​@Jacob Martinez yea but there's many instances in the regular show too. The respect she is granted by shunsui and ukitake in the soul society arc in a playful manner was funny but makes sense. Or when she arrived in hueco Mundo and the skull face arrancar retreated. And a few more.

Don't forget Shunsui was the only person who fought a espada WITHOUT USING HIS BANKAI, and it was the strongest espada to top it off, just goes to show how OP he is

True but it was also after he already knew all of Starks abilities from him fight other people first. Realistically Byakuya probably could have won his too without his Bankai if Rukia wasn't there to be taken hostage but he might have still used it to end the fight quicker once he understood the power.

@@In-The-Zone But... Stark NEVER fought any other captain/soul-reaper. So no, that isn't it. Barragan, Stark & Haribel NEVER fought anyone. Especially Barragan & Stark. Barragan fought Aizen only. So, Shunsui didn't learn Stark's abilities or his fighting style from anyone else. He learned everything from JUST Stark.

If you go back to episode 40, you’ll see that in Kenpachi’s flashback when he first met his lieutenant Yachiru he said he named her after the person he respected the most. Now you know who that is.

Also for people saying it could have been anyone. 1. Yachiru is a female name so far Unohana is the only female Kenpachi that as ever existed. 2. If Zaraki was going to admire someone it could only make sense for it to be a Kenpachi someone who is like minded as him.

After this reveal, a past event completely changes. Back in the Hueco Mundo arc, Yamato sent Zaraki, Byakua, Mauri and Unonaha to finish the job and come back with Ichigo. What seemed like just sending 4 captains was actually Yamato sending 4 cold blooded killers to clean house.

Zaraki and unohana's relationship to me is like a mother and son because unohana is preparing her son(zaraki) on the future battles and even on the original series, some of the mini filler episodes their relationship is portraited as mom and her edgy son

There was actually a quick flashback during Nnoitora v Zaraki that showed Yamamoto taking Zaraki to school in the dojo. Yamamoto was loving it, super hyped to see Zaraki get stronger, but the pencil pushers got nervous and made him stop. Yamamoto listened because he believed in maintaining the order HE established. I imagine before Yamamoto reformed everything into the 13 Squads, the Soul Society was like Sengoku Era Japan. Soul Reaper business being handled by Daimyo, Lords and their families, directly instead of a centralized military. Perhaps the Squads were formed in direct response to the Quincies, the timeline would certainly support that.

God, I can’t wait until the EP 10 reaction comes out. It’s been a joy to watch these guys react to TYBW.

Yamamoto doesn't have anything to do with Squad Zero. Also, Remember how Kenpachi in the OG anime said he found his lieutenant as a kid and named her after the one person he admires... Well, that person is Yachiru Unohana. And yeah, remember that both Shunsui and Ukitake didn't even use their Bankai in Fake Karakura Town. There's a reason they're Yamamoto's strongest disciples. Byakuya stands no chance. Even Kenpachi.

You probably already know at this point but just in case I'd still like to clarify that there has been more than Two Kenpachis. Zaraki actually killed the previous Kenpachi in order to become the captain. He didn't became Kenpachi bcz he wounded Unohana.

This was mentioned in the original anime.. they must've forgotten. Even though they remembered that the current Kenpachi has to beat the previous one. It was said that Zaraki killed his predecessor.

He mentioned that the old man( Yama-Jii) was teached him zanjursu specifically kendo) for a day but Yama-Jii stopped after realizing how much of a freak of nature Kenpachi is. They fear they won't control him if he rebels against Soul Society on some Kaname Tosen shit..... which he probably would do if a member of one of the noble clans kidnapped Yachiru or some ish.

They aren't worried about Zaraki becoming like Tosen and rebelling against Soul Society...they worry about Zaraki going out of control with his barbarity and simply being unstoppable. He doesn't follow their rules when strong people are present, he does what he wants...and that terrifies Soul Society that he only abides by them out of boredom and lack of worthy adversaries.

This fight was soo iconic and I'm glad You are watching it guys. Next episodes are gonna be very interesting!!

Old yama ordering Unohana to stay in the squad 4 baracks during the fight takes on another level of meaning with this reveal. She is able to kill Zaraki who took out 3 Quincys easily, meaning anyone that isn't Yhwach is guaranteed to die if they fight her. It would explain why we never saw anyone invade squad 4. Also her true nature has been hinted at since the soul society arc. Shunsui and Ukitake were talking about the oldest captains and as soon as they were going to mention her age she appeared behind them and they were scared. The scene was played off as a joke but now knowing she was the most infamous criminal in history, that fear seems genuine and justified

The name Retsu itself means "Violent", also the Data Book released during the SS arc had her be the second strongest after Yamamoto and her specialty was Zenjutsu and not healing. Kubo planned this twist since the beginning of the series.

Unohana's true nature has been forshadowed for a while: -Everyone is scared of her, even captains as strong as Kyoraku and Ukitake, it's often played off as comic relief but still. -During Soul Society arc even Aizen chose not to face her head on (not that he could have lost, but to fight her would probably have taken too much time and effort for what it was worth at the time) -Her "fake" name, Retsu, means "violent" or "fierce" --In the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, second only to Aizen and Yamamoto, both having a score of 560/600, and her special ability was listed as kenjutsu, not healing.

