Man it's kinda annoying people judging others for finding this song on tiktok. Try to understand there are younger people than you and didn't get the privilege to listen to this amazing song growing up. And some people's parents came from different backgrounds meaning different music they play for their children. You should all just be happy more people can hear this gem of a track from one of the greatest. Better late than never

The phrase "Everybody gon' respect the shooter, but the one in front of the gun lives forever" is pure poetry, probably one of the greatest lines that will come out of this era. I'm glad this song is getting the recognition it deserves and I'm glad I got to hear it myself.

For yall who dont know, this song is about how chasing money or having money as a whole will influence your actions. Kendrick and Jay Rock describe their lives in Compton and how kendrick committed robbery and house invasions as said in the lines "from 9 to 5 i know it's vacant ya bish" meaning between that time he will rob homes when people are at work. Also the line "it go halle berry, or hallelujah pick your poison tell me what you doing" means that if you choose "halle berry" you will fall into crime and the dark path to get money. If you choose "hallelujah" you will not participate in hood politics etc.. Last thing, when Kendrick says "everybody gon' respect the shooter, but the one in front of the gun lives forever." Means that everyone recognizes who killed a victim but, the victim him/herself will live forever in people memories even though they are the ones who died. It also is apart of the story of "good kid, m.A.A.d city" which is the album that this song is featured on. In one of the album's skits/outro, Kendricks friend: Dave is heard getting shot and killed on the spot. Hence why he says that line. I HIGHHHLYYY recommend that you listen to this album and really look into each and every line and reference because in my opinion, this is one of the best hip hop albums ever made.

@@c2k09-arpana7 pretty straightforward tbh he is just saying he wont be caught lacking and he wont “be the last one out to get this dough”. He wont be the last one to make it out of the hood and he wont fall into the traps that the hood has such hoes who would play with your heart and waste your time. The other two lines are talking about him not stopping at red lights and committing crime but i think it also means that no one can stop him from making money.

I love how he's explaining the world behind the facade that rappers put on when they rhyme...talking about how much money they have and all the "hoes" they have and some people wonder why they value that so much. Money doesn't equal happiness but it temporarily eases pain and symbolizes making it out of their personal hell.

money equals success right now..if you got money now then you have made it and you can brag about it. I love how Kendrik explains the before he became Kendrik, that one little fella who has seen so much at such a young age, and what anyone would think is just that money would fucking get you out of it..and in some way it does. but the fact tht he is still talking about those experiences to this day shows that money really didnt change him at all

Damn I remember when all Kendrick had available were the mixtapes and EP he dropped. I discovered him in the 8th grade. His overly dedicated mixtape is what I heard first. He went by KDot in his previous mixtapes too. Then he dropped that album and now he’s one of the greats. It’s nice to see an artist doing so well when their earlier music consisted of them speaking about making it out the environment they were raised in and them not seeing they would make it so far. ❤️❤️

@@zeked96 Not the point, im glad they are hearing one of the GOATs, but its ironic they found out about him through TikTok, a dancing app, when kendrick is known for making music that people cant dance too lmao

It's for me lmao
found this song through skate videos but listened to this all and damn the lyrics hit hard 🔥 also the last part adds up to the whole song and finishes it pretty well.
Loved it
ihhhhh🔥🔥
not sure why people think "tiktok is giving this exposure" when kendrick is one of the most famous rappers right now

It's the same thing with Playdate by Melanie Martinez. She's a famous singer but Playdate was 4 years old. Kendrick lamarr wasnt as big as he is now 6 years ago that's what they mean by exposure
