Kensun 55w 6000k HID Install w/ Relay

Installing the Kensun 55w HID kit on my Hyundai Elantra. These bulbs seem to be brighter than stock but not wowing like I thought. Pretty close to a "pure" white as well. If you want more blue go 8000k.

Found this video from a forum. So I ordered the HID / LED “warning cancelers” off Amazon... hoping that fixes my issue.. they work great with engine off but don’t work with the engine on.. (flicker and go out like you said) Thanks for the video man. Very helpful.

I would recommend checking out my latest HID install. Much easier to install and works without harness or cancelers. Only issue I am still trying to figure out is slight light scatter which I think has something to do with the bulbs themselves.

I got the same ones for my truck but the harnesses I have don't work won't turn them on or nothing I've had hids in low beams before, as you said they flicker and go out "before you had the harness" mine did that too, ordered the kensun hids relay harness without the resisters mine worked well without them, just the relay. could it be different manufacturers wire the harnesses differently? I still don't understand it. why my original ones I had before don't work "relay harnesses I had in previous hids"

The 5000k h9 high beam bulbs match my 4300k low beams. and the other h11 5000k bulbs for my fogs and lows were so blue, had to be like 8000k or 10000k. the h11 lows I bought were 4300k and is the only set that was correct.

  • @JustinKelly

Because of the Canbus system in newer cars. It will sense that something is not quite right and turn power off to the headlights. The wiring with resistors tricks the computer into thinking everything is normal and also supplies the HID's with power from the battery. Stay tuned I should have a plug and play solution coming!

+Gezim Asanoski Fiund this thread, pretty interesting! www.civicx.com/threads/4500k-hid-on-low-beam-clear-white.1085/ Looks like you can use the factory wiring so no need for a relay. People on here also said about 5000k bulbs matched the LED DRL well but another went with a much bluer bulb, all personal preference. You should be fine with a 55w kit as the only difference is the ballast which supplies the power.

Resistors help to stabilize the power and gets rid of any flicker (If you have any). You can buy either harness, one with and one without. If you need a harness you should look to see if you need one with the resistors before ordering, usually the forums can answer that question otherwise I would ask a professional. I mounted mine on the side, on metal! do not mount on plastic or other surface besides metal!

Would I have to buy a resistor or can I use the relay that comes with it?

jay lee Depends on your car. Some work great with stock wires, others need the harness. I would try looking online to see if people have tried HID's in your car.

    I have a Mazda cx-3, do I need a relay?

+JERCHROME From quick searching on the internet, yes you will. Even if you don't it will not hurt anything and you can always test before installing the harness and if they flicker or go out you need it.

how much amps? 40? I plan on using 55W ballast with 6k bulbs. It seems to have more light output from my research.

JERCHROME No not even close typically 55w HID's use about 10-12 amps to "ignite" then shortly after run at about 5 amps. Less than factory Halogen bulbs.

+JERCHROME Any really should work that has the with connectors. If you going with Kensun brand just buy their relay but some cars require the relay with resistors as well.

Terry Mustard It isn't an issue but is more like a byproduct of more resistance in a circuit. Nothing can be done when adding resistors in this regard just mount to metal and you will be fine.

Justin, try to get your work closer to the middle of the frame on your camera....when you were routing the wires thru the dust-cap hole - half of your hand was out of the picture......
