Helpful tutorial. Unfortunately, it's 's a crappy game. I fell for the fake reviews on steam and hypes. First, you can't look around using your mouse. You have to hold shift to look around or holding the w and e key. That alone completely ruined the game for a simple sand box game. Second, there is no quest. I get it, the game want you to created your own adventure. Guess I want to do first? Stealing. Got caught with nobody around. So stupid mechanic lol. Third, graphic looks like poop. This explain why we can't tell between a rock and ore. I came from Atomic Heart. Playing this game downgrade my enjoyment. It's created stress instead by figuring why it's so hard to look around using the mouse. Update The no quest part is either lazy on the developer part or they want us all to become criminals. This game is the only game that make me feel depressed. I'm trap in an empty town that have nothing to do. Stealing get you beat up. Going out to a vast world of emptiness. I wonder if all the positive reviews are fake, created by the developers. They spend all their time writing a review instead of inventing quests for us 😅

@@condorX2 Which do you imagine is more likely? A tiny company in Bristol with 5 members, but only one until the last couple of years before release, has the time to generate thousands and thousands of hours of KZread content, write thousands of reviews and create thousands of steam profiles many of which have hundreds of games? Or could it be that you have the attention span of a goldfish and lacked the patience to experience an extraordinarily detailed game that is so immensely popular that people still update guides years after release?

@@osric1730 nice post xD I have a question. How many times have you died from Kenshi ?
@osric1730
Жыл бұрын
@@condorX2 If you mean how many times have I died in Kenshi the answer is very very few after the first couple of attempts. You start the game as a puny nobody, once you grasp that fact and behave accordingly the game is not difficult. Its the whole point of the game that you start as the weakest most puny character in the game that can be mauled to death by a goat, and you crawl out of the dust and build yourself and your party into an army, then a town, then an empire. I like to start with a character with one leg. You're supposed to take a beating, every time you get stomped on you get a little stronger. In fact an early step is to find someone weak enough to beat you up without killing you. The game requires patience, ingenuity, persistence and a sense of humor. You're not supposed to spawn in and imagine you're a master thief, walk out with a broadsword and kick ass. Its not a game designed to make a dweeb in his mother's basement feel like a superhero. And that is what makes it all the sweeter when you no longer have to run from the weakest NPCs in the game. Its janky and has outdated graphics because the dev worked for years and years alone to produce an absolutely unique game, and people love it because of the depth and complex interlocking systems that generate bizarre and sometimes hilarious outcomes. The result is something between Rimworld and Mount and Blade that's given me over 500 hours of fun. 60,000 people voted it overwhelmingly positive for a reason. If you don't get it that must be because 60,000 other people are stupid and you're the genius with instantaneous clarity, right? Or maybe its the other way round?

Happy to help!
outside the hub, there are 3 easy to reach full copper, 2 small copper, 4 full iron and at least 2 small iron nodes. if you're mining in the hub, buy a shack or two, and put iron & copper storage inside them. when mining within range of a storage, your characters will automatically haul to the storage when the resource's storage fills. means you can mine 100 (or more with mods) per storage without having to pay too much attention or sell every 10 ore or so.
@davidaward82
Жыл бұрын
also, for more combat oriented players, a sneaky trick at the start in the hub is to go into sneak mode in the inn and purposefully fail a KO attempt against the 'bar thug'. they are the only member of their faction in the town, and when they defend themselves, it is they, not you who 'starts' the combat, meaning the guards will knock them out pretty fast, so all you have to do is run upstairs after they attack then loot them when the guards dump them outside. their kit isn't great, but it's a massive step up from your starting kit, unless you are going full stealth.
@kurisechan88

For me, the moment I stop paying attention to the game something awful happens to my team
@davidaward82
7 ай бұрын
@@kurisechan88 oh for sure, at the start, your team is basically a bunch of less than nobodies... in the hub, getting a couple of shacks up, one for ore stores and the other so you can do basic research. Get some simple kit from the bar/shinobi and you'll be able to survive most hungry/dust raids (running back inside the bar can be a lifesaver, but be warned, barmen are utterly fearless in kenshi.) just be careful not to aggro the slavers when they patrol through the area (of note, both slavemongers and nomads will appear at the hub, so wounded bandits will be cleared up pretty often and there's plenty of opportunity for trade)
Not stressing about your base building might be the single most useful advice on this vid. Good stuff
A tip for new players of my own: training athletics early on will help a lot. The ability to outrun enemies is one of the most useful things in Kenshi. How do you train this? Just grab a bit of food at your local bar and explore the world! Try to go from town to town, that way there is always somewhere you can run towards in case you get into trouble. Avoid ruins for now, you can get back to them later, preferably when you have a base that can store the loot
Bought the game today during the summer sale. I've watched kenshi content and was interested but saw playing as overwhelming. This guide game me the confidence to give it a go and I love it. Thank you taking the time to put this together

I love making characters in this game and that’s it lol I’m currently playing Morrowind for the first time and it scratches every itch that this game can’t scratch. I’m sorry but every start in this game gimps you so hard that it is not possible to kill anything in a 1v1 without grinding stats or using exploits
Isn't it funny how many new people keep coming? Makes me very excited for Kenshi 2. Just sent this vid to a friend.

