    glad he mentioned Metallica, no offense to kerry hes a riff weapon, but everyone was freaked by the in human riffs that came out James on a melodic and rememberable level, let alone songs like Damage Inc, Fight Fire with Fire, and Dyers Eve that destroyed most thrash and anything fast at the time, it took until past AJFA for other bands to make speed sound good, in my opinion Hetfield will always be the true riff God.

    Kerry is proof positive that sometimes a riff is harder to play than a solo. He does not write the best solos by any means but his sound is undeniable. 2 secs into a Kerry solo and you know it is him. Anyone that makes fun of his playing ability has no clue about guitar. Prob THE tightest rhythm player in metal, next to Hetfield.

  • @TinS0lder

    @TinS0lder

    5 жыл бұрын

    Big Dawg You are asking the wrong question. Jeff was better then Kerry when it comes to playing technical guitar, Jeff also, like most amazing metal bands, was based in punk and not metal. So you have these two titans clashing in two types of music making a harmony that you know as slayer. Kerry on the other hand without a doubt is a powerhouse of thrash metal. If you don't know what that means. Kerry can player amazingly fast for hours on end without straining his ability to play. Think about it like this, while Kerry is belting out the riff at amazing speeds, Jeff would take it for a walk, move some stuff around and bring it back. Slayer died with Jeff. Without the push and pull you will never have the anxiety that you got from previous slayer. Don't ever for a second discount Kerry as a amazing guitarist. The difference is Kerry is a run away freight and Jeff was the insane conductor pushing it more out of control with his riffs.

    Smart dude, as a drummer everything he said can be applied to every instrument. I agree, hard copies of Albums, CD's and Cassettes should comeback. Reason is if the record company and artists want to recoup their $$$ they've lost due to streaming and the patronage of older music fans still out there that used to buy them plus introduce new fans to albums and CD's would be a boom. Not only would that financial benefit the record companies and bands to make $$ but also record stores, record pressing, supply chain of vinyl, pressing equipment, CD printing, art work and home electronics like CD/cassette/record players. I still believe if these kids of today could get that reintroduction of hard copies that they would love music even more. Great little interview.

    King is a cool guitarist who has a small window of skill which is enough for what he loves doing. Hanneman had more melody and feel but King had these cool "meltdown" stuff like the glorious second lead on South Of Heaven's "Ghosts Of War"(1:34 - 1:52 on the record). The life version from 08/31/1988(here on youtube) sounds even crazier - like the guitar eating itself. Given some guidance, e.g. on the Seasons In The Abyss record, he put together remarkable leads - especially on "War Ensemble" and "Skeletons Of Society". And last but not least - in his prime he was Metal impersonate... no one hammered riffs as unforgiving as King... a pivotal figurehead of nuclear powered dissonance.

    I am a true Slayer fan. I fucking love the inspiration you have given me, and my band, I still love the rawness of Slayer. if it weren't for Slayer nobody would have had the balls to put out music that heavy. fuc listen to haunting the chapel and realize how fucking heavy that was then look at the year it was put out. just throwing out some love for Slayer.. how long could you last in this underwater burial fuck yeah

    Everytime I hear an old school musician, say there isnt fresh talent out there.. it gets me kind of upset, but maybe they just haven't had the time to listen to them.. 2 very good bands come to me that I got into recently.. that sound unique to me in a way. Revocation and Beyond Creation.. I know there's more, but I also don't have that much free time to discover new bands.. and this is coming from old school thrash fan..

    Plenty of guitar hero's have surfaced in the last 15 years, just that the record industry no longer has the power to put them on a pedestal. What about Paul Wardingham, Per Nelson, Plini, so many more as well...

    Rain in blood is what people talk about is because it was the best thing slayer ever did period. The first 2 were good but couldn't hold a flame to rain. The beastie boys thing was Rick marketing both bands to each others fans. Kerry king needs to make dance music riffs and drum beats.

    I played B.C. Rich. Actually my first guitar and bass were BC. I had a very negative experience with the instruments and the company and made a move to a different brand. Its different when a mass market builder is making one for an Icon than when a kid or whoever is spending their own money on a product. The maker that I eventually came to has never let a single issue go unanswered or a problem unaddressed. I still love the BC Rich.....but in someone elses hands. 👿☠

    The only shit guitars were when it was out of Bernie's hands, he bought it back in the early 90s because he was not happy with what was happening to the brands reputation and build quality. Otherwise, they were all licenced by class axe or in different owners hands when all the cheaper models flooded the market. But still, you get what you pay for and there is a big difference between a custom bc rich for $4000+ and a base model platinum or whatever for $200 or so!
