Kevin Spacey receives standing ovation at Oxford lecture on cancel culture

Kevin Spacey was given a standing ovation by an audience at the University of Oxford last night (16 October), after he delivered a performance as part of a lecture about “cancel culture”.
It was the first time the House of Cards actor, 64, has performed on stage since the US star was acquitted of sexual assault against four men in a London trial that ended in July 2023.
Spacey delivered a five-minute scene from Timon of Athens, William Shakespeare’s satire of wealth, greed and betrayal. Modern critics have described the work as an exploration of what is now often called “cancel culture”.

It is just unfortunate justice takes so long to be spoken. This man lived in fear for 5 years. The mental damage is real and he should have been compensated more than the 40k he received from that case.

I can understand your fear but in my opinion it is the judiciary to decide what is allowed and not the twitter crowd or big company who remove employees because of some belief. If you want to protect a marginalized group do it legally by introduce laws and getting in the position of power in the democracies rather than expect that the world shall bow down to your tweet just because you find some inconvenience

Rather than virtue signaling online about how people worried about cancel culture aren’t “worried enough” about “actual suffering in the world,” go out and do something to try to alleviate that suffering you refer to. Put your money where your mouth is rather than lecturing others on it. “Cancel culture isn’t ‘real suffering;’ people out in the world are really suffering” is your premise, not “theirs.” Don’t “delegate” responsibility; it’s your assertion; own it. Otherwise you’re just another self-promoting social media narcissist, a dime a million these days.

That's what happens when you spend life in stress for years. Sure maybe his issues aren't compared to let's say any homeless person's grievances, but stress is subjective and we all take it relative to the stages in our life.
