Kevin Aymoz of France appears to be in the prime form of his figure skating career for the 2023-24 season and opens up about his career goals and aspirations.
Following two challenging seasons marred by injuries, the 2019 Grand Prix Final bronze medalist made a remarkable comeback at the 2023 World Championships. He continued to maintain his exceptional form early in the 2023-24 season, capturing everyone's attention with two electrifying performances at Skate America. With nearly flawless and highly intense routines, he clinched the silver medal, coming very close to matching his personal best score.
We had the opportunity to sit down with the talented French skater to discuss his triumphant weekend at Skate America. He candidly shared his experience of dealing with nerves before his performances and how he effectively managed the stress. Aymoz provided insights into his pre-event preparation and a detailed breakdown of the factors contributing to his success.
Looking ahead, Aymoz has set ambitious goals for the season, including a second qualification for the Grand Prix Final and a podium finish at the European Championships. He also revealed his commitment to continuing his competitive career until the Olympic Games in Milano, leaving his future in the sport open beyond that point.
During our conversation, Aymoz delved into the intricacies of his two programs for the 2023-24 season. He provided a personal perspective on his short program selection, even though it wasn't his initial favorite, to Ravel's "Bolero." He discussed his choice of costume and his efforts to make the well-known musical piece uniquely his own.

    He's simply marvelous. Such an artist. Both his programs at Skate America were jaw-droppingly amazing. He blew the roof off the place. Kevin, if you see this: If you fear tomorrow, you miss today. Your quality of skating is TIMELESS. If your skating is pure, as yours is, you can skate well into your 60s -- perhaps not triples and quads, but you can skate as an artist. Go watch what Gary Beacom does today. He is in his 60s and he still performs as well as teaches. Because he SKATES, and uses edges to create art. You have the talent to do this too.