That's because they have an amazing concept with not perfect execution. If they can nail down the game play a bit more in 2 then that game could be amazing.
@cirkleobserver3217

Totally agree, the concept is entirely novel. Combines elements of sandbox rpg, simulation, and colony building but feels very unique. So far my favorite way to describe it as as a western gang/posse simulator. You control a crew of ruffians in a rough world, and under ideal circumstances have everyone doing different tasks at once. The game engine isn’t quite there to fully realize it, it works just well enough to give you a taste.

There is a thing to add for base defenses. Not sure about the other tiers, but I noticed that some higher tier walls, specifically defensive IV, to lesser extent III have some issues positioning of gunners. Sometimes, when you load the game, the gunners will be at the bottom of the walls - so always check after loading. Higher tier defensive walls give you better damage bonus for turrets due to height advantage, but they are also considerably more janky in how they handle firing angles - they are fairly prone to friendly fire incidents. Basically - you should probably avoid putting a long line of turrets without any break - put turrets every second slot if you can help it. Placing a watchtower also helps - the overhang of a watchtower makes for a good firing position and seems to not produce problems with friendly fire - and is very tall, for amazing bonus. A U-shaped gateway is good, but for the reasons of friendly fire shape may work better. Another thing to consider - make double gates, if you can afford the space. Enemies bunching up at the gate may literally clip through it.
@Arbaaltheundefeated
Жыл бұрын
I've actually been treating the gate clipping as a roleplay feature in my head. When I have to deal with a horde of cannibals or fogmen or shriekers or whatever it might be, who are typically the ones to arrive in such numbers that their physics get janky, I imagine the occasional clipping through as representing some of them managing to climb over or pry open some small structural flaw to squeeze through. Kind of how I imagine a 'horde' attack like that would go down, they wouldn't realistically just stand there hitting your gatehouse with clubs, they'd be trying to climb your defences, maybe even have some things to help with that like primitive grappling hooks or ladders. Of course it's not meant to represent that nor is it visually rendered, but I feel it makes sense that you have to account for "some" enemies to make it into your base even if the gate holds when you're under serious attack. So it doesn't bother me that much. ☺
@Waroftheworldsz
Жыл бұрын
During one of my base playthroughs I basically made a base with two sets of walls, three gates and more than enough buildings in the center of the town. Basically a castle with more interior walls. This seemed to help the most because enemy raids will attack the front gate which basically led into a tunnel where the second gate was. The walls making up that tunnel pretty much had their own set of turret guards that would shoot everything in that tunnel before they broke through the second gate. If they broke through the second gate It wasn’t too much of a concern because I sealed off most of my workers behind the third gate. I usually had a handful of dedicated soldiers that stood next to the second gate in the event of an attack. So by the time they broke through the second gate it was usually less than ten guys that could be mopped up easily. Since I started this base near the Swamps the Holy Nation attacked pretty regularly and since I was farming Hemp for Hash production Raptors were also a nuisance. But they never made it past the second gate.

Started a solo rock bottom run with my scorchlander “Splice” after getting out of UC territory Splice came across a nice tech hunter waypoint with a bar, general goods store and a broken tower for $21K. Managed to rat my way into getting a left arm Masterwork Skelton implant and a few 5 finger discount weapons that have been really good early game. Currently on research station 3 and have a couple of slaves that have the honor of getting beat into a smoothie every couple of days, life is good.
I will say base building is definitely not late game. Its a lot easier end game, but i have never had much trouble starting a base ASAP, before hiring extra people or training literally anything. You just cant build a base in a place you couldn't survive in usually. You can easily set up a base outside The Hub to grow your own food and set up a weapon producing industry to train a blacksmith. I never purchase a weapon in the game because it really is so easy to make your own from the start.
Thanks, needed a refresher after a few years not playing.