In the turn back the pendulum arc with the Vizords, its mention that the Kenpachi of that time was like number 9 or 10 and apparently was very lazy, not even showing up to meetings which even Kenny does. Its also mention a long time ago that Kenpachi got his position by challenging the then Kenpachi and captain of squad 11 to a one on one duel and killed him. According to Yoruichi to become a captain you must either have bankai and go through the exam by the head captain and 2 others, having been recommended for it by another current captain, or you must defeat the captain of a given squad in a death match. Its never outright said but it can be assumed that the latter method is a hold over from the og savage squad and Yamamoto never got rid of it.

It’s always cool looking back in hindsight the interactions with Unohana and the other captains in the older bleach episodes. Even in the previous episode when Shunsui glanced at her when she was having the convo with Kirinji and looked away quick, so people knew what type of time she was on 😂

The fact that Kon going to Royal Palace before Aizen, that's comedy 🤣

NOT A SPOILER: Btw Zaraki kenpachi is the 11th generation kenpachi so besides unohana there were 9 others.

They were "officially" Kenpachis because Unohana gave up that title when she joined 4th division. No one other than Yamamoto, and probably Shunsui and Ukitake knew. But I'm not even sure about Shunsui as he literally read from a book that she's the Kenpachi.

Guys, nobody you saw in Squad 0 was in Yammaoto's flashback. That means everyone in Squad 0 is older than that, except for Kirio Hikifune, who only joined Squad 0 100 years ago.

Love unohana so much. blew my mind reading the manga when it first came out. (we didn't see the first captains flashback in manga)

Kyoraku Shunsui as head captain...perfect choice ! At that point in time he is both the wisest and perhaps one of the most powerful captain in the Gotei 13...The warrior philosopher. His only weakness was the drive to do the job really...now it's different !!

Since you’ve already finish the cour, I can say this now in case no one pointed it out already. In the manga, Ichigo and Renji already met Nimaiya and started fighting the Asauchi before the Kenpachi fight began. They also ended at the same time. Zaraki and Unohana fought in Muken for about 3 whole days.

There's some other broken as hell OP Kenpachis throughout the years but I'm not gonna say much because that going into Light Novel spoiler territory. In total there's been 11 Kenpachi (Zaraki being the 11th one) we know of 3 in the manga/anime. They're Zaraki, Yachiru/Retsu & Kiganjo. We also know of 2 they're in the Light Novels. The others we don't know anything about or have seen them.

It's kind of glossed over, but it's stated that if you are born in soul society, you will age, but if you are a soul that came to soul society from the living world; you wont. It's weird, but that's how it works. Correct me if I'm wrong though. No spoilers though(I'm looking at you light novel readers).

The Kenpachi concept is awesome😭😭🔥🔥🔥 Unohana created that system and now it's time to see who is the true Kenpachi. There's others before Kenpachi, but yall will see🔥🔥🔥 Episode 10 is one of the best, yall will see. Well i can't wait to see that reaction!! Yamamoto and Unohana are more than a 1000 years old. They gave up the life of that savagery killing, remember even Yhwach told Yamamoto that he became soft and began to care about people and got students (Shunsui and Jushiro). He changed, Unohana also changed from that life and became a motherly figure to her squad and others, that's why she also looked a bit conflicted when Kirinji said "you know that there is something else that you need to be doing"🔥 but she knew she was obligated to because it's something that she created now she has to adhere to it.😢

Remember what Unohana said, her sin...they are Kenpachi, there can only be one Kenpachi. Now that they, as true warriors, have engaged in mortal kombat...their bloodlust will become too strong to stop until one of them is dead.

I never thought about it and 😂 I dont think Kubo was thinking in a love/sexual relationship with Unohana and Zaraki But some people like you guys have mention it and looking back, right there, it does feel like they needed to get down to it, instead of trying to kill eachother😂

I think the sexual undertone builds more tension to the scene but it's not ment to be romantic. They are people who deeply love the same thing: battle. They share a love for combat that no one else in the world can comprehend. That's quite a bond but I don't see a relationship there lmao

I always thought Unohana just had a sort of presence about her, but now I see people had a LEGIT reason to be terrified of her.

