Kenyan annual Finance Bill sparks unrest • FRANCE 24 English
The Kenyan government published its annual Finance Bill on Saturday - it wants to raise an additional 2.2 billion euros in taxes in the financial year that starts in July. The tax hikes are part of a series of financial measures introduced by President William Ruto to fund its extensive infrastructure and social programmes. Where's the unrest? Citizens are actively debating and criticising the bill. You know where you can find unrest.... On an island at the Pacific 😉

Problem is no infrastructure is being built. To be honest, things seem to be just falling apart. give more taxes, get less services
Go sit with him and ask him hard questions like, "Why are you looting poor people"?
We're very upset! Corruption
True unfortunately
Kenyans are living hand to mouth..paycheck to paycheck..It's a sorry state of affairs because of high taxes despite no increase in income
I am kenyan, but this looks like : " hey, look even africans are raising their taxes"

Too many tribes in small area, everyone must step in others head and grab push n fight. Too many tribes fighting for power n wealth is one of problems of Africa

The problem is not you paying taxes. Consider those people earning 500 a day and they're the majority. How are they going to survive when ruto has increased their breakfast spending to almost 150 so that they can afford chai na mkate? This government rallied on hustler slogan and now the hustlers are paying the biggest price. There's no service delivery. They stealing everything

@@vand922 eat alternatives. I mean there's a reason he taxed bread and not wheat. Make pancakes. Eat sweet potatoes. Make mahamri. Doesn't matter. Plus what are they stealing. You can't call someone a thief without proof yk.

@@kipchumba26 the problem with you is being tribal. Ruto is the president. There's no need of defending him while you're experiencing his leadership. If someone can't afford bread how do you expect him to cook pancakes mahamri? If you're capable of eating all you mentioned you should know that not all are capable. Kenyans are suffering and that's a fact. Tell me with all the taxes he has raised, what project has he launched or what road has he built? Ruto is the worst president Kenya has had if he continues to oppress the hustlers

@@vand922 I'm not tribal. I am logical. I don't vote based on tribe. The main reason I voted for Ruto is because I liked his privatization agenda. The main reason I didn't vote for Odinga is because he runs the gas business and we are being exploited in that sector hence I can't trust him. Plus he is predictable. Samia tries to export taifa gas to us and all of a sudden he creates protests and demands private meeting and the taifa gas project is killed. He is not the type of leader I can trust. We should buy gas at a fair International average price and I might consider him.