57:45 This honestly, I was playing a skeleton character and I tried building my base close to Squin because I really wanted to make sure I had the Shek as neighbors since they didn't give a crap about me being a robot (that and their city had some good shops for my character, heavy weapons, an armorer, bars, a trade store and a travel store). What I didn't anticipate was just how close to Holy Empire territory I was building, a couple of ingame weeks after I finished building my outpost I saw "Prayer Day" and at the time I knew the holy Empire attacked skeletons on sight so I literally got inside my house and locked my doors and tried to wait them out. Then, they left. About an ingame month passes and I see Holy Empire Assault, and I go into panic mode, immediately begin buying building materials to get some defensive walls and I even hired some mercs out of the Hub to try and defend against it. But in the end, the Holy Empire slaughtered the mercs, most of them died, but I was able to heal those who didn't bleed out on the battlefield. It was very demoralizing and so I ended up starting up a new save to figure out where I want to actually want to set up camp for my character.

My brother bought me _Kenshi_ as an Xmas present so this should come in handy
The prospecting button is sure not the most important part of the GUI, but it's not that useless when looking for a place to set a new base in a more "challenging" area. Iron and copper deposits are more or less easy to spot, but other resources, like water and fertility, are not, and the looks of the environment may get rather deceptive in that regard - so instead of a lot of tedious pixel hunting you should rather press "prospect" once in a while when moving around to see if, say, "water" is just tricky to find, or if it is not in the area at all.

Just bought the game today (55% off on Steam right now) I've put 100s of hours into games like Rimworld etc.. Super pumped to dive into this over winter break! :D
There is one perfect location to build... On the green plains area with all the rivers, you can wall off an island so that the only way to get to your gates is via a long swim. Irrelevant of who attacks your base, you can turn them into swiss cheese with projectiles, as well as being able to escape everything if you train your toons to swim fast. Using that location, you can easily farm armies for loot and pretty much anything will grow there.
Regarding the part at 49:48, on whether a character will wake up from being knocked unconscious. When a character gets knocked unconscious, they get a countdown timer. When the countdown reaches 0, the game will check if all of their critical body parts (Head, Chest, Stomach) is above the Health KO point (determined by Toughness) and if it is, then the character will wake up. If it's still below the Health KO point, the character will be in a coma and they will have to recover to 0 health for them to wake up. Having high Toughness gives you lower KO points and that means they can take more beating and still wake up to fight or run. Having low Toughness makes your character go down faster and stay down
SURVIVE :D THAT is the only guide :D
if you wanna do a crossbow build to a new character. IT is advisable to make sure they equip a shitty crossbow. Talking from experience. I have my 70 stat character nearly died to a bolt on the head while dealing with some random ninjas. because I found a stupid Masterwork Eagle's cross and decided to equip it on a character with 0 experience on crossbows.

The first time I ever played Kenshi I used the Space marine mod and was clearing out entire cities with just a couple of guys basically collapsing the entire world and watching it turn into chaos

Tis a good mod for sure. Sometimes you just need to eliminate a planet.
This is a great guide for beginners

Your wrong about the block option, it's fantastic. The block option can be used to quickly increase a characters defense using a prisoner, without damaging the prisoner and having excessive amounts of down time between training. I've also experimented with clicking it on and off strategically during a fight, which has seemed to give me a decent edge.
Heyo, just a few... Points/corrections or just opinions to add. 1:33 Max relations by bandaging is 5 so you won't ever get anyone by that alone sadly. 2:33 Fantastic suggestion. The Freedom Seekers is the best new player start. 3:13 I suggest not touching the hunger slider myself. 3:45 It just effects bloodloss and wound degeneration. Higher means downtime when training is a LOT longer. Wouldn't suggest touching. 4:10 Do NOT touch Global damage multiplier. EVER. So the game has a bug which causes Crossbow damage to be affected twice by this setting. So, if it's 2x then Crossbows do 4x damage, 3x is 9x, and 4x is 16x. On top of that lowering the multiplier actually reduces XP gain, while boosting it increases XP gain. Important to note that it only affects Combat XP. 4:57 Important to note that making crafting speed higher means that you will (If buying from a town) be required to find more shops to buy materials from. 5:50 Correct it does not work anymore. 6:03 No... It does not work. 8:22 Big disagreement here. Hit chances are massively different. Because of hit chances Scorchlander will beat a Greenlander in a fight more than they will lose (With the same stats) even if healing was disabled. All of the 4 non-hive races will absolutely destroy hivers in fights due to the Hiver chest hit chance paired with low stomach hit chance due to a mechanic called hit multiplier. (When hit chance hit in that part is increased. Starts at 1, goes up by 1 when hit, max of 5...) That being said feel free to play what you want just saying that not all races are on the same level in the end. 12:55 You do NOT need to be seen healing a member of a faction. 18:22 The tips are quite helpful however has a few typos in it and it a bit outdated. (Still mentions CHASE mode and the blueprint backpack bug that was fixed a while back) 20:29 (Pause) 0x Speed, 1x Speed, 2x Speed, 5x Speed in case anyone is curious. 21:06 Certain areas have darker skies so it may seem later earlier in the day. The clock is working as intended. Think of it like if it's 8PM in Alaska it'll look different than 8PM in California.

