People who trash this movie must not be interested in learning because there is a lot that can be learned from this film. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about humanity, leadership or free thought. It's a worthwhile reflection on all of those things.

I must've seen some of Kevin Costner's work before I caught the Postman on TV one (very late) night, but after watching it I couldn't get enough of him. I wanted to know who he was, what he was in, and I wanted to see it all. It's the movie that made me love this guy.

I loved it. There were some nagging inconsistences regarding timelines, which could have been sorted out with more time in the writer's room. Also that a small roving band of horseback maniacs in Oregon held an entire country under their bootheels...Not likely.

It’s one of my favorite movies. It’s about how the written word can reconnect society and start the process of coming back from ruination and devastation. I’m a writer and this movie shows how important words can be!!

Comparing it to the book, yes it wasn't as good. The filmmakers weren't trying to make the book in the movie. They just took a few ideas from the book and made their own story. The two stories as separate entities are both very good in their own terms. The main idea of the movie is how the american spirit of freedom and wanting that free can bring the people together and overtake an adversity, a tyrant.

The main problem of the movie is its pacing. He spent way too much time with setting up the whole Holnist army thing and hardly any time with reaping the fuits of the success of the Postman, rallying people against the threat in the end. Up to the point where he just raises an army out of nowhere.

Most people will likely miss the important message of this movie. Communication between the peoples of the world is vital to maintain freedom. Every Communist/socialist oppressive regime seeks to control the flow of information to keep people from organizing any kind of revolt. Communication is key to organization. What we have now in the US is the beginnings of the control of information. People, please stop believing every thing you read or hear on the news and use a readily available resource like the internet to research and consider different points of view before making your decisions. If I have learned anything in my 56 years on this earth that is if something sounds too good to be true then it most likely is. There are no easy paths to a successful happy life of freedom

I don't like the film as a whole, I like a majority of it though. Some things could and should have been done differently, but it was not as bad as people made it out to be.

at Oliver Lannister - in 1997 there was a Judgement Day a Nuclear war.. so the Film takes place 16 years after apocalyptic events There were no apocalyptic events in the real life universe of 1997 . In 2020 we are starting to see some apocalyptic events with this corona virus pandemic so my theory is this movie actually takes place in 2036 In my version of the time line heres how it goes 1996 - The Postman is born 2020 - Start of Apocalyptic events 2029 to 2034 - World War with China, and the Chinese use a EMP super weapon on America. 2036 - The movie takes place, theres a civil war in america 2066 - The Postman dies about the age of 70

I think Costner is a great director but a mediocre actor at best although I thought he was great in Silverado. Also, Tom Petty should stick to what he does best and that ain't acting. Other than those two, I thought the acting was great, especially Larenz Tate and Will Patton. The Postman is a great story and one of my favorite movies.

The postman the movie was possibly the worst film made by human kind! Read the book and then you will wonder just WTF Costner was doing/thinking The main theme was not even evident in the movie. I had no idea just what was going on, as again nothing to do with the book
