It’s illegal to drive an El Camino without a mullet. Kevin needs to start growing the mullet before he gets pulled for improper equipment. 😂 Tell Kevin he may as well go back and torque the intake bolts again. Every SBC that I’ve put intake gaskets on needed re-torquing because the gaskets crushed after sitting for a while.

My brother had one when we were kids. It had a Big Daddy Roth rat eating a piece of cheese hand-painted on the post in back of the driver and passenger. It had a low compression 454 under the hood and it could get up and go with all the weight. Also had a 59 El Camino which could do some serious wheelies

Chevrolet put the distributor in the rear because it drives the oil pump. They wanted the sump in the rear so under hard acceleration, the oil in the pan goes to the rear and the pump doesn't starve. Fords don't accelerate hard enough for the oil to move out of the front sump.

GM did use RTV, a real high-quality RTV, for valve cover gaskets. I bought cases of the caulking tubes from our local Buick parts dept at a steep discount for buying it by multiple case lots and used it in multiple applications. One was a real money saver. On Fairbanks Morse oil field engines the pumpers had a bad habit of smacking the top of the case on the WICO magnetos using the crank handle when the mag would not impulse when cranking. I put about a 1/4" coating of the RTV on top of the magnetos and we ceased having to buy $75 magneto cases. Checking and rebuilding magnetos was a 2-3 a day happening due to moisture/condensation causing the points to fail. That usually took about 15 minutes to repair them. We annealed the copper single-cylinder head gaskets and put a light smear of that RTV on the gasket. No water pressure as the engines ran at 212+ degrees and the steam went up into the radiator and fell back into the engine as liquid. I hate to think how many times those gaskets were reused.

I had a 1976 Malibu Classic with a Police Pkg. 350 4brl and beefy tires. Handled like a dream. With dual exhaust I eliminated power robbing parts and added Maremont flow through mufflers. Sounded like Kevin's El Camino. I put 100,000 miles on it, then bought a Pick up. The car shop who bought it sold it and repoed it a dozen times. Then they pulled the motor and put it in a dirt track car and won money with it. They called, asking if I had any more of those engine/transmissions laying around. I was surprised it lasted that long.

Kevin is a hell of a good sport and just rolled with the punches. The bright side Clint is if you do more videos on it, it would be the cheapest project on the channel. A brand new GM 350 long block wouldn't cost more than just the head off some of those bigger diesels. And before someone jumps my case about it, a new head for a C15 Cat is nearly $4k; Summit racing has long block 350s for under $3500. For that matter depending on the parts cost, he nearly spent that much to just bolt that 12 valve in Hunter's truck, not including the engine. Jokes and brand bashing aside, Kevin looks pretty damn happy with it, and that is all that matters.

But instead, it bent the lower control arm on the passenger side. I had already reinforced the control arms with plate, so it bent where the bushings connect to the axle. Great grocery getters. Drunk ran into the passenger side of it when it was parked. I'm confident Kevin can take care of the beauty shop problems.

Seeing you guys work on that engine sure brought back a lot of memories so thanks for that. I heard mention of 350 but unless it was changed that should have been a 305. What I want to know is when are we going to see a Ranchero...... you know just for the grins and giggles🤣🤣

When Jay said "why did you let him bring this home" I lost it! So darn funny. You also had me going Clint on several of your comments. Great video.

I had a flash back, the idle sound of the El Camino after the burn out sounded just like the car in the movie Christine. Lol!

As soon as you guys got ya fingers on it I had a feeling it would be better by the end of the video bro. Bit of a GM 350 fan too. Kevin's smile says it all. Safe travels. Ken
