Keeping Alive an Ancient Art

Peguche, Ecuador, is a center of traditional weaving. Skills, dyes, and tools that the Otavaleño people developed more than 500 years ago are still in use here. The Artesanía el Gran Condor is a center where this traditional art is kept alive. We visited there in March 2013 and were able to film this brief demonstration of wool carding, spinning, dyeing, and weaving using a foot powered loom and the ancient back-strap loom.

During the Ecuador trip we had the chance to visit a traditional wool weaving workshop in Peguche. I cobbled together a 3-minute video about that, and it's now up on KZread.
