Great review Mark. The Keith set is quite impressive, lots of thought and engineering. I was impressed with the pressure relief hole in the lid, and the way the lid locks. I use a Nalgene lexan bottle with a 750 ml Toaks Titanium cup with bail and lid. Quite happy with this setup.

I picked out that 750ml Toaks as well. For fact that it fits in the Firebox 5" boil plate hole, as well as the bail option. Nice piece of kit at I thought a decent price...nesting a Trangia/folding Ti spoon and a fork. ...paper towel for rattle.

LOVE the precision and forensic detail you show in your videos Mark . To address your minor concerns with some dexterity its possible to carefully file a gap to permit the lid triangle to engage thus allowing to to remain upright during use . By bending a pipe cleaner on the contours of the bottle opening it would then possible to modify the fish hook theory to a precise fit.lastly another minor gripe being the lack of a small hole in the sleeve, again easily remediated by a small circle of super glue on the bottom then it is fine to make a hole in the material without fear of fraying alternatlively glue a small washer on the bottom the make the hole . . Given your video will most probably be scrutinised by KEITH I fully expect them to address these concerns in future manufacturing. batches

That’s funny Mark I have the exact same Nalgene bottle, GSI cup and the self-reliance outfitters lid to match . And you’re right, it is very strong. I’ve dropped it when it’s full of water and it barely dented it… I’d really be interested in seeing how the titanium one would do when dropped (full of water) on rocks?! Maybe Keith can send you a spare one to try that out with! Thanks again for the thorough review. Can’t wait to see part three…. I’ve always wondered why someone would choose a canteen set up over a traditional bottle and cup set up.

    1) I have the smaller version of Keith Bottle w/Canteen cup. (2 in fact). One has been my primary water bottle for the past 5 years and the only thing I plan on replacing it with is the larger version which you have shown here. 2) With some time ( & patience) you can stretch the “shroud” (carrier) to fit both; canteen & bottle. Removing quickly proved challenging so I did not leave it, but it can be done with effort. I agree with you that Keith would serve themselves, and their customers well to redesign the bottle carrier to fit both as well as provide a pocket to insert their spork into. As you mentioned in your previous video, this isn’t really a deal breaker for me either because I don’t carry my cook set around with me separately. I sling the water bottle around me daily though, and I too created a small cook set/survival kit for day hiking surrounding the canteen kit. I have purchased many Keith products (2 bottles, canteen cup, bowls, skillet, lunch kit, sporks, cutlery set, flask, & a plate) and I have no intentions of buying any other brand due to the quality control aspects of Keith products versus the other brands. Keith’s products are superb IMO. Keith also has a lifetime warranty and each piece is serialized (under the Keith logo on each piece) for their quality control and tracking of purchase. I don’t believe that any other brand has such a strong attention to detail as that. Good review.

I agree the weight savings is not worth the cost. I picked up the Outbound 750 and 1000 ml single wall stainless steel bottles on sale a few years ago for $2.99 & $4.99 Canadian. They serve me perfectly, they have plastic lids but I take them off when heating anyway. My cup is a 750 ml from Walmart, I picked up in the states a few years ago as well. I can fit a bandana around the bottle and carry them both in a Rothco pouch from a Surplus store. Cheers Mark!

G'day Mark, like that the lid on the Keith bottle is Ti too and being bayonet, a quick twist is less hassle than a thread, just needs some sort of stop pin/tab. I am very surprised the pouch doesn't cater for the mug and it's lid, defeats whole the purpose of a nesting set. I'm also surprised how much lighter the Ti is; at around 50%, that is significant. In fairness to SS, the overall percentage difference drops proportionally the more full the bottle is. Look forward to the next one mate. Cheers Duke.

Thing about Titanium is if you buy right you buy once and cry once, but then you have something that'll last a lifetime of camping. It's not an ideal material for "collector" campers, but I got my Evernew Solo set (and their stove) years ago, a horrible amount of money even then (much more now) but it weighs next to nothing and will last for the decades to come. That said, I'm not convinced on a Titanium water bottle. I have a plastic pouch (again by Evernew) but that's relatively cheap and weighs nothing and rolls away when not in use.

40oz is a nice size, but thinking as extra water. Most already have something to heat water in...poured from the Ti bottle. It wouldn't have to leave the carry sack, that looks great. Hunert bucks for a Ti bottle I'm wanting some real threads vs that design. It's extra water. I wonder if you heated a beater Philips screw driver/other to glowing, if it would melt a decent hole in the bottom of the Ti bottle sack for venting/any condensation.

  • @MarkYoungBushcraft

So, this is an interesting topic and likely to open a can of worms with other viewers. Titanium will generally heat up and loose heat faster than stainless steel but not because it conducts heat better. In fact it does not conduct heat near as well as SS. The reason it is faster is because it is thinner. It can be thinner because it is stronger. So, a cup, bottle, stove, etc with a metal thickness the same as stainless steel will actually be slower to heat and slower to cool. Thanks for commenting
