    This wasn't an unfair matchup Kentucky was a 8 seed they played like trash during the season and deserve the seed that they got. For my money, the best game of the entire 2014 tournament. Like watching a heavyweight fight with both fighters immediately giving right back just as good as they'd just taken all game long. Whether you were a Kentucky fan or not, there's no denying their run to the title game defeating Louisville, Michigan, & Wisconsin all in nail biters were also among some of the tournament's best games. But this game from the opening tip seemed to have a really special kind of aura surrounding it for both teams. It's just a shame this game was played in the round of 32 instead of as a regional final or a Final Four type game, because that's what it really seemed like to me anyway.

    What a game. It was honestly an unfair matchup for Wichita going against one of the best 8-seeds of all-time, and everybody knew it. 2 amazing teams that happened to meet in the round of 32. Early could not be stopped. Ron Baker with 20 points and Van Vleet (who is making $43M/yr today, holy moly) some big assists and steals. But this Kentucky team was extremely well balanced despite really only being 7-deep. The Harrison twins came up huge in this one and the team made clutch FT's down the stretch. Julius Randle was and still is an absolute bull of a player. I didn't plan on watching this tonight but I watched the whole thing haha.

    Why Kentucky was the #8 seed in Wichita State's bracket (my thoughts)? 1. Kentucky by region was less than 200 miles away from Indianapolis (Midwest Region) 2. Wichita St played one SEC team during their 34-0 season (Tennessee) and by coincidence, the selection committee could match up teams with opponents from a conference they faced in non-conference play. 3. In the preseason, a lot of people were obsessively focused on Kentucky's size, athleticism and individual talent to where some thought they could dominate the regular season on that alone. Since Wichita St went undefeated, the committee added a wrinkle in their bracket to see if they could handle a tall and strong team such as UK. 4. In 2012, Wichita St was the #5 seed in Kentucky's bracket (South Region) and sometimes the committee depending on seeding could make some matchups happen sooner or later than in past brackets.

    Watch the final play, the side line out of bounds. Cleanthony Early was going to be wide open for a lob at the rim, but Marshall drew up a play for him to fade back out for some reason. Had the play been for Early to cut hard to the rim, they likely would've tied the game and gone to OT. I was rooting for UK as I picked them in my bracket here, but re-watching this, UK was extremely luck that Marshall drew the play the way he did.

  • @251to502

    @251to502

    Coach Nick of BBALLBREAKDOWN mentioned that sequence, noting how Early cut across made him look like a decoy. He also stated that the pass was a bit late and that it should have been made to where Vanvleet could have caught it at the three point line. How it was released allowed the defense (specifically Willie Cauley-Stein) to harass Vanvleet into the game ending miss.
