I found Dr. Blaine's complete scar care treatment works really well on keloids. The treatment has a silicon gel-pad that you wear for 12 hours and then a liquid gel that you apply for the rest of the day. I'm pretty sure you can buy it at Longs Drug/CVS for like $20. It's good stuff.

@ydoweenvy Thanks for your message. Surgery sounds like it could be a possibility but you need to talk to your surgeon about what technique they are going to use to prevent it coming back. These include more steroid injections or radiotherapy to the area. Good luck with your consultation and if you do decide to go ahead with surgery. @lmedina4 Thanks for your message. I don't think cryotherapy is likely to work as it does not reduce the colour of the keloid. Hi Dr. Richards I just wanted to say thank you for the great info in your video. I have scars on my chest as mentioned previously by others just below my collarbone which I've had for about 6 years now. I'm curious about the massages you were mentioning, my first dermatologist told me not to touch my scars or they would get worse. I'm sure massaging is out now, as I have been injected with Kenalog, but I'm relieved to know that touching them is ok. It's a relief to learn more about my options.

Their painful and I'm scared to death to have them surgically removed because their on my face. Injections sound awful as well. I use to get the injections in my ears and it was horrible. I just dont knw what to do because they are ugly and painful.

I have a number of scars on my torso due to acne, but I am unsure if most are keloids. My dermatologist says they are and some I'm certain from their look are keloids because of their texture and height, but others look closer to enlarged goosebumps. None of my "keloids" have ever grown outward either, new ones only appear a random distance away from an existing scar, and any time I've popped a keloid they simply fade and never come back, only leave a dark mark. So do I really have keloids?

Thank you so much for the very informative video. I just had a keloid removed surgically and then immediately had 3 timed radiation treatments. I'm very paranoid it will grow back and worse yet grow back even bigger. My main question is how long before i know if it will grow back or not? I was just reading about a girl who got rid of hers for a few years and then they started growing again when she got pregnant. Can they still come back after being dormant for years?

Hi Dr. Richards, I have had a keloid scar above my chest (few cm down from collarbone) so i stay away from wearing any form of low cut tops. I have had it for about 10 yrs now &it does affect my confidence. I did have two steroids treatment which caused three smaller keloids to have formed besides the larger one &so i got alittle scared. The Dr mentioned surgery with a 50% chance it would come back but i opted to leave it thinkin there is no way of gettin rid. Advice would be much appreciated

I There i have a few keloid scars on the upper part of my back. I live in madeira island Portugal. The treatment that i´ve done are injections of corticoids and keloid freezing by nitrogen pump. A few of my keloids had flatten out but i stop the treatment since the use of nitrogen to freeze the keloids is very painful. I dont mind doing the injections but the treatment with nitrogen is out of the question. Wath does the nitrogen do really since i don´t see anybody being treated with that?

Hi Adrian, this was a really help informative video, many thanks! I had a small mole removed on the back of my shoulder, it turned into a red bump that became inflamed. I went back to the dermo and she tried steriod tape 1st for about 3 months, which didnt work (but it made the skin around my bump go white! and bleached my skin.. so now i had a white area as well as a red bump. Next time she injected it with a steroid.. and it then sunk into a deep hole below the level of my natural skin.

@clinicsaurora Dear Doctor. I have a hypertrophic scar between my upper lip and nose which I got at a bike accident on September 20, 2011 and I've been actively administering Topical cream on the scar since early November or late October. The reason as to why I didn't do it sooner is because I had to give it time to heal and there basically was just a scab covering it for much of Sept and early Oct. Is using Topical cream okay and when should I have started putting cream on it. Thanks.

After how much time do you reccomend injecting triamcinolone at hypertrophic scars? I have many slightly raised 1-2mm hypertrophic scars which are 10 months old and tend to change colours at cold wheather they are pinkish purple, and at hot wheather they turn light pinkish, dermatologist told me that i need to start early treatment with triamcinolone, and other plastic surgeon told me to wait until the scar mature and that the scar will desolve on its own this was 7 months ago.

I am currently taking 2 creams from my physician and it has reduced the sizes of the series of bumps on the back of my head and the redness has been reduced. Hi E Tay, As you've said - we are not experienced in piercing at all. I would generally say to avoid massaging the piercing site unless you have been instructed too by the person who pierced it. The key with piercings is to keep them clean and sterile as any infection could cause scar tissue. I would go back and speak to your piercer if you are concerned about anything or even a dermatologist. The best way to reduce scarring when you remove your piercing is to keep the area clean once the jewellery has been removed. There are anti scarring gels that you could put on it - i would recommend seeking a dermatologist to recommend one for you. But just keeping it clean and avoiding using any lotions/creams or moisturizers on the area whilst it is healing. Hope this helps. The Aurora Team

Can a mole removal scar be treated with vascular laser? Or any type of laser at all? I've been told by a doctor that its dangerous because of the mole that was previously there, and stimulating it with a laser may be dangerous which i dont understand why then use a laser to burn a mole, i read this dermatological article and if there is just one cell of the mole left the hole mole will grow back again, which is not my case, my mole didnt grow back and its been 2 years since ive got rid of it.

No I don’t think laser therapy will work if it is a keloid. Lasers are mainly used to reduce the redness of a scar and not really for reducing it in other ways. The best treatment normally is a small injection of a mild steroid which should make it flatter. Your Doctor should be able to do this for you, if not a Plastic Surgeon certainly could. Good luck Adrian Richards

It sounds as if you may have developed a hypertrophic scar. If this is the case it would probably be best to treat it with a small steroid injection. This can be done by most Plastic Surgeons. Good luck and let us know how you get on if you do have an injection. Adrian Richards

Hi- it is probably best not to remove them as they may come back larger in the future. The best first treatment to consider is a steroid injection which can be given by most Plastic Surgeons. This will shrink the keloids and hopefully avoid surgery. Good luck…… With best wishes Adrian Richards- Plastic Surgeon

I am sorry but I do not know much about this condition. However from my understanding is that it is very important to keep the infection down as this is what causes the keloids. The normal way of doing this is with oral anti-biotics and if you are not on these it would be worthwhile discussing this with your family doctor. Hope this helps Good luck Adrian Richards Medical Director - Aurora Clinics Tel: 0800 328 5743

@QuestionAll1 I would recommend injections into the keloids. This can be very painless if local anaesthetic is used and will flatten the keloids. They can come back slightly but it would be possible to inject them again to keep them flat. Adrian Richards

I am not sure that Tear Tree Oil will reduce your scarring sufficiently. You may be better considering a steroid injection into the scars to help flatten them. This is a treatment that most Plastic Surgeons could perform. Good luck if you do decide to proceed with this treatment.

The first advice I think most of us would give is to first stop using all caps. It makes a person look absolutely ignorant. Then use punctuation, such as periods and commas, to prevent your paragraph from looking like one long sentence. Then practice spelling or use spell-check. I guarantee you will get better and quicker responses, if you follow this advice

The best course of action for you is to email info@aurora-clinics.co.uk and explain your issue in depth for someone to get back to you, although I expect the course of action to take would be to book a consultation and then go from there. Many thanks The Aurora Team

It is best to leave the areas to heal and see what they look like- keep them clean and if you are not happy with then in 2 weeks send us a photo to info@aurora-clinics.co.uk and we will advise on the best treatment for you. Adrian Richards

@bigfatme200 Thank you for your email. It is probably best to start by injecting your scar with a small amount of steroid in the first instance. Removing it with surgery can actually make it slightly worse rather than better. Good luck if you do decide to have your keloid treated.
