No they are not. They are an artificial selection. The person in video is referring generally about Ram cichlids that are found in South America.

when i first saw yours, i thought "oh, a biotope!" (rummynose tets, serpae tets, and ramirezi occur in the same part of the amazon). then i saw the molly, and payed attention to the plants and thought: "close enough"

Ha ha! I had the best of intentions... then a friend had extra mollies he needed to be rid of, And ... well then it's a downhill slide. I do have a true biotope going with my tannin series if you want to check it out. Botanicals, Apistos and checkerboard cichlids.

What are the plants you have in the tank?

These fish actually prefer 5-6.5 PH and soft water which is a little tricky in a home tank. That high acidity and low hardness makes them more difficult to keep than, say tetras. I felt like that was a little understated in this video. But these are one of my favorites too! Just keep their different water needs in mind for their sake!

nice video! I have several Golden Rams. I've never had any issues with them. I also have a lot of the German Blue Rams. have you done a video on those yet? people say they are hard to keep but I find it just the opposite with both species of rams.

+fincasters I do not know off hand. I just know our tap water runs 6.5 to 7ph. I'll take a sample in and get it tested and let you know.

+paulone65 These three have done very well. I'll be testing my water personal parameters and I'll post the numbers so you have something to go by. I do use Co2 in this tank to feed the plants along with a minimal amount of ferts. I believe that maintains a nice balance.

iv got a 35gallon tank with alot of hiding spaces, iv got 7 tiger barbs, would I be able to have a gold ram, electric blue and bolivian ram with them?

Sorry for the delayed answer I just found your question. I would think that you are probably pushing the vile load on that tank if you already have the seven tiger barbs and you want to add the additional cichlids. I would think maybe one or a pair but that's it. Might be a good excuse to upgrade to a larger tank!

Great video, just out of interest do have any tips for colouring up Golden Rams? Is there any specific food or other tips you'd recommend?

+pusc1f3r I really do recommend the extreme cichlid pellets. They have studied the ingredients in this food for more than 20 years, and the colors stay amazing.

Hi, I love your tank!! I am researching Rams. I have a 55 with 6 angelfish, and another 55 with neon tetras, Cory cats. Which tank do you think would be better for them .The tetra tank has lots of driftwood and presently more plants, although I am working on more plants and driftwood in the angel tank. It will be some time before I purchase the Rams. Thanks for your advice!!!

I'd put them with the Neons. Sounds like a perfect habitat. The angels might get mean as they get older and/or if they begin breeding.

Rummy nose tetras.

Has anyone had issues with Cherry Barbs or Albino Cherry Bards in a community tank with Female Betta's? I just had 2 female bettas dead in tank- trying to figure out if it were any of the barbs or possibly my German Blue Ram. The tank has been cycled for past 6 months, 30 gallon. Anyone have ever tried mixing these fish please reply I know that German Blue Rams are from Cichlid family but at the store they said this fish was peaceful, hmmm?

Bettas like basic (PH 7.5-8.5) and hard water like in lakes and puddles (hence their lung) and most amazon fish like acidic soft water from rain runoff and decaying wood. I'd say these two types of fish cannot live together. But Barbs will get feisty and bettas are a much slower carnivores. I'd guess your barbs teamed up on the betta if there was visible fin damage

This could be a completely irrelevant question, but have you, or will you do a video on the different colour strains of rams? I'm interested in them but have no idea which to choose. I would love to have some of each some day. Having only just found your channel I'm definitely going to be viewing on a regular basis 😁

Hey God bless. I know this was 5 years ago, but just in case. From what I know there are: German blue rams, bolivian rams, black rams, electric blue and Golden rams. If I’m missing one, someone correct me. But I love them! I have almost all, except the black ram.

Thanks, i learnt some new things from this video. Gold rams look so pretty, pets at home of all places have them (English equivalent of petsmart/petco). I was going to get 2 electric blues from my lfs, but i think ill get a male golden ram and a female electric blue :)

+Gober Pally I will try on the moshi. The Red Bulu is difficult to import right now. I've asked one of my suppliers -- who grows thousands of Cichlids in Florida to see if he can bring some to an upcoming show. I will also request the Moshi. that's a cool fish -- but it does get big....

+Gober Pally I don't know off hand -- but my supplier will -- if they are available at all. Some fish are currently restricted from export from Lake T. That may be one of them. Stay tuned.

I had 4 in a tank with German blue rams.... It was like WW3 in the tank all day long. I had to get rid of them.

Sounds like 2 males and a female. They are usually peaceful but they do have complicated mating habits. Mating time can also be influenced by water conditions.

+Mandar Loke Mander -- this one was recorded in stereo. I suspect you only have one speaker hooked up. Did you try on a phone or iPad by any chance? That should work.

This is NOT an easy fish to keep. They need high temps, VERY clean water and need an acidic, soft water (not very common) in order to survive.

It depends , if you bought imported ones they will be difficult to keep. Buy locally bred and trust me you'll have better chance keeping them alive. Their case is similar to keeping discus fish.

Stuart McDonald lol I keep my rams in 78f and they been alive for a year. I have 10 of them. Easy ass fish compared to discus.
