What did you use to write at the back of your SD Card?

The brand name is Uni POSCA Paint Marker which may or may not be available where you are in the world. I just found it at my office/stationery supply store (Officeworks in Australia). If you look for paint markers online or in store you should find something similar. A fine tip is preferable for writing on SD cards! Definitely practice and get the paint flowing on a spare piece of paper before you write on the cards too.

@@leviingram thank You so much for the reply. It is just a struggle for 2nd shooters missing your sd card. And you forgot if it was returned to you. That's why I'm looking for a permanent white marker

@@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck Oh yes, I've been there! Tricky when everyone has the same sd cards. These markers are fairly permanent. You can remove it with a bit of effort and an alcohol wipe but not by accident - it usually just leaves a smudge behind if you try. Combined with a permanent marker on the front of the card you should be able to tell it apart unless someone really wants to take it!

Love your video and am grateful for you sharing. I just started picking up multiple SD cards for drone footage after finding it hard to organize phots and videos within a single sd card for multiple activities during the week. I did pickup an organization case but was looking for a way to identify what was on each one and got some ideas from your video. Thanks!

Would you describe your numbering system?

Sure! The first three letters are like a title. On newer cards I'm using FBM (Framed by [Levi] Media). The letter in the middle is a batch identifier. As I tend to buy lots of cards at once to replace/renew older ones I use this to roughly identify the era of the card (ie FBMA01 might be from 2019, FBMB01 is from 2020 and FBMC01 is from 2021) This just helps to know how old the card is. As cards get older I tend to only use them for lower stakes purposes such as travel photos etc. and save my newer cards for higher stakes jobs, so easily being able to see which batch a card is from helps me. The last two numbers are just a serial number to identify the card. Let me know if that answers your question! To be honest I've been a bit slack with this process recently as I've mainly been working on smaller projects where I can keep up with everything easily, but this comment has reminded me to get my marker out and label my newest batch of cards. :)

@@leviingram Thanks! I’ve read about a system where A cards will be used for job A, B cards for job B, etc. those cards won’t be reformatted until that job is completed. I wondered if you did something similar. Thanks for sharing!

@@nope24601 That sounds like a pretty good system for certain workflows. In my workflow I just make sure data is copied and backed-up on drives and format media straight away. Another way I've used these numbers is when using dual card slots using the A cards for slot 1 and B cards for slot 2 backups etc. With cheaper cards and quick turnaround projects keeping media on cards until the project is completed is definitely a good backup option, and absolutely beats no backups! I've built my system around being scalable to projects big and small. Having wrangled on projects with the Alexa Mini LF for example, the drives are worth thousands of dollars each (and are usually rented out for shooting only) so you really need to be copying off data as you go! I always love hearing different systems people use - there's so many ways of working in this industry depending on what you're doing! :)

You don't need strength with SD cards you could run them over and they will still work there pretty strong as it is

If you’re willing to take that chance I’m not going to stop you. SD cards are cheap, the data on them is not. Of media used in professional environments SD cards are not great for durability, and I have dealt with many issues both physical and digitally with them. Reducing physical risk to the card absolutely makes sense in my mind, even more so when money is invested in the contents. Also, for the record I absolutely do not trust that an SD card would work after being run over.
