Both of the tow trucks were custom built by Petersen Northwest. The truck with no sleeper is truck 101 and is a Century Rotator and the truck with the sleeper is truck 105C. Pete's tows a lot of the Factory trucks and all their big trucks are Kenworths. They have 2 very nice old A models as well, one of them (a 79 Centennial edition) is still in every day service.

Very similar to the Pacific P-12 Roughneck. As Pacific no longer builds trucks it's nice to see someone else building a custom order truck for a specific application.

NO it isn't, for a supposed off road truck it hasn't enough rear suspension travel to be effective, it's tires will be useless on anything even remotely soft, as the majority of US trucks are all about BHP the torque will be unusable off road, a 1950' s Soviet truck would quickly make that look extremely useless. I spent many years driving big off road trucks & this Kenwort is as about as useless as it gets A full walking beam rear suspension system,.less BHP with more accessible torque would improve it no end, as for those invalid carriage tires= zero traction off road, they may work on a tinder dry flat field, anything wet or serious NO CHANCE of traction

  • @KrisKringle2

@@Andrea-B-65-UKOilfield trucks probably don't need a lot of suspension travel. Any of the big Army prototype tank transporters from the T26 to the T58 would drag those Soviet trucks backwards. Soviets didn't even develop indigenous trucks until the 50's of any repute. All Fords, Diamond Ts, and Pacifics.

@@KrisKringle2 I would pit any Soviet 8x8 against any US 8x8 in some seriously challenging off road conditions with plenty of deep mud large rocks & 2 in 1 hills I guarantee that the Soviet tucks would seriously outperform the US trucks Modern US military trucks are primarily designed to have a good on road speed & handling, Soviet trucks are designed solely for off road performance. US military trucks will easily reach around 60mph Soviet military trucks will struggle to reach 35 mph, some won't even get over 25mph Unlike US military trucks, Soviet military trucks are designed to give torque priority over BHP, not forgetting the vastly superior off road suspension with huge wheel travel & axle articulation, something that US military trucks are seriously lacking I've driven both Soviet & US military trucks in seriously nasty off road conditions & the US trucks are no better than the average SUV off road, the Soviet trucks were always being used to recover them from non to arduous terrain, the old WW2 GMC 6x6's are much better off road than more recent US military truck offerings

These were far larger and more powerful than M-26 Dragon wagons, M123s, M911s, M1070s, HEMMTs. They outperformed tanks in mud pits. Lampson uses a custom built Kenworth for moving long heavy things like conveyor belts. Looks normal until you stand next to it. 5' tires & extra ground clearance & remote steer dolly. Of course it's blue like all their equipment. Check out the transporters they build. 4 Detroit Diesels, tracks that are 6' wide, about 30' long & 4' tall. It takes 3 rigs to bring it in & can lift & drive away with a 7 story tall crusher unit. Really something to see.