23:00 No... It just means they will not provoke enemies themselves. They certainly will fight back. 23:50 Medic is an urgent task not really a job so even disabling JOBS will not prevent them from doing it. If HOLD is enabled they will not seek out allies further away to bandage however. 24:35 Never noticed any issues with RANGED. Important to note if you have any issues it might be because the target has "Diplomat" status which causes the AI to almost completely ignore attacking them with ranged weapons. 25:44 Please note that if you use the walk or jog options athletics can actually level slower. Weird.. But yeah. 27:46 The game tooltip lies. Wearing armour or not results in the same Toughness XP. ALWAYS wear armour when training Toughness. 27:58 You gain a very small amount of XP from taking damage. So just fight weaklings. It's not affected by Stronger Opponent Logic. 28:25 Tooltip lies again. Weapon weight does not affect XP gain. (On weapon) Cut dmg / (cut dmg + blunt dmg) = Dex XP relative to Attack XP. Crossbows are VERY VERY slow for leveling Dexterity, so I suggest using a Rusted Junk Foreign Sabre for great XP gains. You can get 1-90 Dexterity in around a game day if we only count time spent fighting/healing without cheese :) 30:00 Tip from a Kenshi nerd here. Don't ever use blunt weapons or staff. They are horrible. 30:45 Ranged damage is a flat amount. 100 Crossbow skill just means you reload/aim faster and are more accurate. Doesn't increase damage... Techniquely DPS would be the word to use. Weapons do far more damage than Crossbows when trained, ontop of being able to hit multiple units at once. And if armour is added to the mix then Crossbow damage is pathetic. You can only take out groups before they get close to you if they are unarmoured and you outnumber them. 32:10 The point you don't damage yourself anymore is at 200 combined total MA and Toughness... Infact if you go above 200 total (From equipment) you can actually heal up limb damage by attacking. Funny little bug :) 32:30 All weapons do that if you do enough damage. Just MA hits so flipping hard it can stumble units MUCH easier.

32:39 When blocking you take no damage at all... So, this is incorrect. And to add dodge lock is only really a thing if you fight vs Beak Things. Basically VERY slow attacking enemies with a lot of reach. People overexaggerate "dodge lock" a bit too often imo. The mods which buff MA the most powerful skill in the game are just cheat mods and people just want to justify buffing themselves. 34:10 Science increases the radius of Prospecting. 44:20 I wouldn't suggest mining unless you REALLY need cats ASAP. There are way better things to do. Like luring Garru to guards, looting abandoned ruins etc... 46:50 Don't fight enemies with cut weapons at the very start. Or if you are hit by them flee. Starving bandits are slow. Bandage yourself and rush back in. 49:46 You get back up when healed to 0. Never in my 5,300 hours of the game have I had a unit get back up before then. Not saying it isn't possible.. But I feel like I would have seen it once hah. 51:00 Beds boost healing speed of stun damage (empty health) and bandaged health (the yellow health) by 8. You heal (Healrate)% for both types of damage every 22mins of gametime. If you zoom your camera out you actually heal up to 40% slower so zoom in and look straight down to heal at max speed. 58:00 Animals don't actually attack bases. It's more that they just wander into your town randomly. Raptors are the only real "attackers" when they try to eat your crops which will cause your characters to attack them. They don't really attack you first. 59:36 Gorillos are fantastic XP however and do mostly stun damage meaning you won't be worsening to death if one KOs. 59:41 Nests respawn somewhere in the zone after killed. So if a zone has 10 nests spawn and you kill 1 then another one appears somewhere in the zone. 1:00:20 Well said. Steer clear of Skin Bandits/Crab Raiders/Reavers early for sure. Crossbow using enemies/animal owning factions are deadly at the start.

