording of Hang 'Em High and he was just blown away.

With due respect to Billy Preston and Alan Price, Brooker T is the best keyboardist ever.

I love the sound from Booker T for modern music of the past 65 years, but it's a sacrilege to put him above others. Above Keith? Rick? Jon? Herbie? Ray? are you kidding? Do a little more research. Keith Emerson is widely considered to be the greatest, along with Rick Wakeman, and of course Jon Lord, who's sound has been trademarked and was widely praised (even by Rick and Keith) for his talent and breakthrough in new sounds. Herbie Hancock honed the best playing ability of all-time with his innate skills, and was a prodigy for several genres of music at a young age. He eventually meshed together several different genres to create various forms of fusion and he was in the forefront as one of the inventors in early 70's funk, and the leading inventor in modern funk of the early 80's (which eventually opened the door to hip hop, modern R&B, house, etc...). For the sake of passion, it's fine to say that Booker's name belongs in that group (he was a child prodigy) but certainly not above!!

The climatic keyboard riff was a melody taken from 'And the Address' by Deep Purple, released 3 months prior to Hang 'em High. Listen to Deep Purple's song for the riff at 1.34, 2.01, 3.02 and 4.01, all done by guitar. The studio recording of Hang 'em High plays the same riff 6 times 0.33, 1.02, 1.31, 1.59, 2.27, 2.55, and sounds fantastic in the way each climax get stronger and stronger from 1st to 6th, with a beautiful crisp keyboard sound. In this video, you hear the riff at 0:55 (and more spots onwards). Praise to Booker T & The MG's for making this fantastic Score in the movie Hang em High.

To say that snippet of the melody was taken from Deep Purple is a stretch. Small phrases can sound very similar but need viewed in the context of the entire musical line/composition. Hang em High was written by Dominic Frontiere for the movie and was likely written long before Deep Purple's "And the Address" was released. Mr. Booker T. Do you still do sessions for people and do you have the ability to do tracks if someone sent you the stems and wanted you to throw down some B3 or whatever?

Great to do this, but terrible camera work. You can't see his feet. Most the time you can't see what he does with the left hand.

Is that one of those Bill Beer jobs? IMPOSSIBLE to repair; Beer didn't know anything about RETMA color codes and ground all the chip numbers off the cases so you had to go through him to get a new one.

To "b42baratone"...... Know what? Booker is fantastic but, when you start throwin' that "GREAT" word around you must agree that JIMMY SMITH was the greatest!!!!!!! period......