Fun fact: Back in... I think the Arrancar Arc (Manga) a databook was released with information about all the captains circa Soul Society Arc. This included things like likes, dislikes, specialties and also their Battle Stats: Offense, Defence, Mobility, Physical Strength, Intelligence and Kido, all out of 100 for a total score out of 600. The highest scores were Yamamota and Aizen with 560 each. The second place was Unohana with 540. Her listed speciality was *Swordfighting*, not healing. It was a while before anyone found out why.

zenkia boost applies in the show for all characters, there is another reason for unohanna statement about kenpachi death strength growing. most of of what you talked about was interesting but im suprised that at least adorkiable didnt catch what kenpachi said to unohanna when he called her the person he admired most and the new head captian stated her name when she entered the political courtroom/ nobles council area. remember kenpachi said he named his LT after the person he most admired back in the soul society arc way back. this isnt spioler what im about say but your suppose to realize that kenpachis LT was named after unohanna among the many other relizations this episode. love yalls reaction guys

I don't know why people think that being near death boosts all shinigamis. That's never been said about anyone, it's just Kenpachi. He subconsciously holds himself down to be able to fight on the edge and when he is near death he is forced to release a bit more of his power. That doesn't apply to any other shinigami

Unohana was the 1st Kenpachi and made Squad 11 but she left it to become squad 4 captain The guy Zaraki defeated to become the 11th Captain will be shown briefly in next episode watch out for it he is a brother Also 7th and 6th Kenpachi were broken asf...7th Kenpachi is still alive and prisoned in Muken...he was so strong it took squad zero and whole gotei 13 to imprison him While 6th Kenpachi was killed by 7th his Bankai can fused with the atmosphere...it was one of the most broken Bankai ever The reason I m telling you these facts bcz as a anime only watcher you will miss many things if you don't read manga cfyow novel and other sources like about the other Kenpachis...the anime didn't go into every details

If two kenpachi fight...other one have to die...thats a ritual and kind of unsaid thing between two kenpachi..thats how zaraki became kanpachi by beating last kenpachi and killing him...and you will know more about it in nxt ep

Yeah zaraki is a criminal but you forget that in the flashback they said that unohana was the MOST NOTORIOUS criminal... so she still beats him there

Well, now you know why other soul reapers from other squads are scared of her throughout the whole series. They just hid her past history with her former squad that she lead from us; the viewers.

The SS existed before the Gotei 13. They just had different schools of Shinigami. Whar Yamamoto did was bring everyone together to create an army that protects the SS as well as taking his school (and likely the other schools) and merged it into the academy.

6:30 took me a minute to get this joke 😂

Unohana Yashiru vs Zaraki Kenpachi...the first Kenpachi vs the current one...one of the 5 big moments I wanted to see so badly animated in that arc and it doesn't disappoint ! The battle of the Kenpachi's...what is gonna come out of this room will be an unstoppable killing machine forged by a battle of pure instincts...it's savage and glorious at the same time !

Remember that Zaraki is becoming strong when he's fighting and almost about to die then survive it.. that's why they need unohana to train zaraki until she die because unohana can revive someone she killed and only one kenpachi must remain to take that title

If you rewatch the Kenpachi flashback there's a lot you can learn from that the foreshadowing by Kubo was crazy

Been a few Kenpachi, she stepped down when she started healing. Was atleast 2 after that one killed another then Zaraki killed that one. Unohane is technically undefeated

Unohana looks like a Sekiro boss.

I actually didn't notice that when it showed the unohana letter and kenpachi eyepatch it kind of told you who would die because kenpachi left his eyepatch as resolve to win or die trying and unohana left a letter basically signifying she was going to die. I know this might not be what the author intended but in my opinion a letter with a will says that you know you're going to die more than an object with nothing on it.

@16:55 not exactly. In the flashback Yama-Jii looks like mid to late 50's potentially 60's while Retsu(or Yachiru is she was known back then) look like mid 20's to early 30's. Present TYBW Yama-Jii before he died looks like in his 80's going on 90's while Retsu is looking reaching prime milf status. So anywhere in her 40's.

So it's not really commented on in the show but I think the time dilation between the living world and souls society is 2 to 1 so for every day in soul society 1 day passes In the living world (can't cite a source just saw it floating around reddit but the math kinda lines up) So a thousand years in soul society would put the last quincy invasion around the B.C.E/ A.D change over give or take. It also can help explain why soul society looks as old as it does

Unohana is the first Kenpachi, Zaraki is the 11th. Unohana is the only one who had retired from the Kenpachi title without getting bodied by the next Kenpachi. Zaraki named his Lieutenant, Yachiru after Unohana.

Soul Society has always been there. They had laws. They had society. They just didn't have the 13 Court Guard Squads until Yamato created them. And I'm pretty sure the "Central 42" existed prior to the 13 Court Guard Squads as well.

i cant believe you all forgot that it was said multiple times that Kenny is 11th Kenpachi and he killed previous Kenpachi! She is the 1st Kenpachi,so...The story of BLEACH knows about 5 Kenpachi's and one of the strongest BANKAI belong to fan favourites 8th Kenpachi Soya Azashiro. Even Aizen's Kyoka Suigetsu didnt affect him

The reason Shinsui is a better head captain than Yamamoto is tactical thinking and being decisive in the right situation no one besides him in the Gotei 13 deserves to the head captain after Yama,Byakuya is great but he isn't as sagacious as Shinsui and you'll also know how strong exactly the new head captain is after sometime just wait 🐐💀

Yeah, power aside its also a matter of experience. Realistically Ukitake makes the most sense intellectually, Unahana physically, but Shinsui has the best of both worlds. Byakuya would probably come after him in like a 100 years, or Shinji if he's still around too(and would even be considered by C46 given his hollow powers).