I noticed that if you have no men in your faction and the church people come by for prayer they will get mad that there are no men and come back with large army to wipe you out. I started base building right from the start near the rebel base outside the hub and thus happened to me haha All I did was when they arrived, I left my base and watched them, from a nearby hill, run inside the one building I had and they just stayed in there for about 15 min and then left.

if you hire a guy before the come back, they get are like "oh we thought there were no men here, anyway try not to take on too many women, its hard work" heh
What overhaul mods do you recommend? I played Kenshi a ton back then. Your video made me want to play it again with with heavy mods. I don't think what to choose from Kaizo vs RW vs LW, or what mods actually work together now.
just got it is installing how come i hadn't heard of this game till yestday
LOL! The weapon type doesn't matter as long as you like the way it looks! I would only purpose that you should pick at least two types of weapons if your favorite is one that gets a penalty for being indoors. Have at least a backup for indoors. Lots of really good options that weigh almost nothing. Also like to have some people focus on the various polearms that tenda have bonuses against animals, because getting that sweet sweet nectar of the alpha is no easy task to create the alpharum for your bulktrader pass!

Honestly not sure if that's a mod or not, I have way too many mods. Fallout and Star Wars pack mods. The moon in the sky on my kenshi world is the Death Star, and it's pretty awesome. Lol

Yep! The black screen secret special! 😅
Ive never seen any mention this but, understanding that the Forgotten Construction Set editor isnt for everyone, however, if you edit your character's weapon smithing to 999, then create any weapon your chance to crit a super weapon is guaranteed. Then create your weapon of choice. No matter your research level, it will be orders of magnitude better, like, Excaliber or something. Huge damage. For example, the highest rsearched Katana will have an exhilarating cutting of 54 as a model # Edge Type 2. Funny enough, Type 3 is not as good. Weird. This katana's value is c.320,000 sell at c.80,000. Try it. You can always edit back to normal if you please....as a Sword Master!!!
bought this game years ago and never played, just booted up yesterday for the first time to spend the last hour of my night playing. Died by the end but I went to sleep thinking of a new gameplan for tonight xD
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but there’s no drawing, image, or video going on at around 1:04:40 (describing a V type base). It’s just a dark screen for like a minute.

Yeah, it's been said lol. A error in editing...twice. it's explained a bit later in the video. Sorry about that!
Aye i came cause i didnt get that first message u put in the base building section before i started my furthest play through im ready to dismantle my base the way my characters arent ready at allllll😢😭😭😭😭😂i just started playin kenshi but i restarted like 10000 times i gotta put my foot down. Fyi 3 of my ppl out of 5 are missing limbs😩not bad its actually good in kenshi but stillllll
I did want to mention one thing, and maybe you did, but one of the things you can brute force for new players base building is to just build a TON of batteries. I didn't see you go over those, and when you are building a lot of stuff and your power source is just wind, batteries on batteries can make things go SO smooth.
@FallingFoxGaming
Жыл бұрын
I didn't mention it because honestly new players aren't going to be doing too much that requires power. Batteries are nice if you need that extra power 24 hours a day, but usually you can just let it go and it'll take a bit longer but everything will complete itself still.
Finally a video that actually helps 😂
I honestly would buy a house in a city, and do all your research there, and get a squad together and level/train them up before making a base.
Kenshi is currently on sale on humble bundle. 13.49 USD on 10/25/23. Thanks for the intro guide!

I haven't read any comments so it may have already been said. The Medic job (along with Splint & Robotics healing) will still be done regardless if the JOBS button is not switched on. I always assign these 3 things as soon as I have a new squad member as I prefer them all to be able to heal automatically instead of micro-managing just one squad member like some people setup.

Multiple jobs usually only bug out when they are in the wrong order, pure and simple. The list may look right but on closer inspection it all becomes clear where you may have screwed up. I honestly can't remember any of my squad members jobs bugging out (played 3500+ hrs so far) - and believe me when I say some have well over 30 jobs in their list at one time with multiple members also having 30 plus jobs. I've even had a solo playthrough where that one guy did everything, using every single vanilla crafting machine in the game along with plenty of new modded machinery - all working beautifully - yes, it took me a while to work out how I wanted him to do stuff but it worked when done correctly. Kenshi's old engine will do it but it needs to be done right. As for building bugs - there can be some bugs but again, these are usually user error. If not, ctrl+shift+F11 works most of the time to reset the navmesh (which also helps sometimes with towns you come across & errant squad members/NPC's. I sometimes also use the shift+F12 UI where you can simply click FIX, then click EXIT (never click SAVE in that UI unless you want to for a mod you are editing in game), this one often fixing inaccessible buildings or the like.
I saw somebody complaining about view movement and the keyboard if you would make a video on an experts keyset that would be cool like telling people that you can literally use the ctrl key to move view around easily.
