The flap stops the pressure to the needles if you should open the lid while brewing. This prevents the needles from spraying hot water and coffee on you when you open the lid.

Super automatic espresso machines make this look super simple lol. They have built in coffee bean grinders, an automatic coffee tamper and ejection mechanism and automatically grind the beans, put the ground beans in the filter, tamp them under high pressure, brew the espresso under very high water pressure (it has special high pressure tubing and connections) and eject the used coffee grounds into a waste coffee bin at the press of a button. The machine costs a lot more but you then get even better coffee for pennies per cup compared to k-cup/pod machines so they pay for themselves.

Which eventually and unfortunately makes it more prone to failure.
I really like that the new Keurigs don’t have an internal tank. It seems to be a much more sanitary design.
That thermo-sensor is actually resettable. There is a small hole in the center of it and you can reset the switch with something like a paper clip. Had an issue with mine after a failed descaling process which seems to be a common issue with these units. The entire unit would not power up due to that thermo-switch being tripped off. Reset it with a paper clip in that hole and the unit came back to life.

I really appreciate everything that's packed inside one of these. Just got new K Supreme Smart and it's a little intimidating. So far I've done a Cleansing Brew and made one cup of Columbian Roast using an off-brand K-style cup. First time I closed the lid the machine didn't 'see' the cup. I raised the lid and re-seated it and suddenly we were cleared for 'ignition'. The coffee tastes better with the multi-stream tech that this K Supreme Smart employs.
Great, straight forward explanation and breakdown. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing and posting! Just upgraded to a K-Supreme Plus from the original Keurig and wondered how the water in the supreme plus heated up so much quicker without having to wait before it dispenses. So many neat innovations done throughout the generations of the product.

Thank you! It was great seeing the two pumps and how they work together. It appears that the pneumatic purge pump comes on as soon as the fluid pump turns off. One of the pressure switches must tell the machine when the water has been purged from the lines to end the cycle.

Much better than drilling holes in the side hoping to tag the thermal reset. Thanks
Well-this helped to understand why our Keurig stunk so bad. Our K Supreme smelled and the coffee tasted like mildew. I descaled whenever it said to, and I constantly cleaned the inside of the reservoir. Ends up, the mold smell was in the rubber and spring on the underside of the reservoir where the it connects to the water flow. The area that connected the reservoir to the machine was always wet and it smelled, as well...the little tubes that go to the water level sensor could were part of the problem. The smell was embedded in the areas you couldn't access.
A very professional presentation, simple and straight forward, easy to understand!! Thank you so much. I just bought a new Supreme Plus from Costco. Now, after watching your explanation with all the internal parts visible I feel so much better using this machine. It feels like the user, myself, now is closely connected to my coffee maker. Thanks! Your video really HELPED! Getting the case off WAS a struggle (as you promised!) Once inside, I found the thermostat cutoff/reset and reset it. It still had a problem with the unit shutting down. As an experiment, I disconnected the hose nearest the right cabinet side panel. The unit fired up fine over and over to do the descaling but the "Add Water" light did not come on. The water got TOO low, the safety thermostat shut OFF and there it was......dead again. Reconnecting the hose did NOT make things normal. Soooooo, to keep using my machine, it is CONSTANTLY in "Descale" mode after I press 8 and 12 oz buttons for 3 seconds. I make SURE that the water tank has lots of water. I fill my reuseable K-pod, put my mug, press K and get a 12 oz. cup of nice strong boiling hot coffee. Between uses I disconnect the AC to the unit to save power and also, so that it can't overheat. QUESTION: Is the hose I disconnected to do with the air pump and the "ADD WATER" function? Again, THANKS A MILLION! Old Man Rob, in Canada, EH?
super helpful! thanks!
I'm glad I came across your video on the Keurig K Supreme. After watching your video and putting my Supreme back together and having it work, I do have a couple comments. First of all, your explanation of how the plumbing of the Supreme works had some incorrect info and mistakes in your video. The first issue I noticed was you were holding the water level device upside down. That device has a thermocouple sensor in it along with the probes to indicate water level is low. The second issue that would have been very useful would be to remove the electrical panel covering all that plumbing that you were trying to explain to show the routing of all those hoses. Your explanation of the water flow would have been much easier and would be of great benefit to anyone who removes those hoses and forgets how they go back together. Fortunately for me, with your general explanation, I was able to replace all my hoses on my machine and the Keurig worked when I had it completely assembled. Thank you for you videos. Please produce a more detailed water flow explanation with showing all tubing connections.
Our Keurig suddenly would not turn on and I figured there must be a reset switch, etc. I took the coffee maker apart as far as I could but could not get the outer cover off. I put the coffee maker back together and decided to see what I could find on the web and low and behold this video that demonstrated the whole procedure for correcting the issue and take the main cover off. Thank you so much, I pushed the reset and now I am enjoying another cup of coffee and relaxing after another good morning at the office(garage/repair shed).

The connector on the side of the water pump lets the computer verify the pump is rotating and not jammed, and the computer also likly uses it to measure the quanity of water delivered,.. I think it uses reads magnetic pulses from a revolving internal part with a hall effect sensor and the computer can read these pulses to determan the pump is running before it turns on the heater as a safety confirm so the heater is not switched on without water flow ..

Very cool video! Thanks! What I'd like to know is, how can you get such a rich, full cup of coffee with so little coffee in those tiny K-cups?
that rubber cover beneath the needles, is for pressure release in case you open the keurig while operating, so it doesnt squirt you in the face/body with steaming hot water.
That flap looks like a pressure release valve so you don't get sprayed if you open it under pressure. Thanks for the in depth vid!

