What a lovely radio. I will be moving to Italy in September and will be looking to get a suitable HF radio. This is top of my list at the moment. I love the old school look and super het. 73 de G0LQP

I’ve just obtained a used one a few hours ago, and am very impressed so far. The real ‘wow’ moment for me so far (simple though it seems!) has been the complete elimination of some pulse type interference on some bands from somewhere very close by, which had otherwise been a nightmare on other radio equipment, necessitating the use of an external QRM eliminator.

Funny, I considered many times changing the color of my TS570SG display but after using it heavily I found the original amber display is actually the most readable. While I like green, every green display I have seen has lower contrast than the original amber color and you just proved that to be true on the 590 also.

One of the best rigs for the money, if not the best, great TX and RX audio, 590SG rejects noise better than the IC7300 and a lot of the radios on the market, to name a few, FT950, FT-1000 and 2000, FT991, FtDX-5000D, FtDX-1200 and 3000, all of the IC756PRO series, IC7000, IC7100, IC7410, IC7600.

@george s. Yes I do think it's receiver is a little better in the real world but it's the functionality of the radio and build that impresses me. The 1200 feels a lesser radio but there's not a lot in it. They are both very good rigs. 73 de m0wbk

@@133Gordini Can you help, please? I've just got myself a new TS-590SG & I'm pretty happy with it. With RF gain on FM mode, though, I'm finding it doesn't attenuate signals at all. It only cuts them off completely when wound fully CCW. Do you know how to get this to operate normally, please?

All radio's are great if you can afford to change or upgrade them. I have no problem with my Yaesu FT 920 dsp it's served me well since 1997. Pity now days that the airwaves are not used like they used to be. Nice video, from M0BCW.

Thanks a lot for share your experience with all us (ham radio around world)... I have read some comments and question for you...and I'd like to repeat one them (if you let me)...after using TS590SG....would you say radio's reception is better than Yaesu Dx1200?...many of us always bring "tech" ideas...about same antenna, cable, weather......my question is more personally ...do you feel 590SG has better reception than 1200?....Thanks in advance for your polite answer

I am currently studying for my Foundation. I think this *might* be my first transceiver; for sure it isn't as whizzy as some I have looked at (ICOM 7300 I'm looking at you), but I get the sense that it does what it does very well and that's good enough for me :)

Thanks for your comment John. The 590 has a superb receiver and audio quality is great as with most Kenwood radios. You can’t go wrong with one of these. The Icom is also a great little rig. The choice is yours but I would go Kenwood. 73

@@133Gordini Hi! Just revisiting this. I got my Foundation licence (M7JHA) in November 2019 and bought an IC9700. Got the Intermediate licence a month ago or so (2E0SVB). Still haven't bought an HF rig; can't make my blooming mind up! I hope you're well, 73s. John

Hi, just revisiting this again. Around a year ago, I bought one of the last Yaesu FTDX5000MP in the UK. It's an amazing rig and I love it. I still love the look of the TS590SG and TS890S though.

It may seem frivolous, but one feature I would like to see added to transceivers is an additional mic jack on the back of the receiver, so the operator can have his/her choice of where to plug in the microphone. Some desks have little room on them so the mic cable coming out the front can get in the way of what you're doing. Like I said, it may seem frivolous but it would be a nice addition to have that choice.

Ok thanks for info... IMO the TS-590SG is a great rig for semi portable (or in the field) operation. I am aware it is a very smart receiver but I doubt I can live with such a small box in my shack. I had a TS-450SAT in the past and the size is the same. I found the TS-450SAT to be a great analog radio but it was to tiny for me, I sold it unfortunately. I am afraid it will be the same with the TS-590SG. By the way, if I had to buy a rig tomorrow, it'll be the IC-7410. Cheers, Eric.

Hello sir. Did you switch from the FTdx-1200 to the TS-590SG just because it's always exciting to learn how to use a new radio... Or just because the TS-590SG has better "numbers" from the ARRL QST review ? I am in the market for a new "little" base rig, I hesitate between FTdx-1200, TS-590SG and the lovely IC-7410, thanks for your time. 73, Eric de ON6CV. Best KZread video about the SG by the way.

M0WBK Reviews Hi Wayne, maybe another stupid question from me. Are the rectangular keys on the TS-590 made from hard plastic or soft rubber like those on the K3 or the Sinclair ZX Spectrum back in the days ? With the time, soft rubber keys suffers from bad contact so you have to push 2 or 3 times the same button. I really prefer hard plastic keys. Thanks for answer, 73 de ON6CV.
