Kelley Smith - Nine Hundred Miles

Музыка

Here’s a fun one. An old folk song - a spirit song. I first heard it from Barbara Dane, but some ghost or ghosts deserve the credit.

Why do people like you not get the credit they deserve? So much soul. Not that it matters, but are you flat picking the banjo? If so, it makes me love this even more.

This is really fantastic, there's nothing quite like this rendition on KZread. Really is like Barbara Dane but slower and on a banjo. Most players use a guitar for this and some play ruebens train on banjo which shares a lot of lyrics but they play it fast. This really hits all the boxes for how a slow somber banjo version which fits well for the lyrics. Excellent stuff. What tuning are you in?

Thank you so much. I do plan to record this for a folk album some time soon. I was experimenting with Gm tuning awhile back and was running through the songs I knew that would work well in the tuning. Started working this one out and it came pretty quickly.