The one I have is a K85 with the milk frothier attachment. It only uses one air pump and two outlet lines, one to the head needle and the other to the bottom of the k cup. Not sure what the bottom line does for the bottom of the k-cup? That bottom of the K cup has a needle as well to puncture the bottom. I think two hot water entry system, one from the top and the other to the bottom.
Extremely helpful and the comments assisted in the over temp reset. My unit was unused for months and after a descale I realized I was only pumping a ful cup when the water tank was full to the top 2/3erds. Any ideas? Maybe still need to descale? Also now my display goes dark after 1 second. I’m thinking the ribbon cable is loose or steamed/corroded after many short cups of hot water after descaling. Any ideas on how to check/clean the ribbon cable in the lid? Thanks in advance….

Maybe a clogged in line. blow some air through some of the pipes.
If you connected the two continuity wires then you would be able to use all the water in the tank, correct?
I had the issue where I was able to reset the heating element but it was not pumping water out. I tried different troubleshooting methods and finally narrowed it down to the pump, or the circuit board itself. Luckily I had a 12 volt battery. I connected some wires directly to the connector for the pump and the pump worked fine. I figured that this machine was toast and it was the circuit board that was bad. I put everything back together and decided to try and run it again. To my surprise, the machine started working. It’s almost like the pump was stuck and needed extra power in order for it to get going again.
Can the overtemperature thermostat be pulled off and replaced?
Black rubber flap under the lever/lid seems to be just a pressure release for when you abort a brew cycle before it is completed. So, the flap opens when you lift the lever to vent hot water in a safer way than through the needles (for less of a mess).

that would work I think
On the side of the water pump is actually a IR sensor, I'm guessing its used to measure water flow. I had an issue with a keurig k latte single serve where the lights where all on and pressing the power button would cause the air pump to run. After trying everything, I injected water using a syringe through the water pump into the system and that caused the machine to reset and start working again. The board does say IR sensor where that pcb on the side of the water pump plugs in. It seams the system would only start the pump after seeing water run through it but it would only push water through it if the pump was working, hence the need for the syringe to jump start the whole thing.

Slight difference between this and the supreme plus on the mother board. instead of a pressure probe connector on the mother board, there is a more robust bus box labelled "FPN-07PG" made in Japan. The issue I keep running into is the thermal sensor keeps needing to be depressed, and I'm wondering if it's connection to the heating coil has become degraded over time. The symptom each time during brew is the shutoff after the third dot on the HUD. I have probably reset that thermal sensor about five separate times now. I get it to work for about a month and then it seizes again. Real pain.
@JustADad

wow thanks for some really detailed information. have you been keeping up on the descaling?
@howawlyfalloookenhool7495
11 ай бұрын
@@JustADad yes and no. Unfortunately, the actual descale mode overheats the thermal sensor. I ran full descale mode and within two brews the following day, the auto-shutoff triggered on the third dot of the brew cycle. Ultimately, you end up with the descale HUD message never going away, but it's fine. I just manually descale every few months. I keep temp and strength settings minimal and will run about two 12oz "brews" of 1:1 water-white vinegar solution. After, I just unplug and leave alone, run clean water the next day to flush the vinegar and rinse. This pretty much prevents overheat.
It's now Jan 2024 and I've had my K Supreme for a year. Several months ago it stopped producing the volume assigned to each button, IE, 12oz➡️10oz; 10oz➡️8oz, etc. The deficient value is 2 oz at each setting. All needles have been cleaned multiple times; descaling performed multiple times; factory "reset" performed, deficient volume remains. Logic board vs bad pump vs ?? I found this video interesting as I thought there might be a needle assembly check valve as depicted for other units. Your disassembly of the needle assembly did not show such a valve. Is the line to the pressure transducer supposed to contain water as in your video or be open to atmospheric pressure?
Even it got 5 needles, it seems only the center one sprays the water. I saw that when using a reusable K-cup filter. However can anyone confirm?
Just to add, the thermostat or thingy IS RESSETABLE. Just insert tooth pick or paper clip in middle where you see that white circle with power off, then power on, done.
I just reset the thermostat this morning.

I bought the K supreme from BJ's club abought a year and a half ago and I bought another for a friend. Both were duds. I only use mine for iced tea and the water stream has always been very slow and less than what was selected. The descaler light comes on all the time. Descaling seems to have no effect. I can tell there is a blockage. I tried the paper clip on the needles, and they were not clogged. So, thanks to your video I took the cover off and started looking for the problem. Long story short, the clog is in the check valve which is built into the multi stream head which you cannot take apart to clean. I should be able to blow air though it and it was clogged up tight. I am soaking it in vinegar hoping it clears up. There was also a clear slime in the tube right at the check value. I think it's a poor design and they should have a recall on the unit.

The other 4 needles have the holes on the side, not on the bottom. You need to slide the black rubber (silicone?) sleeves/seals up to see them. They distribute the hot water better in the K-cups for a complete brew giving fuller taste.

The flap is a safety(?) to prevent hot water from shooting all over if, for some reason, the lid isn't fully closed.

Thanks so much for your support!! I really appreciate it so much!!!
Does the water actually come out of all 5 holes? 🤔 Or does it only come out of the classic center stream main one, and then spread across the top of a Kcup and possibly drip into the other 4 holes? I’m curious because the center spike is the only one that looks hollow, and like it can actually deliver water. The other 4 just look like solid hole punchers.

The bottoms of them are solid but just above a little bit (where the rubber washer type part is) they have holes in the sides of them that lets the water flow.
So the needles puncture the k cup. The what? How does the coffe come out clear. The water runs over the grounds then how does it filter the coffee and push it down to the cup?

After the needle puncture, water is forced through the K-cup under mild pressure. Hot water goes through the coffee, past a built-in filter and out into the coffee mug.
