defense is Kentucky’s main problem and will be their downfall. Kentucky has played 23 games, and in 20 of those games they allowed over 70 points. 6 of those 20 games were losses. They flat out don’t play defense.

Our bigs are embarrassing and it won’t get better. They get dominated down low and they don’t like getting physical. Cal switches our lineups like crazy instead of playing the best lineup to win. He throws Edwards in the mix and he brings nothing to the table at all. Cal always feels sorry for these kids who are big recruits even though they kill us. Cal hasn’t changed anything since 2010 and cal won’t change ever.

To be honest what’s hurting Kentucky is the line up change we can’t play 2 bigs. Ever since our bigs came back we been bad. Plus for the ❤of God why are we resting our players this has cost us the last 3 years. Finally, this Rob thing is not the problem we played him the last 2 home games and lost.

Dillingham only played 4 min the 2nd half, we only played Sheppard, reeves & Dillingham together for 1:30 the entire game. They scored 50 points n the paint, they scored 9 straight plays in a row. We can’t stop anyone on D. We’re not a lob team, that last play call was aweful.

Zag fan here, been a subscriber for a few years but somehow didn't realize you were a Kentucky fan. @2:16 That play was very puzzling to me as well, so I rewatched the replay a bunch of times to try to figure out what happened. I listened to Coach Cal's postgame and his answer to the question about that play at the end... Sheppard was supposed to kick it to Reeves flashing at the top of the key if the lob wasn't there... even the announcers said it was going to happen because they must have heard the huddle... but Reeves never went to the top of the key for some reason? But, I also don't get the play call in the first place - Sheppard already had 21 points that half, have him drive and attempt a shot against Hickman and, even if he misses, it will attract more attention from Gregg and give Thiero a better chance at another putback dunk from the weak side. Sheppard was lighting up on dribble drives against Hickman in the 2nd half and even better if you could get Nembhard to switch onto him. Even more weird though, the play would have worked if Justin Edwards hadn't given up on his screen on Gregg. Or if Onyenso had kept his screen on Gregg or re-screened Gregg. Two guys with one most important job of keeping Gregg away from the rim and it looks like they both thought the other one would take care of that. Re: Rob Dillingham... the biggest problem was Kentucky not having bigs that could defend Ike, Huff, or even Watson one on one in the post. Who do you take out to put in Rob Dillingham? Not Sheppard, he was on fire coming out of halftime when you were down 10 and roared to a 6 point lead. Not Reeves, he's your leading scorer and not having a bad game. That leaves 3 starters 6'8" or taller to pick from to replace with a 6'3" scorer in a game you end up scoring 85 points in, when you're leading country in PPG with 87. So I get when people say this team has "too much talent" because the best 4 players seem to be 3 guards and Tre Mitchell, who couldn't play. For what it's worth, in the Gonzaga postgame, Few and the players said they did their prep work assuming Tre Mitchell would play and be the biggest challenge as an "x-factor". I will say that Kentucky's defensive tactics at the start of the game were weirdly... non-sensical. One early play in particular stuck out as just completely wrong: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4iE3JaSfdrdmto.htmlsi=zkMB07FNfhpymAKe&t=121 Iso play for Watson, 3 on the perimeter vacate to the other side of the court so no one can sag down onto Watson's front as he backs down... Onyenso... doubles off of Ike in the post to try to trap Watson? That makes no sense. It just stuck out as something even the worst WCC teams would never do, certainly not in the first minute of the game as a Plan A. Zags did something similar against the Duke team with Zion first play out of half-time: kzread.info/dash/bejne/moGdx9qCmdmpZ9o.html The differences are important, though. Zion couldn't guard Hachimura one on one in the first half, Gonzaga knew Duke would come out of halftime trying to double him, the guards (who were much better 3 point threats than who we have this year) can go to Rui's side of the court and bait the double off of Clarke for the easy two. It was a clever trick play based on predicting halftime adjustments, and Barrett almost sniffed it out in time. But with the Kentucky version... even if you wanted to double off of Ike, which you shouldn't... there are 3 other people on Ike's side of the court that could switch off of Hickman (37% from 3), Gregg (34% from 3), or Nembhard (29% from 3). And then, in the post game, Calipari said they thought they could defend Gonzaga 1 on 1 in the post but should have trapped more... but this play was 1 minute into the game so it was clearly part of the gameplan to trap Watson and it failed miserably... @5:45 An underrated aspect of coaching is going back to the same thing if it's working and just doing the same thing again and again and making the other team try to deal with it. The Phil Jackson Lakers were especially ruthless about this.

They needed robs scoring and Cal played him 4 minutes in the second half. Smh. I know he isn't the best defender, but he is the best scorer, he was starting to get rolling and gets benched for defense. Its coaching, love cal and he has his reasons for doing things, but rob should have atleast been in the last few minutes.

Ecstatic about the young, one and done system when there are titles and Final Fours yet appalled at not having experienced juniors, seniors and grad transfers when losses prior to Final Four occur. Primarily a fan base comprised of high school educated white men who live vicariously through the accomplishments of teenage boys. Your ad hominem attack on Z is prime example. Below the belt. Characterless. But unfortunately, it is typical.

Reed can play but right now he’s a undersized SG. Cal and pops is trying to Rush him to the NBA. Only Rob and Reeves is ready. Politricks man. At this point Cal needs to give Rob the keys and get the hell out the way!! Rob will take them all the way but Cal has to realize he has A mega superstar, whose game is bigger than his ego and can save his job.
