I'm australian too, and what to really surprises me is the similarity in the terminology of our two games e.g. Positions (half back line etc.), selling the dummy, getting the crumbs, possetions etc.

Unfortunately a howler of a mistake by the Donegal keeper Paul Durcan ultimately cost Donegal that All Ireland. Easiest goal Kieran Donaghy ever got. Donegal didn't play well in the final, it was a poor final but at the same time were very unlucky not to get draw at end.

Seoirse Ui Duic True but let's be honest, the GAA sucks big time at promoting their game. Rugby, which is really boring, is playing a game here in the U.S. in front of 60,000 people. I know the GAA has a lot of potential but the GAA is not using it, which is why I don't want to pay them since their so inefficient when it comes to promotion, You're A German and I bet you would rather watch GAA than Bundesliga.

Hello! I am from Germany and I watched only one Gaelic football game ever live when it was broadcast in German television. Since then I'm looking for a possibility to watch this beautiful football game online for free but I just can't find anything. Most time I'm in the mood to watch Gaelic football it is not summer or autumn and it kinda seems that this sport is only played then, isn't it? And when this All-Ireland Championship is played I can't find any possibility to watch the games although I'd really like to. Still, association football is "my" sport, but I'd like to watch Gaelic football live sometime, so do you know how I can do it for free?

What would happen is that the soccer players would be forced to dribble because the gaelic players would shoulder the soccer players while they were stooping to pick up the ball which they would not be used to.When they drible they can be easily dispossessed. There are totally different games

Entertaining, but a lot of staging for free kicks. A Kerry player collapsed holding his face, staying down for a minute - replay showed the hand barely brushed his forehead! Quite a bit of that went on. Can be hard to get the ball back when a team leads late in the match and this needs fixing up. The legal one handed tackles are judged too harshly.

I'm Australian and just came back from the International Rules game in Perth today and was interested in how different Gaelic was from AFL. It seems much faster than Aussie Rules. From what I understand the round ball doesn't suit long-range kicking like our oval-shaped ball does, as seen by the free-kick at 46:30; that or you guys just suck at kicking. In which I'd recommend learning drop punting.Coming from a brutal sport such as AFL, it's funny watching the defenders just allowing the ball handlers through as tackling isn't allowed.

  • @huamiify

    @huamiify

    9 жыл бұрын

the round ball is far harder to kick long range than the oval Aussie rules ball. It's a lot heavier than a soccer ball for example. And you can tackle in GAA, it's just very hard to do a text book one, i.e shoulder to shoulder, so it's something that not many players do well or often

Unfortunately handballing as you call it has taken over and the standard of kicking has gone down. This hasn't happened to the same extent in AFL,because you have the mark. They tried to introduce the mark, but it was voted down in congress. The game is in a sad state at the moment and hurling is drawing bigger crowds which was not the case a few years ago. This particular game was like watching paint dry it was brutal.

***** Now and again there is talk of introducing an aussie rules tackle into gaelic. The difference is that in aussie rules you can run with the ball in hand for 10metres bounce the ball and run for another 10metres with ball in hand. The only way you can dispossess a player in that case is to tackle him to the ground, because you are unlikely to get the chance to knock the ball away.Gaelic is different you can only carry the ball in hand for four steps and after that its bounced or self kicked(solo) so you have ample opportunity to knock the ball away plus you can make him hold on to the ball to long which isnt allowed and get a free awarded to your team

Used to be a great game for it's pace and physical contest one on one. Now they can't even touch one another. The fight is lost. Commercial takeover. Diving!! At least 10 minutes pure referee frickin chat with players and his stupid little notebook. 'Cleaned up' the game to sell to Sky. Now there's more bickering less 1 on 1 duell. Dunno who is in charge of this gross value swap, but after a comma, fuck like, pay the guys proper and the two most sponsored teams might actually have some competition. Oh... wait... reminds me of a thought I once had about laundering money. China are really trying to get in on this Soccer ways like the recent transfer brokers have. GAA is of course a little behind. Not even realising that everyone is turning off.

mohamed ahmedThey are several reasons. One is the ethos of the governing body the GAA which believes people should play sport for the enjoyment and the pride of the local community they belong to .Players no matter how good they are play for the club or county they are born into or living in.There is a fear that the connection with the community would be lost if it went professional. The other reason is while the sport attracts large crowds its only played seriously in ireland which has a tiny population and they really isn't a big enough market for a fully professional league consequently there isn't much support among the players for a proffesionalism yet any way

+mohamed ahmed the same way you do they work at normal jobs usually full time jobs such as teachers solicitors accountants bank oficials plasterers and plumbers. Then in the evenings they train usually every evening. They get expenses for travelling to training which can be as much as 3hours round trip.Top players can make money from product endorsements, but pay for play is not allowed.

Adrian Hegarty It would be much easier for a soccer player to adapt to gaelic, than for a gaelic player to adapt to pure soccer, because good dribbling and foot pass ability are much more advanced skills than running with the ball in your hands. Case closed.

Henry14arsenal2007 You can only run with the ball for 4 steps after that you can bounce the ball, but not twice in a row after that you can take another 4 steps or you can self kick the ball to your self in action known as the solo run which you can do all the time. Also you can't move the ball from one hand to another and you can't throw the ball it must be passed with the fist or open hand strike. You can't pick the ball directly off the ground you must do it with the aid of the foot .Think you can remember all that.

I've seen the Irish soccer team play on TV, none of them could dribble, they could hardly put one foot before the other without tripping over themselves. Most of them were English!

Thurman Merman Ya your right very few modern players can dribble.Once a team scores as the result of a shemozzle at goal usually they can defend all day hoofing the ball into the stand.Even with gaelic being ruined by blanket defence you still have to score.

Henry14arsenal2007 Nah, you're talking through your hoop mate. I've played both and I can tell you that it's a lot harder to solo at speed with fellas hurtling into you than in a game where you dribble a lighter football on the floor, and win a free by falling down.

Really disturbing to see these people so close together in the crowd and acting so irresponsibly. How many people died after this? Thank GOD we will never go back to this diease superspreader events. Stay home, wear at least 2 masks, only go on essential journeys. Stay safe, let's protect our lives and the lives of granny and grandad. Wash your hands.

What's even more disturbing is idiots like you don't realize this took place nearly 7 years ago...lol. I think you've been wearing 2 masks for too long; your brain is clearly oxygen deprived!
